  • Even though you didn't metion him, I gotta say it. Geoff Johns is really over rated in my opinion. Between im and morrison, they run DC. But my personal problem with the guy is he took wally west outta the picture for barry. I hate barry, and wally has more experience

  • 5.JMS

    4.Matt Fraction

    3.Andy Diggle

    2.Peter David

    1.Grant Morrison

  • 1. Alan Moore.

    2. Garth Ennis.

    3. Stan Lee.

    4. Frank Miller.

    5. Jeph Loeb.

  • It been like 2 years so this might xeplane it but I would thought JMS would had made the list

  • hardboiled was a nice little read, took about 20 min though. but the life and times of martha washington in the 21st century was AMAZING. it was the complete give me liberty series and it was astounding. you have to read it.

  • the more recent issues of the boys is more story than vulgarity for vulgarity

  • Comment removed

  • I agree with Morrison's recent Batman run being a great epic. In the future, it will probably be all collected as one whole story. Garth Ennis on Punisher Max and Preacher... Wow, great stuff. Frank Miller! Elektra: Assassin, DD: Love & War, his first DD run, DD: Man Without Fear, DD: Born Again, DKR, Year One, Robocop VS The Terminator, Hard Boiled, Ronin, Sin City, He's amazing. I did not like his recent Robocop at all and I did not like DKSA at all either.

  • or late 80s? I can't remember. Around that time anyway.

  • Check out Batman: Gothic by Morrison. It's taken from the beginning of the Legends Of The Dark Knight series. Early 90s.

  • Love Peter David's run on Hulk.

  • Dark Knight returns-good

Dark Knight strikes again-terrible I loved his work on Batman year one,DKR, and his work on Daredevil. Do like all-star batman & robin

  • Really? I dug strikes again.

  • @blowshimselfupdude HOW? Not to be rude anything, but just curious.

  • @blowshimselfupdude Same here, man. None of my friends like Strikes Again, and i seem to be only one amongst them who liked it. But again, I understand their opinions

  • @falloutmanize I really dont get why. I mean, even if you look at it as a satire, its still a horrible story.

  • I know Linkara really doesn't like Garth Ennis. He said it in his Superman at earth's end review.

  • I know but I love him. He's so good.

  • "an ultra psychedelic sherbet bomb wit and ideas. The superheroes of the 21st are here at last..." That's what Grant Morrison said about 'Umbrella Academy'. The whole Academy story is just one trade, and six issues. There's a movie being made about them which I'm excited about. And they're considering puttin Alphonso Cuaron on it, at least that's what Gerard Way the creator wants.

  • in no particular order

    alan moore

    garth ennis

    grant morrisson

    warren ellis

    brian k. vaughn

  • I'd think that the top 5 to me would be:

Dan Slott (This guy really is underrated)

    Mike Carey (X-men runs)

    Warren Ellis

    Mark Millar

    James Robinson

Its really funny that non of them constantly worked on batman (My fav character)

  • 5. Stan the Man

    4. Don Heck

    3. Alan Moore

    2. Frank Miller

    1. Mike Mignola

  • "Whatever Happened to the man of tomorrow was eh. It's no where near something like All Star Superman. "

Even better you say? Is there a review anywhere? "WHTMOT?" had everybody and was an incredible finale to the classic Superman. All the classic villains were there, and I do believe that Mxyzptlk could totally fuck up the DC universe if he wanted to. I loved his "final form," so cheesey yet so cool. Plus Krypto made a tearful sacrifice. If All Star is better, than it must be SUPER AWESOME!

  • 5. Jeff lobe partly because I like his work but partly just to bug you.

    4. Grant morision

    3. Frank millier

    2. Paul Dini Because of Batman the Animated series

    1. Goff Jones I have not seen anything of his I don't like

  • I remember you said you didn't like Grant Morrison's Batman run. What made you come to like it so much now?

  • I don't like Batman and Son on it's own. But after reading the rest of his run i've come to apreciate it.

  • i loved ronin

  • Is Preacher really that good? I heard from some people that his Hellblazer and Punisher stuff is his lightest work, and those are even violent. Is Preacher worth a try? I've read his Hellblazer stuff, and I've got a big omnibus of his Punisher run. Do you recommend it?

  • Preacher is fantastic.

  • i like miller and everything hes done, mostly because im a huge bat fan and i find year one to be not only a good batman story but probably one of the best books ever written. also i like gaiman and his sandman and his book American gods. Finally Paul dini and i dont think i need to explain why

  • I still don't think that All-Star Batman and Robin startd out comedic; I think he just switched the tone when he found out how bad the reception was. Anyway, my favorites are

    1) Brian K. Vaughan

    2) Alan Moore

    3) Brian Wood

    4) Neil Gaiman

    5) Joss Whedon

I would have put Terry Moore somewhere up here too, but he fucked up the new Runaways recently.

  • You know I have not been impressed by Whedon's comic work. Like when he wrote the X-men it didn't read like X-men it read like Buffy. It's a bit in the last book that it was Kitty on the page but I swear Willow was talking.

I love Runaways but I've only read the first volume of Y so I couldn't really put Vaughan on the list.

  • Read "Fray". It's amazingly written, though its highlight is definitely the characters, not the plot which is really similar to Season 7 of Buffy at the end.

  • I se the opisite for season 7 I was so bored of all the characters except Giles by the last maybe 5 eps of season 7 I just cared about the plot.

  • 1) Alan Moore

    2)Mike Allred

    3)Paul Pope

    4)Mike Baron

    5)Alan Grant

  • I like Mike Allered. Madman Rocks!

  • My five favourite writers from 5 to one are:

    5) Ed Brubaker

    4) Daniel/Charlie Knauf

    3) Frank Miller

    2) Stan Lee

    1) Dave Micheline/Bob Layton

  • Brubaker would have been my number 6.

  • League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen may be a terrible movie, but I heard it's an awesome comic book. His DC stuff is just great. He got me interested in the Green Lantern and the GL Corps. He also wrote the Killing Joke, which had a Joker that was both sick, crazy, and sympathetic at the same time. And oh yes, "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" is simply the BEST superman story ever written, ever! Moore doesn't go for a writing style, but his works are almost always enlightening.

  • I liked hte first League book. But I hated the second one. I like The Killing Joke.

Whatever Happened to the man of tomorrow was eh. It's no where near something like All Star Superman.

  • Where's Will Eisner? You know there's a reason 'em "Eisner" awards. Alan Moore gets a #1 spot in my book. He wrote Watchmen, the greatest comic book of all time. That alone is a qualification. V for Vendetta is also a must! From Hell is considered a classic, and it's 500 pages long! Tom Strong tends to be fun adventures. He also revamped Swamp Thing. Wrote a neat erotic cult classic based on 19th century children's literature called Lost Girls...

  • I haven't read alot of Eisner. These are my personal favorites not the best.

Moore has alot of good work but his very much a dick and he tends to rail against most comics no written by him.

  • i cant really say top five faorite writers but one of my favorite writers is alan moore because i forgot where he said this but he once said that he doesn't give people what they want he gives them what they need and i really like his writing.i also like frank miller and grant morrison

  • I'm off put by Alan moore since he's kinda a dick about comics that aren't written by him.

  • yeah i gotta agree with that

  • I love Grant Morrison, JLA, All-Star Superman, his run on Batman, New X-Men. All... just... great. Kevin Smith is pretty good, especially his Green Arrow work.

  • yah I liked that. It was good. But he hasn't done enough to real earn a spot. If it was my top 5 fav screen writers he'd be on there.

  • What about Young Justice?

  • I've actually never read it.

  • I like Grant Morrison and Alex Ross, I also like Stan Lee and Steve Ditko

  • I don't like Alex Ross at all out side of Kingdom Come. Because he's a huge hypocite. He talks on and on about the silver age but then tells modern stories that are jsut as dark and violent as everything else.

  • I don't know about his other stuff, but I loved his ( garth ennis) punisher stuff

  • try his early work on flash...........he shows the true emotions of each rogue ........its really dark

  • I've read the first to volumes and I really wasn't blown away.

  • geoff johns is the best writer ..............he saves the dc universe on title after another

  • I haven't read anything by him that I absolutly loved. I liked stuff by him. But I've never loved any of his stuff.

  • Though he did make Green Lantern the best title to read right now and showed just how much potential the GL Universe had to tell extremly awesome stories, I almost can't forgive him for how he completly just destroyed Wonder Woman in Infinite Crisis and One Year Later.

  • He didn't write her for One Year Later did he?

  • No, Allen Heinberg wrote her but you can clearly see Johns' fingerprints just smeared all over the story because many of ideas that were in the reboot were ideas the Johns was preaching throughtout his previous works and Johns does have a pretty big voice in what happens in the DCU. He was also a close friend of Heinberg's, a factor which doubtless influenced the reboot negatively.

  • I actualy intend to get Doom Patrol, it's that kind of thing Morrisson should primarily do and be known for .

But Ennis used to be good, have not read the Boys, , but from what I've seen from his pre Max punisher (read the 2nd book, whiized through the others) and found that he REALY coopies himself in Punisher . Mama Gnucci ends up looking like Marie L'ANgelle (and burning down in the exact same house) and Soap is just a copy of Tool, except he gets re used to much .

  • I tried to read Doom Patrol. It feels like someone on acid wrote it(he was on acid when he wrote it so it makes sence). It was just too weird and ilogical for me.

In his pre max punisher he's kinda tied down by what he can do. He doesn't have that in Max. I sugest you check that out it's much better.

  • I don't think I have fave comic book writers.

Speaking of which I was looking over the Spider-Man story lines from the comics and WTF is up with Gwen Stacy fucking Norman Osborn?

  • Yet again it's Joe Quasada's fault. See the original story line was going to reveal that Gwen had had kids but that they were Peter's so it ws going ot be a whoel respocibility thing. Joe said no and that the writer had to make it norman's kids. Cuz Joe Quasada is a duche bag.

  • The same guy who did Brand New Day? Does he hate Spider-Man? I mean, really? Douchebag

At least he can't fuck up the animated series...

  • Well he's editor and chief at MArvel so he actually probably could.

  • So he does hate Spider-Man?

  • Seems that way. He says it's all to make the character "like he's supposd to be"

  • That's not how he's "supposed" to be

  • I agree. But that's Quasada's deffence.

  • I voted him as one of the five people I would punch in the face if given the chance

  • I'm mixed on him. He's done some stuff I hate and some stuff I like.

  • 1. Mark Waid

    2. Marv Wolfman

    3. Phil Jimenez

    4. Geoff Johns

    5. George Perez

  • Reasons?

  • I'll make a video expalining in greater detail later.

  • I got ya.
