Forrest is not the original composer. The tune was born in a jam session in 1940. Here, Duke Ellington's alto saxophonist Johnny Hodges played the riff. In 1945, Ellington composed his "Deep South Suite", and one of the movements was this blues called "Happy-Go-Lucky Local". At that time, Forrest was part of Ellington's band, and some years later he released this version of the blues as "Night Train", and it became a succesful R&B single
