  • In response to milkandtea's comments -- we feel confident in what we're doing. Our teachers who are from Ghana have been teaching in the U.S. for over 40 years. We have their approval -- they encourage us to enjoy their music, dance and song. The music and dance of Ghana is a rich tradition that can benefit humanity.

  • Cultural appropriation: helping oneself to the cool bits of someone elses culture. When there is a power imbalance between ones own culture and that other culture, the appropriation is problematic.

  • Cultural appropriation: when a member of a group in authority uses that authority to tell or use stories, icons, myths, art, etc. that belong to a group which does not have the power or authority to tell its own stories etc.; especially in inaccurate, insulting or self-serving ways, and especially without giving attribution or context.

  • This is not right.

    Cultural appropriation- read up on it, learn what it is.

    Some definitions (this is only the start):

    Cultural appropriation: taking something that is not your own (culturally), and pretending to make it your own while at the same time denying its source.
