  • russel rocks !!

  • @doubtsofshadow you're wrong about that I'm afraid. Noir means black, but it implies a dark, mysterious feeling. Not literally black and white.

  • Honestly I preferred the first one. I mean, technically Batman is film noir. It doesn't have to be black and white to work as film noir. For me it's more in creating the hard shadows and concealing things, something done far better in the first film.

  • Steve looks like a hobo with the beard scruffles

  • a film fight about aliens would be uber cool

  • suggestion - me!

  • Both real good. Seemed like Homertons broke the 180 line a couple of times.

  • HELL YEAH!! My 3d glasses are signed by Steve Nelson :)

  • I actually like the reactions (:

You can see the films on the website if you don't like it (:

  • Russels dialogue was a little bad, some shots seem to be mis lit trowing the shots off, color correction could have helped, angles, were good in some areas, rough in others

Homertons better angles, audio could have been better, lighting had good, and bad moments, good switch between the two

  • the second one was really cool. The first one was really good, but noir litteraly means black, so its supposed to be in black and white.

The second one was really good, imposing film noir in a real life situation and I loved the switch between black and white and color whenever he was in his imagination and when he had to come back to reality.

  • @doubtsofshadow Glad you liked our movie (Homerton), but remember that film noir doesn't have to be in black and white!

  • @indymogul Love the show! I'm making a movie for the Epidemic fight right now! I have an idea for a new fight! A spoof of a spoof! Difficult! Fun! Creative! What do ya think?!

  • Russell-- I liked the two main actors' faces in half-light, half-dark. I'm sure there's some cool "film term" for that, but I don't know it. Homerton--Very clever writing.

  • @GlowWorm719 Low Key Lighting.

  • @Ephisus Thanks! I'm one of those guys who loves the behind-the-scenes stuff and I've watched close to every episode of Backyard FX, but never made a build... I live vicariously through Indy Mogul.

  • Russell-- I liked the two main actors' faces in half-light, half-dark. I'm sure there's some cool "film term" for that, but I don't know it.

  • The Snake has a great shirt.

  • Steve Nelson the movie?

  • great show!

  • what Steve said was good but the sequences was not connected

  • I'd love to enter but I haven't got friends that are willing to be caught on camera

  • steave u need a shave

  • Its not every day you see real old people.

  • Love Film Fights, simply love it.

  • Russel's movie was well put together, blood was okay, and the effects on color and shots were pretty great.

Really well put together but could have spoken a bit clearer, but overall was good narration. The story line was also pretty good too, I enjoyed some of the comedy but other parts were just kind of, there.

Anyways, overall put together, the second one was really great; but for my own personal enjoyment I like the first one more.

  • This episode was great. both the hosts and the films. dont change it :D

  • I missed steve. :D

  • steve looks like a hobo

  • @ChanceLandesman A HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN!

  • hahaha was steve really high there?

  • Steve kinda looks like a hobo now lol

  • The Missing Rent! Definitely.

  • Great show! Viperfang HW all day! They don't even have to enter!

  • old man doesn't care about his life

  • soooooooo no more jake?

  • The Missing Rent was dynamite. Nice and simple, lots of locations, and cool in-out Noir changes.

  • wow steve grew a beard

  • You should do a film fight where its all one shot no cutting.......

  • Do a documentary film fight. Documentary is a style of film making as well and can also be very creative. maybe a 3 minute documentary about anything. would be really interesting to see what people come up with.

  • The Homerton film was the best

  • @indymogul Both the films were definitely great but I think the first one was just all around a better movie. It definitely felt like a film noir to me. It feels like you sort of wrote out what you put in your description (Or don't stick with the classic film noir, make a moder one ala Brick). I would have voted for the first one.

  • @movieman626 maybe- It lacked most of the conventions associated with any kind of noir, though. No dutch angles, no depressed narration, no wide lenses, no moral ambiguity. The low key lighting was pretty much all it had.

  • what do you think of our song" Crazy outlàw" on our channel??? could it be used for one of your videos?? thank you very much!

  • hey dead end was better

  • The first one was great it had a perfect script/actors and your right it was an action short.

The second one is the more film noir type. I appreciate the vast locations and the voice over gives this video dominance over the first. But ill let you decide. Thanks

Yo i want you and Steve to check my actions.

PS. We are the two teens from Zack and Miri make a Porno. Nicholas Lombardi and Chris Milan. Holla!!

  • hhahahha wannnabe sin city (you know what i mean)

  • Homerton was my favorite. Russel's was cool, but didn't follow the challenge. The noir was clear with the Homerton one, and they made it funny. The switching was COOL!

  • 3:25 wait...he came in with his gun un-cocked?

  • lol tap 8 over and over and it looks like justin is tapping you

  • @TheGamerLand THAT IS AWESOME

  • wouw russels film was good! i ilike the blood effects. most people kindof forget the blood xD!!

  • 03:17, they bleeped out 'God'.. haha

  • The show is really cool, but I think that it would be better if you didn't interrupt the films with commentary or reactions.

  • @AerialAstro Cool - a couple people have said the same - we'll leave it out of the next one :) thanks for the feedback!

  • @indymogul thats the beauty of youtube. you actually have a chance to give feedback that will actually be heard and listened to

  • @indymogul I really like the little interjections, but that's probably because I've already seen all the films over on the site. For Youtubers who haven't seen the films before I guess it would be annoying!

  • @indymogul Personally, I really like the commentary.

  • @indymogul I like the commentary and reactions. I don't need to watch this video to see the films unadulterated.

  • @AerialAstro I totally agree and I really didn't understand why they were doing it considering it's the first time we, the audience, were experiencing these short films. Break down a movie after everyone has seen it, absolutely, for example after we've voted, but it makes no sense at this stage of the film-fight process.

  • Thumbs up if you did open the tab!

  • Damn, When he said "check out Steve's 4 minute film school" I thought he meant there were new episodes coming :(

  • Homerton gets my vote :D

  • How bout film fight wherein the whole video is only driven by the non-diegetic music The film cannot contain any dialogue (with exceptions to reaction sounds such as grunts, gasps, sighs etc.)

    Hows that sound?

  • @ConcussionProduction Tricky! We did one not so long ago where we gave everyone a 30 second audio file to make whatever they wanted out of it - it was interesting

  • @indymogul Hmmm true, forgot about that!

I got a pretty challenging idea. how bout a challenge of a short film (1:30-2min) all done in One take/shot? (any style or genre)

  • @indymogul but whhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyy

  • as for the 2nd movie; blk and wt film the camera need to pull in closer shots and make the film a lil grainy.

  • great...i like the evil guy...he's not old.

  • Thanks...I only feel old before my first cup of coffee...

  • great...i like the evil guy...he's not old.

  • Steve! I missed you! ):

  • I mean the 1st 1

  • pretty good but 1 of the f's didn't need 2 be there

  • Definately liked the Homerton one more. The first one didn't seem to fit the genre and, for what it's worth, had unconvincing effects. You could tell the Homerton was probably inspired by the Calvin and Hobbes Tracer Bullet persona, what with the switching between reality and his imagination.

  • I want Gary as the next special guest

  • For overall value of the production the first was a winner. Sure it was more of a cutlet of a movie but it was done fairly well. Homerton's video had an interesting plot twist, and I liked the transition from real to surreal. I think Homerton would do better with more direction in the dialogue. All the dialogue runs together and because of this lacks emotion.

  • i enjoyed it and i agree, i really enjoyed the twist in the homerton film

  • you guys should do 4 minute film school again

  • dead end is way better

  • "Dead End" by Russell Hasenauer: awkward and repetitive dialogue in a few places, but makes up for it in the action set pieces. However, it lacks the film noir feel because of the directing (or lack thereof). "The Missing Rent" by the Homerton Film Troupe: good use of dutch angles and OTS to establish feeling and depth. Use of color and black and white sequences differentiates fantasy from reality pretty well. Film lacks the violence factor associated with hardboiled.

    The Missing Rent wins.

  • Homerton film troupe!! I found the first one really didn't have a beginning middle and end, it was more like a scene.

  • Nice one.

  • Justin, I'm thinking of getting a new camera soon (I'm still stuck in the dark ages of standard definition!) - would you recommend a prosumer camcorder, or a similar price video DSLR like the 60D? I have some EOS lenses already for my 35mm SLR, and I guess you'd get a little more control over DoF even though the 60D isn't full-frame. But there's something nice about shooting with something that actually looks like a video camera!

  • @EnvelopeGenerator 60D!!! I love it! You just have to buy a lot of supplementary gear to make it work like a normal camera (Zoom audio recorder, mic, etc)

  • @justinsuperstar It's really tempting, especially as I already have the lenses... Do you have much trouble with rolling shutter issues from it being a CMOS chip? Cos that would be a real turn-off for me! How much of a hassle is focus pulling during shots, too? It seems like DSLRs blow camcorders out of the water in terms of image quality, but camcorders win by a mile in every other respect :P

  • @EnvelopeGenerator You just gotta learn how to shoot around the shutter issues, it's really not terribly bad

  • STEVE!!!!!!!! Omg I've missed him so so much.

  • One was the best

  • the first film was awesome! it was so tense. really well done. i understand your choice, but the first was super!

thanks! keep up the good work, filmfightstv!

  • the first film was awesome! it was so tense. really well done.

  • tell steve he owes me four-hundred dollars.

  • Fights Suggestions:

"Unexpected Love Story" - 2 people who have nothing in common meet in the most unexpected way and keep seeing each other in the most random places/times, then end up falling for each other in the most unexpected way - 3:30+

    "Original Doritos Commercial" - <1:00

"Any Kind of Mystery" - the title says it all; then the mystery is solved in the end - 3:00+

    :)

  • Russel's movie was Greatcellent! The acting wasn't perfect, but it was quite good.

  • Steve!

  • i love "stand by me"!!

  • I likes Hard Boiled the best, I do agree that for the catagory, it should have been in black and white.... Missing Rent was...ok, I guess? It wasn't very interesting though and didn't keep my interest at all..

  • Steven Nelson needs to come back. The dude's a damn pro.

  • how was the first one film noir?

  • second one was probably better

  • I found the Noir film a bit boring after a while so Im gonna have to go with the Russel video.

  • they both were good, but i like the second one better.

  • you guys kinda ruin it... with your cutaway comments

  • Bring steve back as a regular!!

  • Hard Boiled was good. I didnt care to much for the special effects but the lighting and acting was good.

Missing rent although short on interesting story line, The dutch angle and other shots were great. I kinda liked the the detective voiceover, the very first part was cool and and made stay put to see the rest.

  • can we watch the "movie" w/out injecting your reactions in the film as we watch it

  • The first movie was awesome! I voted for this since it catches my interest.

  • The audio sucked balls on the second one. Not to mention the acting

  • the beard... just the beard.

  • the first one kind of sucked

  • missing rent was retarded.

  • this was great

but if anything id say no mid film commentary

  • @fufuberry23 Cool - I'm never sure what people think about that - I want to add something extra though for the filmmakers - since you can see the film in it's entirety on the site

  • I loved the first movie it looked like it was going to start slow but was so full of intence moments acting was not bad at all.

  • homer simpson troupe bc they have more of a film noir genre

  • @01051825 :C ^^

  • Great for first and good camera work.

  • great for first and good camera work

  • Russell's film definitely won.

  • yay steve is da best man

  • @SpicedHammers Yeah!

  • yay steve is da best

  • nice:)

  • STEVE!

  • does the projector (or any light) not damage the camera? its always been something that i try to avoid when making movies, and i got one of my friends to write the scripts and there are always funny and have us acting our age, but one of my other friends wrote two scripts for us, one we where secrete agents, and the other in an army, we didn't have the spot or props, so we made one set in the staffroom, (my kitchen) and the other after footage i dropped. Good advice! Check them out, Im 12.

  • @NIKEISNICKY12345 Thanks for the comment! I think that filming into the sun can be damaging, but filming into any kind of normal light source, like a projector, is fine!

    I'll check out your stuff!

  • @NIKEISNICKY12345 This does happen, but it's normally by lasers.

  • pretty cool

  • WATCH THIS AND THUBS UP THE COMMENT SO STEVE NELSON COULD SEE THIS!!! /watch?v=jDqPOj6t2lY

  • that first movie was beast! definitely better then the second one.

  • Hey Steve, who is the singer in your band?

  • Second one was best, the first one did not seem very much like film noir though.

  • WHERE IS THE BLOND CHICK :'(

  • Russles film is better.

  • The russell movie was very intense and i think he did a good jog in the last shot, but the way he disarmed and shot hit the boss was kind of doubtful.

But is the best movie today !!!

  • Homerton one was pretty funny. I think making rent really dramatic was a good idea.

Russ's film was really well don't, I agree it would have fit better if it were in black and white.

  • SPOILER: It's Steve

  • i liked the first one

  • i disagree, i lied the other film better

  • That was pretty cool.

  • lol,. just to be honest, your acting is too noticeable, as if, you are not trying, but either way, Its all awesome :P

  • Aha, I love ye guys, trololol

  • I think the films were okay, but your film fighters really need to study their genres more.

  • @tdktv Awesome! Thank you for the sub!

  • Get Bobby Back

  • 0:13 potatoe salad! thumbs up if you know the joke

  • Film Noir is one of my favourite genres.

  • @Electroguy1996 Us too! It's awesome

  • Why isn't his gun cocked before he goes in the room? And then why does he cock the gun after he takes it from the goon even though it was already fired?

  • @Z0mbieGenocide Very biting questions inDEED - good attention to detail :)

  • Hey I remember that guy! What happened to him?

  • @ChaoticMatters Steve is perusing his music career!

  • "a genuine old person" :]

  • @MrArando Yup, REAL ONES! Not fake ones!

  • 11:41

    no -.-

  • omg its a hobo aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh

  • @Romshch Hobo with a shotgun

  • first video = bad acting;)

  • MISSING RENT : OMG ITS ORLANDO BLOOM!!!

  • @BenjtheMan Haha!! YEAH! Celeb cameo!
