People are always so critical of the film, but you know what? You're lucky to even have the film. :) In some ways it's a work of art, in other ways a box-office failure, in some ways true to the book, in others it seems to ignore the book, that makes it unique, and it has a cult following regardless.
Probably the best Adlib music ever. However, being one of the (very) few games that had native support for the ill-fated Adlib 2000 card I'd really like to hear that.
@2TheDeath There is an app called dosbox for Linux that might do the job. For Windows, if it doesn't work directly you could try some emulator like VirtualBox
I love this game so much, just found 4 day's ago and completed it to day it just drags you in, if the music hadden been like that i dont think it would have been tha same :-)
Back in the 90's games, like this, were "organic" in nature, with 'rounded corners'. Today we have "mechanical" games, with 'sharp edges'. Much less fun!
This game is one of the best. I played it at 10years ago atAMIGA and even now I would like to play it ago. Man I still have that amiga, and those FDDs, so I will play it in next week. Boo yaa
Playing Dune makes me go insane..Even though its on a rail..so to speak..i swear the characters and game has a mind of its own. Like a puppet you dont trust.
I swear this game has a dark secret in its creation. it creeps me out.
Ahh brings back memories. The music made this game really atmospheric. You can find these songs performed (non-MIDI) by Exxos with the titles "Cryogenia" and "Spice Opera".
i like the unchanged face(paul character), its actually cuter then Kyle. They should have gone with this picture all along, i can see why they used the other one, but this guy is much cuter. He's also a bit younger looking as well.
This game was simply amazing!, i remember being completely captivated by the art and story and subtle details (like the ding noise in the music when a drip hits the water). I somehow managed to finish it all first go... i was excited to get dune 2 later but was very dissapointed the adventure story component had been removed and hardly played it.
Too bad the video doesn't show the strategy aspect of the game, including the terraforming. I played this awesome game for the first time in 2004 or 2005 and finished it. And loved it. It doesn't have the depth of today's strategies but still, it's mixed with a sort of adventure, very nice.
I solved it plenty of times. You have to find Chani at one of you captured seiches. When you have enough troops and atomics you can win the game. You should only plant when the spice in that area is about gone.
Dune might be the best game ever (ok, not as good as Xcom, but one hell of a game anyway). Any way, some people play Betrayal at Krondor over and over again, some play Dungeon Master, but I play Dune over at least once a year (it's not that long actually, last time I magically lost Chani, so couldn't finish it :-)
BTW, was this video from early demo (at least that's how I understood the description) since there's no Lachlan?
I dunno, the demo was dated to October 1993, so it's possibly a very late demo. At least, Paul Atreides doesn't look like MacLachlan anymore (or yet).
I got the CD-version, and it has his face. It might be that no demo have it, due to some royalty issue, as demos are distributed for free. Then again, it wouldn't be the first time someone's appearence has been taken of in some versions of a game.
@Retardretroguy I agree with you here. The only reason this game is not as well remembered as Dune II: Battle for Arrakis is because Dune II ushered in the new era/genre of Real Time Strategy games.
Aha ( Dont know any other way to ''introduce'' my comment :) )
This game is very interesting, i almost completed it but in the end all the spice ran out, all the areas that had been convered with alot of spice had been used already and the emperor demanded more and more, i lost thanks to his increasing demands, and then that bearded man that wanted to grow plants on the surface ( i cant remember the name) he made spice even less freuqent i think.
Dune I was my fav game. Btw, if this is the PC game, can you tell me where I can download it as an abandonware(that HAS sound).

A great game overshadowed by its predecessor, Dune II: Battle for Arrakis.

Interesting to see the new faces.
Also the music can't hold a candle to the amiga version. :(

Jesus. What happened to Sting's face? Especially his super-stiff jaw.

just so you know, there were two versions. One for pc and one Amiga version (if I remember correctly). This explains the different graphics

Check out Exxos - Dune Spice Opera. The same music as the game, but performed by a real band!

Have you read the book? Kyle "Showgirls" Maclachen was a total miscast.

I wonder if Kyle MacLachlan has seen Dune the game, or played it? :)

Hmm, all the characters aside from paul look different from the movie, but here it seems that he originally had a very different design as well?
I wouldn't mind if they had gone ahead and kept this design. Fits in better with the rest of the cast.

argretzi: I prefer the other one. This picture of Paul is looking unfamiliar to me and the other is more like a human-being in my opinion.

I almost managed to destroy the last of the harkonnen, i sent some spies, i found a very fortified base and the fort, i had some decent troops too.
I used to be scared of the sun's effect in this game when i was little, when Paul goes too far into the desert Heh.
