Well from mixer to sub then to speaker.. takes all the low end out of the speakers so that you have more power to play louder. I don't recommend doing it the other way. It may lead to less favorable results. Its better to go through the sub first and daisy chain from the sub/subs to other speakers
You can get a rca to xlr chord converter. Or any DJ shop can make you one if you can't find one. I did a convert on the back of my DJ case to xlr .. so I will always have a hard hookup directly to the case instead of worring with conversion chords. They can do that as well if you have one near you that works on DJ equipment.
the eon series dosent have the crown amp in it. thats the prx. its also the only diffrence between the eon and prx sub is that the eon has a jbl amp in it and the prx has the crown. i was going to get the prx but then after the place i bought it at told me that, i decided to get this one because it was just a cheaper amp in it. they both sound exactly the same though.
hmm yea your right. i looked it on the site and the only difference im really seeing is that the prx has more in/outputs on it. i paid $200 less just for that? wow.
As far as inputs go, All I ever use is XLR and 1/4 for all my stuff. 1/4 is only used for guitars and wirless mics. The rest are xlr hook ups. Works great for me. The PRX you talk about. Whats the weight comparison between the two? I know the JBLs are 65 lbs. That was a big seller for me.
I realized that after my first post. I took both the EON and PRX and put them side by side and listened to them. The PRX sounds a little more smooth and clean. It can be EQ'd out though. What threw me off was that the EON didn't have Crown labeled anywhere on it. But it's all under Harman so it's pretty much all the same.
I want to ask if you knew what the in and out switch does. Also the hpf and thru switch Ive read the manuel but it doesnt make sense to me. Thanks Big I
The HPF... which is the High Pass mode... cuts ALL low frequencies from your top cabs or main speakers leaving only the low end to be used with the sub... the other mode allows the lows through the main sub to your main speaker which will also play the low ends. I recommend though... if you want to go LOUD... use the HPF which will cut out the lows on your main speakers to project for LARGER crowds or BIGGER venues.
Cool I get it thanks man. That is the way I wanna go then is with the hpf to cut the low outta my top cabinet. Do you know what the in and out switch does? Thanks again Big I.
oh.. thats to select the different inputs levels to best suit the bass. Just like your country, classic, rock settings on most stock radios.. one way will give you a deeper richer bass the other (enhanced) the other is normal pass thru bass
Yes the caster wheels were added by me. You don't really need them because the sub is really light. I installed them so I can easily go through narrow doors instead of carrying them through. Lowe's carrys these type wheels. It has the locks built in. Used a small self-tapping screw to secure the wheels. They were only 3 dollars or so for each caster wheel. It's also important that you get the swivel type wheel. Thanks for watching.
I have a pair of these i just bought but i have to plug in both A and B Inputs so that i can get the full sound, if I plug in just 1 input it only puts out half the power,? am i hooking it up wrong? where should i have my settings? or do you think its cause my mixer doesn't have XLR only RCA?
you may need to get an adaptor from RCA to XLR. Then your XLR to your XLR to the sub. I run 2.. and only require the one speaker side A or B to run it. Only when I run only one sub (stereo) will I use both A and B hookups. Check the manual for the proper recommended hookups. I know JBL is good by doing diagrams by showing it. I'll look for mine if you can't find yours. I believe you can also go from RCA to 1/4 stereo cable for hookups too. I'll look at mine closely tomorrow and let you know.
I am having the same as mikayla im going outta my mixer with rca too. I do have a 1/4" to xlr but I need to get the cables. Did you get a chance to check your out?
it you look closely on the video.. it has a 1/4 input.. or you can simply run the 1/4 inch to xrl cable to the xrl input. Either way should work great. I prefer using XLR though... you can use Either or.. just keep in mine the XLR is more secure way of connecting your lines of chord .... ie speakers or guitars.
Okay so the best bet is going 1/4" output from my mixer to the xlr input on my sub then xlr output to xlr input on top cabinet. I think that what your saying correct?
So its easy to carry up the stairs if you absolutely have to. Check out my other 2 vids that I did on this sub. I also do a preview of how it sounds. Thanks for commenting.
again, the casters were added by me. You can get those at lowes for a few bucks each. The best part of this sub it only was as much as a JBL Eon 15" speaker. Its only 65 pounds.
Does every subwoofer have a XLR input?
DJBRISK1 1 year ago
@DJBRISK1
Majority of the powered subwoofers have xlr or xlr and 1/4".
XLR/mic cables are suppose to be standard.
DJCD01 1 year ago
Can you do it the other way?
For example, Mixer to speaker, and then speaker to subwoofer.

JBL and JBL reps at NAMM must be uninformed. Everywhere I read, even in the manual you get, says a Class-D Digital Crown Amplifier.

@InuYashaFreak64 I'm looking at the brochure right here. It specifically says the EON 500 series has the Crown amplifiers in it.

Thats what I would do if your top cabs only have xlr inputs... I prefer using xlrs. The new JBL Eon line has 1/4, xlrs, and speaker on inputs.
