I can only say hendrix's influence on rock guitar changed the technical aspect of the way people played the guitar in rock. plainly different tone that the rock scene had not seen, unless if you seen Buddy Guy in the time before hendrix hit the scene. All the Hendrix detractors on YouTube miss the point. Yes, there are undoubtedly more technically proficient players around, but do they produce anything memorable? No, they don't. Hendrix had imagination, musicality and enough technical know how to produce beautiful music which sounds as fresh today, 40 years on, as it did back then. His ability as a composer is vastly underrated, and so much of what I hear contemporary 'virtuoso' players churning out is forgettable, and will remain forgotten.
The thing some people don't realize is that Hendrix contributed so much to all modern music. Back then, the guitar was almost completely uncharted territory for musicians. Guess who explored it? Jimi Hendrix. Sure, there are these "shredders" these days who could supposedly "outplay" him. You know why? Because we're living a completely new world of music. We're taught how to play now. Hendrix was doing the guitar freak thing before any of the others were, he was the first one to do those kinds of tricks with guitar on stage, he was the first one to incorporate fast, technical(for the time) rock guitar music into mainstream music! Other musicians seen this and then capitalized on it by taking it that one step further and so on! For example, Blackmore saw Hendrix, Yngwie saw Hendrix and Blackmore and so on! And thats how you rationalize!

I can only say hendrix's influence on rock guitar changed the technical aspect of the way people played the guitar in rock. plainly different tone that the rock scene had not seen, unless if you seen Buddy Guy in the time before hendrix hit the scene. Buddy Guy played like Jimi before Jimi played like Jimi.

All the Hendrix detractors on YouTube miss the point. Yes, there are undoubtedly more technically proficient players around, but do they produce anything memorable? No, they don't. Hendrix had imagination, musicality and enough technical know how to produce beautiful music which sounds as fresh today, 40 years on, as it did back then. His ability as a composer is vastly underrated, and so much of what I hear contemporary 'virtuoso' players churning out is forgettable, and will remain forgotten.

The thing some people don't realize is that Hendrix contributed so much to all modern music. Back then, the guitar was almost completely uncharted territory for musicians. Guess who explored it? Jimi Hendrix. Sure, there are these "shredders" these days who could supposedly "outplay" him. You know why? Because we're living a completely new world of music. We're taught how to play now. Not much uncharted territory left, to be honest. Seriously, its all about perspective. Hendrix was amazing.

Hendrix was doing the guitar freak thing before any of the others were, he was the first one to do those kinds of tricks with guitar on stage, he was the first one to incorporate fast, technical(for the time) rock guitar music into mainstream music! Other musicians seen this and then capitalized on it by taking it that one step further and so on! For example, Blackmore saw Hendrix, Yngwie saw Hendrix and Blackmore and so on! And thats how you rationalize!
