1 viewer got Death instead of the Death Necklace. Speaking of which, wouldn't it be cool if you could take the Death Necklace to the princess as Jewelry? You know, like when a guy gets his girl a necklace... then the princess gets cursed and the king has you executed! That would be a neat multiple endings kind of... ending...
@HCBailly Do you happen to play Final Fantasy Dissidia? Cause the title of this video is one of the quote Kefka says when he uses a fire attack in that game. I might be wrong about the reference though.
Oh another thing. The first time I entered Rocky Mountain Cave, I could've sworn that I encountered Magidrakees on the first floor. But from that day on I never noticed them appearing in caves so it was probably just a confused memory, since they appear with similar monsters outside caves.
Interesting how Skeletons can appear in several domains that span a VERY large range of absolute difficulty. Sometimes they appear with Ghosts and Magicians and sometimes they're found alongside Warlocks and even Wolves (hope this isn't a spoiler!)
Other than that, during this part of the game the monsters just gradually increase in difficulty from one to the next. From Scorpions to Druins to Drolls on the non-magic side and from Magidrakees to Poltergeists to Warlocks on the magic side.
HC, did this game ever get into your head with the music? I remember going to sleep as a kid thinking about the battle music and what not... Soooooo repetitive!
i remember being ambushed by warlock. Sleep-Hurt-Hurt-Hurt.....
I hate those bastards, but there is monster called MagiWyvern or something that also have Sleep. A few times he put me to sleep for 5-7 turns and almost never missed with this spell. I don't know if that monster was designed that way or was very unlucky SO MANY TIMES.
@DukeDonkey Step 3 - After you have consumed your sandwich and finished watching Let's Play Dragon Warrior by HCBailly, masturbate to the thought of you experiencing the first 2 steps.
Hey HCBailly, have you ever played the classic Dragon Warrior Monster games for the gameboy color? That's what introduced me to the series, and I still love the monster games to this day, though not so much the new one.
@DarknessWolf19 Most of them were made with relatively tiny crews, which meant less play testing and debugging. I forget the general number involved, but it was nowhere near the enormous undertakings they are today. Find a given indie team and it's probably about like that. A dozen people, maybe?
I didn't look through all the comments, but did anyone talk about your title for the video? Of course FF6 is my favorite FF. "Run! Run! Or you'll be well done!"
I still think this is going to be his shortest LP series. It's been a while since I've played, but I still feel like he's 1/4 of the way into the game at least. Off-screening the actual level-grinding should keep it under 20. Let's see what happens!
Fighter's Ring effect isn't a bug, really. The only intention that we know of is to change that one piece of dialogue. But you knew that, I just wanted say it wasn't a bug.
Only HCBailly can make an old classic like Dragon Warrior interesting to watch. Unfortunately this is the only DW game I've ever played. I remember DW2 being released; but it was too expensive at the time, so I got 'Little Ninja Brothers' instead.
That's the trouble about old video games...as well as some new ones...when you are trying to get out of an area because you are nearly dead, the encounter rate increases dramatically...and the enemies you encounter the most are the hard ones...
I have found both the necklace and the belt. Don't use them but it is kinda funny what they say happens to you. To get the items off you have to talk to the old man in the first town.
What an encounter rate, damn..so many (pleasant?) memories of desperate escapes from early game caves in Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy..the Rocky Mountain cave isn't nearly as bad as, say, the Ice Cave or a later dungeon in this game, but as HC says, you really don't want to get killed as you have no way of saving gold elsewhere to avoid losing half of everything you have as you can in later DW games.
In FF and this game..Exit spell || DW equivalent = Oh thank you God.
Hmm, is the Death Necklace called the Cursed Belt in this version? Or does the Cursed Belt show up elsewhere? It's been a couple months since I played through DW 1.
@ZidaneTribal93 Old English is actually closer to Norwegian than German. The form of English used in Dragon Quest/Warrior is Early Modern English, which was used during Shakespeare's time. I suppose it was based off of German grammar-wise because both languages are part of the same language group (Germanic), but I'm not entirely sure.
When I watched the part where you were running, I just couldn't help myself and thought back to the Ice Cave blooper reel where you almost got a game over and said "JESUS CHRIST, RUN!"
By the way, I'm going back and watching that for fun. :D
@Valis77 Perhaps I oversimplified my explanation. Even though this area gives more experience with the Skeletons around, it's a less efficient area to level-grind, partially due to the lack of the free healing guy at Tantegel. The travel time and downtime is also greater, further reducing its efficiency.
Actually I've found the Rocky Cave to be a quite efficient place to level, or at least to get to 9 or 10. The Herb you find in level one respawns, so what I usually do is get six of those then go through both floors about five times. Even found the Death Necklace once!
Wow HC, you're on a roll man. LP-ing Final Fantasy 8 as well as DQ4, not that I don't appreciate it just don't overdo yourself. I can imagine this things can soak up a lot of time.
I'm currently playing the GBC version, and I'm in Garin's Tomb @ level 10-11. That is VERY underleveled, and the game's telling me so. Time to go grind on enemies than can't put me to sleep.
