  • The Spitfire Merlin does indeed sound fine. But IMO its trumped by the Centaurus of the Sea Fury which also gives an even better display too.

  • What is the music? It sounds like a British version of Wagner's 'Meisternsänger von Nürnberg'. Is it something by Edward Elgar?

  • i person who viewed is german................

  • awsome peace of film

  • That sound!! the salvation of this Country England and the World ,ultimately! please think about what I have just said before replying!?A lot depended on these pilots and this plane before the US got involved!!!

  • Is that a IX??????

  • V12 Merlin vs Background music, , , no contest. There has never been a finer sound than that of a V12 Merlin running at full chat growling across a sky (blue of course).

  • I quite agree! - buy the DVD, switch to the location soundtrack and... enjoy!!

  • Thanks IainP What DVD would this be and where to buy??

  • Details are in the video description on the top right of this page including the PlanesTV website.

If its Spitfires you like do a search for a DVD product called 'Spitfire Airshow'.

    Cheers

    Iain

  • @mrspenn1611 The DB60* series sound much better =) DB 605 AS(M) is maybe the best =)

  • Nice video

  • get rid of the damn music lol!!

  • Turn the bloody music off !!!!!!!

  • An E-Type Jaguar looks & sounds like the most stunning piece of design ever.........Then you see & hear a Spitfire & realise that NOTHING can compare to it for sheer beauty, purity of line & sense of purpose. Sublime machine!

  • a very unforgettable sound, nice vid

  • Great video but , kill the music !

  • Beautiful

  • Dump the music. That aircraft demands to be heard! ;)

  • best plane ever my fav, lovely sound so gracefull yet terrifying

  • I Went to Biggin hill in 2007 and it was Great, Very hot though, but it thrilled me with amazement brought by seeing the delightful Oasis Hong Kong 747-400 flowing across the sky, the Role Demonstration which Ended with a Big Bang, and the glorious Famous Aerobatic Display Team the Red Arrows. Overall this was an Amazing Airshow!!!!!! :)

  • forgive my stupidness but who flies these types of planes now for display's?

is it professional stunt pilots or pilots from the RAF?

  • Excellent video featuring the "Spirit of Kent" Spitfire. Who was the pilot? I have posted a video response, showing the "Spirit of Kent" being displayed by Dan Griffith at Manston on 14th September 2008. The music heard in the video was broadcast over the PA system, although the evocative song of the Merlin can still be heard. I trust that you will enjoy the video!

  • Awsome vid...gotta love that merlin

  • hi, very good vid but I have to agree about the music!

  • Brilliant video but like so often its wrecked by the music. The music we want is the sound of the Merlin.

  • Thanks Acts4v12.

I hear what you're saying about the Merlin. The DVD (like all of our new releases) features a non-narration + non-music soundtrack for diehards like you and me ;)

  • whats this song called?

  • gotta agree with third degree witch, a rolls royce v12 merlin is music within itself,

  • why oh why ruin it with the poxy music :(

  • Great vid, thanks.

  • Great viedo...right on DazDaMan... just a thing of beauty in flight..thank you RJ Mitchell...wonderful sound ! Talley Ho !!!! TCUNC76

  • nice video but the music could be better

  • Spitfire Prelude and Fugue. How could it be better?!

  • Agreed, music is fantastic!! As is the sound of that engine! Looking forward to Biggin 2008!
