Ray Charles was a musical genius. The man could sing country, blues, jazz and he did it all so well. He put his touch on this song and made it a so soulful. He did his mother so proud. He made it on his own terms and was not a burden to anyone. I believe when he got to the afterlife his mother hugged him and told him well done son. You made your mother so proud.
Ray Charles was a genius...!! The way he took Johnny's song and reworked the whole tempo and arrangement was nothing short of amazing! That funky blues & jazz tempo just sends this number to a whole 'nother planet, baby...!! I had a friend who was secretary to Tom Dowd(Ray's Atlantic engineer). She said Ray called looking for Tom one day, he was out so she had to take a message. She told me that she told Ray, "You don't have to tell me who this is, I would know that voice anywhere!" Ray laughed!
i almost don't like listening to ray because he is so head and shoulders better, more talented, and more soulful than anyone before or since that he makes everyone else sound like the partridge family
Its this simple that Ray charles takes one of the greatest ever country songs from arguably the greatest country singer......and destroys the original with this unbelievable cover which is what this pure genius did every time he got behind a piano.....Ray Charles...............R.I.P

This song caught my attention on Ray Charles' America. Listened to the original by Johnny Cash...Listen, Ray killed this song! I just keep listening to it over and over. His musicianship is crazy.
I just watched Ray Charles' America and had never heard this version pf "Ring Of Fire" and I had just played Johnny's version yesterday and no disrespect, but this song BELONGS 2 HIM...NOW!!! Brother Ray owned it...
Hot damn! no way! That was awesome!

Such a great cover! I like this better than the Cash one I do admit, but I have heard the latter about 1,000 times more as well.

I'm surprised the world didn't implode with two of the biggest legends on stage together!

You listen to Johnny's original recording and think, "How did Ray come up with THAT arrangement?" Genius, indeed.
