Jones is a great guy and fighter no doubt about that. But somewhere in the back of his head he knows that he is too big for this division and has a great advantage due to his size and reach. This is why there's a need for a 220 lbs division for fighters too big for lhw ( Bones, Griffin, Vera) and a fighters too small for the 265 lbs division ( Velasquez, Dos Santos, Country etc............

Why should Bones move up in weight? I read comments saying " well he is bigger and stronger than these guys he needs to move up! " Machida has never been submitted. Machida fought Randy Couture who we all can agree is a strong fighter. Machida threw Randy around like a rag doll. Once Bones got his hands on Machida he made him his bitch. Machida fought like a warrior, but the truth is he didnt drag Jones into deep water. He tagged him a few times, and wobbled him a bit. Jone's leg kicks were more effective you could see it on Lyoto's face. It was striking on Jones part that led to Machida getting choked out. specially after that hook he managed before the take down....vicious elbow that leads to beginning of the end...Superman punch drops him...wraps his long tentacles around his neck and finally drops him like rag doll..

@msb314 i doubt it. he looked out of it when the ref got him up and when he put machida back in the clinch with jones. the way he switches and tries to find his rhythm by hoppin to shake it off standing up. i guess it's just the way i see it. can't say that elbow wasn't just for a cut; had some serious force as all elbow shots by jones.

i wasnt worried for jon jones for one second in this fight..lyoto may have landed maybe 3 effective strikes, the rest were little to no effect on jones they were just quick hits...jones landed a simple counter punch (which lyoto was the "master" of) and sent lyoto on his face before putting the "dragon" to sleep....the only thing lyoto had over jones was his speed and that is because of his karate background

@gurvinderdhinsa im not sure if you only follow the LHW division, but there are fighters in ALL divsions that could/should fight in higher or lower divisions...if you look at the lightweight divisions there are fighters that should be fighting welterweight same for middle weights who should fight LHW...its the same for all weight classes...height and weight have nothing to do with weight class or else all of UFC would have to be re-formated for such variations

EVERY fighter in the ufc is much bigger and heavier than the weight class they fight in. GSP weight over 190 and cuts to 170 for welter weight. Rampage Jackson was 250 before he cut down to 205 to fight rashad. Anthony Johnson is 6'2" and weighs over 200 pounds yet he cuts to 170 and fights guys that are 5'9". Give Jones his credit. He is smart, talented and extremely young.
@gurvinderdhinsa a couple i can think of is Paul Taylor, Sam Stout, Shane Roller, Ben Henderson could fight at welterweight simply because of body type...almost every fighter in the UFC will come along some one bigger than them, randy couture for example had to DROP weight classes becauses he weighed in as a heavy weight but the the men he fought were GIANTS compared to Randy..if you make the weight you can fight in any class you desire

Jones is just as smart as silva and he is bigger and younger so if they fought at a catch weight.... Maybe 195 Jones would still have the advantage.

@Werdxp nope. had my eyes on the fight the whole time(who didn't really). when bones took the dragon down, he rocked him with that elbow. as soon as the ref stood machida up for inspection, i knew it was over. that's why it was so easy for jones to connect. as for his stand up, did it really look that impressive against machida? how many spinning back moves did he miss that are now redundant and pretty much predictable? i've noticed it since the rampage fight.

Obviously if he didn't have his reach his stand up game would be much less potent but this is a sport. His physical attributes are something his opponents should figure out and get around.

Jones is a great guy and fighter no doubt about that. But somewhere in the back of his head he knows that he is too big for this division and has a great advantage due to his size and reach. This is why there's a need for a 220 lbs division for fighters too big for lhw ( Bones, Griffin, Vera) and a fighters too small for the 265 lbs division ( Velasquez, Dos Santos, Country etc............

Machida fought like a warrior, but the truth is he didnt drag Jones into deep water. He tagged him a few times, and wobbled him a bit. Jone's leg kicks were more effective you could see it on Lyoto's face. EVERY fighter in the ufc is much bigger and heavier than the weight class they fight in. GSP weight over 190 and cuts to 170 for welter weight. Rampage Jackson was 250 before he cut down to 205 to fight rashad. Anthony Johnson is 6'2" and weighs over 200 pounds yet he cuts to 170 and fights guys that are 5'9". Give Jones his credit. @gurvinderdhinsa a couple i can think of is Paul Taylor, Sam Stout, Shane Roller, Ben Henderson could fight at welterweight simply because of body type...almost every fighter in the UFC will come along some one bigger than them, randy couture for example had to DROP weight classes becauses he weighed in as a heavy weight but the the men he fought were GIANTS compared to Randy..if you make the weight you can fight in any class you desire

Shogun was an easy win, rampage put up good defense effort that was able to defend well against jones wrestling/grappling. Now machida first person to land real shots and even make jones lose a round. If rashad beats davis would make the perfect movie build for rivalry lol, just hope he puts together a perfect gameplan, anything short and won't be competitive.

Dudes, At the end of the 1st round i saw a John Jones that i never saw before hes face was like "wow, how ima beat this dude?" Machida kept presure on Jones all the time, impressive counter attacks and punches make me believe on one word to Jones : "LUCKY".

@STONRUNNIT its not just about getting hit dude. machida not only oustruck jone, but he also made him very uncomfortable fighting on his feet. if he jones would of keeped fighting on his feet, he new that their was a possibility that he could get finished, which is why he took him down. the funny thing is that as soon as jones took him down i knew the fight was over. jones is too big. when they were on the ground it looked kike a father beating his 10 yr old son. he needs to move hw.

@Werdxp nope. had my eyes on the fight the whole time(who didn't really). when bones took the dragon down, he rocked him with that elbow. as soon as the ref stood machida up for inspection, i knew it was over. that's why it was so easy for jones to connect. as for his stand up, did it really look that impressive against machida? how many spinning back moves did he miss that are now redundant and pretty much predictable? i've noticed it since the rampage fight.

Obviously if he didn't have his reach his stand up game would be much less potent but this is a sport. His physical attributes are something his opponents should figure out and get around.

And training with the likes of both nog and anderson.s and junior dos santos will give you an edge no matter who you face in that octagon. With that being said i knew Jones would have to mix it up to win this. But sure Jones has this to go by if he intends to evolve as a fighter no doubt
