  • Bad ass rifle, I have one myself. I have always wanted to turn it into a sniper and have done tons of research on the mounts, I have found out that those mounts are unreliable, even if you cant see the mount coming loose, I'm certain it's not holding "zero" no way. There is only 1 way to do it right, Troy M14 Modular Chassis System. Look it up on YT.

  • There's a story to the lack of bayonet lugs on the M1A. Not American here, but from what I understand, Springfield Armory removed them in accordance with Assault Weapons Ban and left them off after it expired. Wikipedia describes it in the M1A entry under "Differences... M1A and M14".

  • 10 rounds is still enough firepower to disrupt a calm area (if hunting) or disrupt the enemy (if fighting in a resistance force).

  • What does steel ammo casing vs bronze / copper casing do to your AK-47 or Springfield M1A 308 rifle?

  • @SequelFinalNight I wouldn't shoot steel casing ammo through my M1A, my theory is it was designed to shoot brass, AK's seem to do fine with steel casings, that's all I use for them.

  • @SequelFinalNight the steel casing is not the problem, its the steel jacket bullets that are so hard to get out of the bore.No bore solvent will cut steel jacket material. You have to use JB bore compound.Been there done that,to many damn times.

  • @SequelFinalNight Its not "bronze / copper"

Its a little thing called brass.

  • @2142Unknown They use brass - basically because little pieces of it go down the barrel & clog the barrel - In general guns aren't made for the steal matterial cloging the barrel. I believe the AK is a more loosely made barrel w/ less twist (not a precision rifle its an assualt rifle), so steal matterials floating down the barrel dont effect it as much.

  • @SequelFinalNight It has nothing to do with the components of the shell going down the barrel... The only difference is that steel is mainly russian made ammo, which is low quality, and laquer-coated, which can gum up your action after a bit of shooting.

  • @2142Unknown I shoot steel cased ammo in my M1A and it's never failed on it once. Most Russian steel cased ammo is polymer coated rather then being laquer coated today.

  • @SequelFinalNight Clog the barrel? What in the world are you talking about?

  • I have the same rifle you do,don't know where you bought yours but mine came with the bayonet lug as well as a 20 rounds magazine...

  • What kind of groups do you get, and what model is it? Standard? National Match? Would you buy that scope mount again, or get another one? I'm thinking about buying one and I want to make sure I get the right stuff the first time.

  • @bigwillyalex I will be taking it out again tomorrow, I will send you a video posting the results and answers to your questions.

  • @aaron0313 Thanx man!

  • @bigwillyalex its not like your gonna get like same hole groups at 250 yards but if your competent with it this thing will drive nails where ever you aimt it I love mine dont have a scope or any optics on it yet not sure if I want to but at a hundred yards just open sights I can shoot about a 2-3 inch group its good enough for whatever you need with it. I have the standard full length version

  • @gunsmith93 Thanx I was just really torn with the whole prices ranges that the m1a has and i don't have that much money, so I'll probably go with the standard, thanx again

  • @bigwillyalex Not a problem I paid about 1500 for mine but its a great rifle for whatever you want to do with it ammo isnt very cheap but its fun to shoot

  • Go 308 so you can shot 7.62

You can't go the other way to much pressure,

  • I have a Basset Machine with a single point of attachment and have had no problems with it. I have even personaly talked to the owner/designer of the Basset scope mount. I am quite impressed with it so far.

  • I used the incentive to buy (5) of at 35.00 a piece vice the later 54.00.

  • @Txman1996 5 Mags that is.

  • @Txman1996 Thanks for all the info!

  • who cares about the bayonet when you can kill up to 1000 meters.

  • Browning rifles historically did not come equipped for a bayonet. thats why the KBAR knife came out. It is the accessory (Knife) for the Browning Automatic Rifle, otherwise known as the KBAR!

  • @phillip81872 kabars were not made for BAR's and they are not called kbars they are called ka-bars because a man sent a letter to the factory saying that he killed a bear with it and it saved his life. Ka-bar/kill a bear. Go to kabardotcomslashabout and scroll down

  • @The123chum i didn't mean to imply that the knife was invented for the marines. However, if you are a Marine, like me, you know that the browning automatic rifle did not have a bayonet attachment. Therefore the Marines were issued a knife, not a bayonet. The knife of choice was the KABAR, which the Marines associated the name with K-BAR or as Marines call it, the Knife for the Browning Automatic Rifle. Thats a little Marine Corps history for you....

  • @phillip81872 Thats awesome! I had no idea

  • @phillip81872 Wrong! Did you come up with that all by yourself? First off it is spelt KA BAR not kbar and it became the standard issue combat knife for the USMC in 1942 it's development had nothing to do with the browning automatic rifle (bar)!

  • @25jlive Go to ka bar history the knives are made in Oleans New york by cutco! They came up with the name ka bar because of a letter sent from a fur trapper praising the company for there knives because he killed a wounded bear with one! He spelled killed a bear K A BAR!!!

  • @phillip81872 KA-BARs aren't bayonets

  • The lack of a bayonet lug and the ten round mag are to make the gun compliant in ban states. Since I live in one, that's a plus one! Besides...if you ever need a bayonet on an M1a, ur already dead.

  • @IIDASHII this rifle was designed for military use. This was before gun compliance was a problem in certain states. The lack of modifications may keep the rifle in compliance with your state, but as designed originally, there never was a bayonet attachment

  • Do not fire 180 grain cartridges through a standard m1a rifle , it can cause battering of the op rod , once in a while it wont hurt but a steady diet can damage it . Sadlak sells a grooved national match piston for this purpose which bleeds off more gas than the standard piston . I believe they come titanium nitrate coated as well.

  • @Kc893s Good to know, thanks.

  • Do you think that M1A would have any trouble with a steady diet of 180 grain rounds?

  • @ekimtoor Should be fine, I do believe that 180 grain rounds are supplied to the US Military.

  • @aaron0313 sounds like you spend a lot of money on the m1a mount.... what would you think of a whole replacement chassis? like the "Troy M14 S.A.S.S. Sniper System" (google). I've been thinking about it.

  • @600trillion The chassis is awesome and much more convenient.

  • good video very professional. 5/5

  • I saw a video yesterady of a guy who has a 25 rd mag on an m1a. Not SF though..

  • Its not listed on their site, but they do make a flash hidder with a bayonet lug. I'm fairly sure you can buy one from midway usa.

  • @misoharny Thanks, I just felt it should have came on the rifle straight from the factory.

  • @aaron0313 lol yeah man they are battle rifles you can't baby the bolt just have to let it slam home, and every once in a while it likes a good love smack.

  • Bought my norinco m14 for $500 bucks. Best money ever spent. Gun works flawless.

  • @HotButtMud

You lucky Canuck bastard, I want one of those so bad, but our buttfuck of a Clinton banned Norinco firearms from import in 1993. The funny thing is, the Norinco M14s are better than Springfield M1As

  • @AGeekWithAShotgun go to the cabelas website and type in m1a you can pick one up for about 2 grand

  • @IgotGreens101

    That is absurdly expensive.

  • @AGeekWithAShotgun haha yep i would love to have one but year i could buy about 4 other guns for that price.

  • @IgotGreens101

Check out Bud's gun shop, standard M1A's for around 1300, loadeds for 1500 and so on. They're a large investment but once you own one you know you spent the money wisely on that firearm.

  • @AGeekWithAShotgun Seen them for $1,400 new at gunshop. Seen for far less used.

Can find M1 Garand for $500 if you pass a civilian marksmanship program even get it mailed directly to your home... no paperwork or wait time either.

    I have an M1A love it ;)

  • @SoCalTactical

Still, it pisses me off that the Canadians can get a BETTER M14 (Norinco M14 > Springfield M1A) for around $600 flat

  • @AGeekWithAShotgun Yeah it's bullshit. It's policies that drive the price so damned much.

  • @AGeekWithAShotgun What makes the Norinco's better?

  • @MedicPat

    Two words.

Forged. Receiver. Everything else is milspec

  • Man I wanna buy one of these as my next gun but it's so damn expensive.

  • what model scope did you use?

  • @PaulsZakk In the video it has a Leupold Rifleman 3-9x40.

  • I love my m1a. its sitting on a troy mcs chassis. mounting accesories and optic is so much easier. i use magazines from checkmate industries. thats the contractor that is currently supplying the us military.

  • God I really want me an M1A. Good video man. A guy is selling a Norinco M1A for $950, is that a decent price? I dont have alot of money so I figured an M1A for under $100 is a good deal? I am still learning about it. Btw that bipod looks HUGE! Or is it just me?

  • @mixflip I only have experience with Springfield Armory versions of the M1A, I don't know anything about Norinco, sorry. The bi-pod is huge, but very tough which is what I wanted.

  • You may want to look at Bassett. I've got hundreds of rounds through my scout with no scope/mount movement. The scope/mount even holds zero when I reinstall after cleaning.

  • @smpd357sig Thanks for the info!

  • Nice rifle, ya gotta get it out a little farther and stretch it's legs a bit

  • @fairman308 Yes, I agree, hopefully soon!

  • Thats a nice setup man! Love the M1A rifles. I really like the scope mount you have on there too.

  • i need one of those in my life lol

  • Great Video! Just the kind of information I like;) Sadlak or McCann's scope mounts have been recommended to me. Pricey, but with 5 recoil pulses per shot, your mount gets the $hit kicked out of it. Keep us updated on how yours holds up over time. Again, thanks for the info - Wish I was out there shooting with you!

  • ive always wanted to shoot one they seem to be the shit

  • how much did you pay for you 20rd mag.

  • i like how you put negative first then positive.
