Even now, Donald has continued to maintain his number of feature film appearance since 1984. I think he has since starred or at least appeared in at least six more feature films, including Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Fantasia 2000.
@smartamateur I like to think of Donald as a former U.S. Navy or Marine Corps Seaman (E-3) who took two things with him after his military service: his fascination with marine paraphernalia (i.e. sailor's uniforms, model ships, yachts) and a crew cut hairstyle. Despite his reputation for disciplinary problems, Donald was nevertheless a brave and multi-skilled person with a straightforward personality. He would carry these traits over when he began his career in entertainment.

Donald Duck is a walking American flag. There's no other cartoon character who shows as much affection for his country.
Out of the 3 classic Disney characters (Mickey, Donald, and Goofy) Donald is the only one who served in the United States Military (Army and Navy).

Who's got the sweetest disposition?
One can't guess who.
Who never ever starts an argument?
Who never shows a bit of temperment?
Who's never wrong, but always right?
Who'd never dream of starting a fight?
Who gets stuck with all the bad luck?
No one, but Donald Duck!

That's the primary theme song sequence for the duck's post-1947 cartoons.
