  • The projected peak power at 16m/s is: 8.5kW aerodynamic; 7.0kW DC; 6.5kW grid

    4197 kWh at 5m/s to BWEA standards;

Up to 12,729 kWh at 7m/s

No reduction in power output at up to 40% turbulence intensity

  • It looks nice but, how much energy it produce? How is the efficiency? Thinking on a profile that moves headwind and at the same time tailwind...Don´t seems really efficient....

  • I liked the part when the wind turbine was spinning

  • Are vertical shaft turbines more quiet then the horizontal shaft ones? It definitely looks like it is spinning faster, but does it also generate more power then the horizontal shaft design?

  • I guess this type of wind turbine is safer compared to a turbine that has its blade spinning as the wind blows. Yes, it looks like a blender but with this design it is harmless to anything that is near on this device.

  • Love IT!!! California needs to invest more in Green Tech!!! Prop 23 is down in the polls, but the Yes on 23 campaign just got a new influx of hot, anonymous cash, so we'll need to fend them off in the home stretch to Election Day.

Hit me back if you'd like to talk Prop 23. We're coming out with a bunch of great No on Prop 23 videos soon!

  • Bird navigate many things like tree branches where many make there nests... I think they can easily fly by one of these without ramming into it... They do have eyes... What about all the fish killed by electric-hydro plants? Or all the HUMANS getting sick from SMOG! I would rather see a bird die then a HUMAN!! but then im not one that holds wild life over human life like some wacko's.. If you love animals so much stop eating them....

  • LOL yes GIANT bird blenders

  • Do you people realize how many Birds fly into house windows every year and kill or severely wound themselves? I think a bird is far more likely to fly into a freshly cleaned window then to fly into a loud spinning wind turbine (not that it doesn't happen, just making a big picture comparison here).

  • What are you people so worried about birds for? Yes, if one gets caught. that's a tragedy. Okay, so we get rid of all the wind-turbines. What would you prefer? Nuclear power? Coal? Gasoline? Birds aren't so stupid as to see a dangerous, spinning object and fly right into it you know. Some people are just impossible.

  • Bird blender , .... pretty good. We had a plate glass sliding door that was a real bird killer. The birds kept flying into it so often that the neighbor's cat would wait around to snatch up the victums.

Had to paint pair of big eyes on the door to give the birds a chance to pull out and miss smashing into the glass.

    Poor little guys.

Really nice looking turbine, how can you buy / lease one?

  • 真的很静音呀!

  • bird blender :)

  • My dog likes to eat birds, so I could put this bird blender in my back yard and cut my pet food cost up to 80%. lol

  • Don't you think that the guys who managed to convert the wind into power to generate energy for our homes are just genius heroes! We need more of these people for our future! Not to mention that these high tech sculptures add a lot to the urban landscape as functional art!

  • @MrSattn before you pat them on the back this was done one hundred years ago. only thing oil was so cheap you would have been nuts to use something so unreliable as wind. now with the grid system in place, it makes perfect sense

because the wind is always blowing somewhere.

  • Dont get me wrong, im an environmentalist and anyone who thinks that yellowcake or oil is good is clearly not the brightest pea in the pod. But this really looks like something I have in my kitchen!

  • wow, I thought another of these windmills looked like a bird blender but this one takes the medal. I want one :)

  • @markkragh do you think dead birds are on the ground. dont you think if these could harvest the sky of birds they might have been used as traps years ago world wide? or, do you just not think.

  • datzfast, good point. Like I said, I am all for windpower and I am sure that any road in the UK kills more birds then a windmill. This also looks cool as MrSattn point out - But it still looks like a blender :)

  • @markkragh yes it looks like a blender but for its weight, i bet the power is greater than other designs. some times weight is critical such as on roof top additions. why roof top additions? my flat roof is 32 feet off the ground and the wind speed i estimate is double that on the ground. but i have made no decision as yet.

  • I can buy oil for 20 years with the money spent on a turbine that has a life span of 5 years ! doesn't make any sense.

    unless you voted for Obama!

  • new wind plants have a higher return rate than oil...

  • your full of baloney

    treehugger

  • @heavyweather you mean a shorter payback or break even time right. or mabey return rate as a shareholder

  • If nothing is done and soon, by these oil breathing polies,

bird blending or not, there is not much hope for anything cute.

The only safe nuclear reactor we have happens to be 8 light minutes away, and while not broken why fix any more?

    Great video.

  • Wow! What a stupid idea! Surely the folks already opposed to wind power will have a field day with this highly efficient bird blender!

  • I must admit, I am a green advocate but that was also the first thing I though.

    A bird Blender.

  • That is funny

I'll bet you get some flack from the tree huggers

  • There is nothing wrong with producing energy, and getting dinner all at the same time. Makes being off the grid that much easier!

  • Mal educated.. ;(

  • awsome bird blender.

  • Your NOTHING!!!

  • Practical and it also doubles up as mobile art. Brilliant!

  • I would love to se a bird fly into that

  • Birds are the most sophisticated flying thing here on earth! It will not crash in to it ! Brainless insect! How about test it for yourself.Crash in to it ! phaze44x ! Stupid !!!

  • Its called a joke? maybe you should either cheer up or go buy some razor blades and kill yourself. Serious Fail is serious.

  • You need a life man, its called a joke.

  • Starving worm bread! Get your self a job!!!

  • I have a job

    You Fail.

  • False. That is exactly the kind of turbine the kills birds. The blades turn so fast they blur. Maybe this type of turbine could be scaled up so it turns more slowly.

  • That is your opinion. You mean the airplane? Its blur.. ..

  • The smaller turbines necessarily have to turn at a higher RPM. The high RPMs chop up the birdies. Not that I really care.

However, the really big turbines turn much more slowly. That is lower RPMs. Low RPM's are better for flying critters, and make far lass noise.

  • None of the damn things will pay for themselves.

    just another scam

  • These things look really cool. I would put that thing up even if it didn't harvest energy. I guess that is just an added bonus.

  • That is quiet.

  • Any form of clean energy is good energy! Great video!

Come check out or channel - greenstarenergy & feel free to rate!

    Thanks

  • in this video in the 46, 47 second in the sky is flying a satelite or ufo.

  • Mate, you should be standing at the finishing line of most races. How the hell did you spot that?

Could be anything BTW but you have damn good eyes.

  • Its a low orbiting Hubble Satellite ...Most likely its moving, you will notice it...you have an eagle eye! Great!

  • They only way they can sue you for violating a patent is if you make and market their invention. If you have to means to make one for yourself and you don't sell it, they can't do anything. Ecologist96 is very shortsighted. Patents encourage discovery and advancement. Inventions take a lot of work, time, and money. If you take away the ability to make a return on their investment why would anyone spend the time inventing things to make your life better? I may be wrong, but.... I'm not.

  • so i've been searching and researching how to get something like this but can't find direct info on how. when is this technology going to be readily available in the US?? i'm very anxiouse to get one or two. greener living is all hype at this point...i'm ready to take action!!!!!

  • Well here is where patents are bad: The company is British and they have patented this so you will have to pay extra shipping. Quite unfortunate I must say.

  • that's too bad cause they are missing out on allot of potential. they should look into some companies over her to produce them. in my home town alone there are two companies that would do a great job at making these. Voith and American Hydro are water turbine companies. if they would team up they could make more money faster.

  • I want to see the inside of this one, wonder how the wires are fed, I hope they arn't spinning in there a 100000 miles and hour. but this looks like a great design, plus if you can get ducks to fly throught, you can eat free year round.

  • imagine one flying apart lol

  • Ill take two.... thousand.

  • does anyone know an institution or project that researches the functionalities of these wind turbines?

  • exactamundo!

  • Looks like a bird shreadder!!

  • hahaha

  • Actually birds can see this much easier than a 10m long blade coming in from the side.

  • @tadnemakt1983 in fact it looks like a bird grinder, but it is much safer to birds, than traditional horizontal axis wind turbine...

  • nice design much less frightening than the large propeller movement..still not happy about seeing them popping up all over the landscape tho..old fashioned dutch style windmills were much more visually pleasing

  • Eggbeaters have their drawbacks, but this is an interesting design.

  • surely enough a nice unit, a turby spin off, unfortunately way to expensive and therefore economically not the way to go ...

  • 6 cents is cheap. do you live in BC?

  • I see your point. Maybe you can borrow the money from a bank. Interest rates are very low now.

  • I do not believe that. The maintenance associated with micro wind far exceeds that of large turbine units.

  • It's a nice experiment but will never work on a large scale. The cross sectional area is just too small to generate any real amount of electricity.

  • l know families that have these as their maiin source of power, l don't think they were meant for largescale power production.

  • Great design.

  • i co dalej kreci sie ok ale w jaki sposob produkuje prad ile volt ,,?

  • if i were a bird.... i wouldnt get close to it xD

  • muhahahahaha :)))

    That was funy

  • home made wind turbine my friend..... home made.... magnets, wire, bearings.. and some knowledge and effort. makes it cheap

  • Yes, but if you do this yourself they will sue you for the patent. Law can be cruel! Get rid of the patent so that more people can get it! It's gonna be cheaper.

  • why not a COMBO SOLAR /WIND GENERATOR?

  • Might as well have them seperate. The two wouldn't fit well together.

  • thats what i'v been saying all along.

  • Wind blows horizontal, to date the most efficient wind turbines are the horizontal type designs NOT the vertical or (helix type)shown here. Horiz. turbines have the most sweep area per blade diameter, thus creating the maximum torque at low wind speeds or higher. Helix or vertical wind turbines are the least efficient, in reguards to torque or useable power output! All of these other vertical turbine designs look nice (for show) but are impractical for any kind of sufficient power generation.

  • Vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) are just as efficient as horizontal wind turbines with aerodynamic performance coefficients up to 0.45, investigated by the DOE at Sandia Laboratories. Both horizontal and vertical turbines use aerodynamic lift to propel the turbine, just the rotation is in a different axis. Performance accounts for the torques imposed on the rotor so the sizes of the blades are unjustified. VAWTs are typically quieter, require less material to build and are equally efficient.

  • The company produce this stated energy output between avg 6,000 and 10,000 kWhrs, is this per day? per month? or per annum?

  • per annum of course

  • people could make funfair carousels on this kind of stuff ;D would be possible to earn more money from the wind

  • Global warming is part of the problem, but look at all the things we depend on that are made from petroleum: plastics, lubricants, fertilizers, medicines, asphalt, waterproofing, etc.

Burning the precious stuff to make electricity and push cars is foolish, when there are so many other ways to that.

    WE

  • That is awesome!

  • I wish I could own one TODAY!!!!

My summer cooling bills are killing me!

  • your energy bills will not go down if you owned of of these. You might not receive a monthly bill anymore, but you pay a big chunk when you install a turbine, which takes you about 6 - 10 years to recoup. Get used to the fact, that our energy bills will never go down. One of the biggest costs that were never taken in consideration was the price of destroyed eco-balance.

Also, consider insulating your house. I don't need any power for cooling our house!

  • if we ever find a way to get rid of 98% of the human consumer - breeder-shitters we will save the eco system

  • Does anyone knows wats the NACA design for the aerofoil they have used in QR5?? pl let me its very urgent

  • how many kilowatt per average household, a large fridge+computer+TV+2,000 square foot air condition coverage+florescent lights+ electric stoves and microwaves oven, consume per day vs per wind turbine generate per day, anyone ever calculate the details?

  • between 30kW and 100kW per day. If you have gas stove, and water heat.... and gas furnace forced air heat.... you might be around 20kW to 40kW depending on the other usage of your home.

  • lol you guys are funny, what does wind power have anything to do with god?

  • I'm a southern conservative and I believe in being good stewards to the land. I doubt god likes it when people go around talkin politics for him.

  • "Homosex and environmentalism are taking over and all you can do is sit there and say "its not nice to talk for God"?"

That´s a pollite (christian) way to tell you

that you are speaking for your own dump

mind, but not for any form god. Don´t you

know god is almighty, so everything that happen is god´s will. In fact it´s nothing

else than blasphemy, claiming your own

stupidity and hatred to be a proclamation of "god´s will".

  • Dude -- chill. The nice folks with the organic compost and the buttsex are not going to take over, I promise.

  • i bet you drink a glass of oil every day

  • Kind of tingly, actually.

  • I feel nothing, therefore he doesn't exist. ;)

  • lattelib, thats a great piece of satire. whats funny is that there are repcons out there actually trying to digest it into some twisted new dogma of the right. they dont even recognize when they are being made fun of. good work!

  • Don't worry latte, the us economy has been in resession for quite a while now mostly because of american bloodlust and greed. Any iraq oil profits they squeeze out will diminish once iraqi fighters attack your homeland in retribution for a greedy war.

  • If you don't like the idea of dying in a fruitless war, study hard and do well in school and you won't be forced to do the only thing left for the lower intelligence percentile... join the forces. I support the troops just not the war, don't confuse the two, you are as bad as bush. And lets face it he is an idiot.

  • The Bible teaches love and one of the main messages is not to judge and kill. That is the job of God, practice what you preach. It in't your place to say who should and who shouldn't be exterminated. I was born in Iran and am a British Christian, I'm not a traitor. You need to see the world from somewhere other than Fox news.

  • its not a matter of economy... if we keep using fuels with carbon in them we get global warming... more global warming = bad. see? easy

  • you must love the smell of napalm in the morning

  • So you are actually saying that this vind turbine is a threat to US national security and your way of life? Maybe you should drop a laser guided bomb on the traitors factory! That should teach them good christian republican values!!

  • ya shame everyone!! Keep supporting corruption and greed. Don't be self sufficient!! God Damn you! lol

  • to latteliberal...You must be a product of the late 90's. : D

  • If we lived as god wanted us to and lived and acted on good morals the planet God created could then and only then heal itself as God intended. Since we live on pride and selfishness and dishonesty the planet is in need of us to undo the harm we have caused it. God created us not with the intention to be so destructive.

  • So you think jobs and corporate activity is selfish. What about not having children? Dont you think homosexuals are selfish for that? No babies = no soldiers to defend us from islamic takeover.

  • then if you fought for this nation, you fought for the freedoms of all the people, meening you have no right to say what people should do, evryone has the right to live as they want even as the stewards of the earth, and the eco movment has help to keep noah legacy alive by assuring the survival of endagered species, creatures that man would destroy for our own benifit

  • yes thats one speices of wackoos we all can afford to loose, that and muslims, thought the treehuggers wont shed a tear when you really become an endagered species, that meen we'll be winning

    LET PARTY

  • It's your choice to be "christian". though from what I read, you are judging other people and that is something only reserved for your 'God'. take a chill pill, actually READ the book, and worry about yourself. There's nothing wrong about being gay or caring about the environment.

    Anything else my little helper?

  • to latteliberal...the U.S. imports TWICE as much oil as it did in 1973.Twice as many US dollars going to foreign regimes that don't give two s---- about the Bill of Rights(freedom of religion) or the Constitution.National security, sovereignty, economy and ecology all depend on clean renewable energy.Renewable energy from domestic sources is as PATRIOTIC as it gets.

  • I love it!

  • wow a bird harvester lol

    bird pie anyone?

  • No more than a load of trees or a lack of trees affects the weather.

  • wtf0_0 why not call it the bird reaper

  • hahahah

  • Fewer than 1 bird in 10,000 is killed by a wind turbine. Biggest bird killers are buildings/plate glass, motor vehicles and house cats, in that order.

    WE

  • these look very fancy, they look like they would fit in with the tasma hall (spell check) if you added some color

  • keep in mind the more of these are produced the more the price will go down. If they were being produced on a massive scale one day the price would go down at least ten times. Plus you wouldn't need a big one like that for your house.

  • The average house uses 8000kwh a year, to power an entire house you would probably need a 10kw and thats big!

  • In 2005, the average monthly residential electricity consumption was 938 kilowatt hours (kWh), according to the Energy Information Administration.

That might be a little more than what you were thinking.

  • In 2005, the average monthly residential electricity consumption was 938 kilowatt hours (kWh), according to the Energy Information Administration.

That might be a little more than what you were thinking.

  • kWh is a unit of energy and kW is a unit of power. 8000 kWh/year works out to about 0.91 kW, so if that really is the yearly energy consumption you might be able to get away with using only one of these. Of course, you have to have appreciable wind speed in the area you want (6 m/s = 13.4 mph, a pretty good bit of wind), an unobstructed place to put it, and neighbors and planning board that don't mind a good-sized wind turbine.

  • beautiful -

now if I were a private party purchasing one of these, would I require maintenance from your company and if so, every how many years would it need to be lubricated, parts changed. Also the high pitch noise I can hear, has its spectrum been analyzed for correlation with known insect or bird chants ?

  • Comment removed

  • You have quite. Only unfortunately understand that almost no!

  • tax the peasants?..lol the peasants or poor do not pay income taxes, as a matter of fact they get paid money thats not theirs...it was stolen from others and given to them by the government.

  • you are full of baloney

radioactive half-life can be attained in 30 days now.

nuclear power plants would not have to dispose of the spent fuel - if that lib loser Pres. Carter hadn't created law making it illegal to reprocess nuclear waste.

  • i think more birds die from bad air then air turbines:D

  • Nuclear power is the most natural power source in the universe...our sun and even planet earth produce heat from nuclear power, the sooner we crack fusion as in we get more energy out then we put in (I'm not talking over unity here) the better... all this renewable crap which is susceptible to mechanical weakening and thus dangerous to the public just won't cut.

  • People are willing to say nuclear is safe but are they willing to live downstream from one. No one is going to want to live near the nuclear power plant hmmm wonder why? oh wait its because they are dangerous. safe? no dangerous. If you think it safe by all means move next to one with your family K? Then come back & tell us about in a few years.

  • I live in Uranium mining country, I have had yellow cake on my hands.

I would love to have a nuclear power plant in my back yard.

  • Just one word for you Mr. nuclear nincompoop "chernobyl"

OH Yea nuclear is SOOooo Safe. NOT! Did somebody beat you with an idiot stick or did you get too many RADS working at 3 mile Island? The rubish you are pushing about nuclear being natural is nothing lass than high level radioactive waste!

  • like it or not it's nuclear power thats causing that turbine to spin in the above video...Nuclear power generated by the sun which in turn heats our atmosphere.

I think you should re-read my post below, I did not say nuclear Fission was ''safe''. I was referring to nuclear FUSION which produces no radioactive waste just helium and a neutron. oh and it's spelled less, not ''lass'' and rubbish, not ''rubish''.

  • Then say that you mean fusion. Because people normaly think nuclear power -> atom core fission :/

  • Al Gore's house uses the same amount of energy that the sun produces.

  • Ya and in one trip Airforce one uses more fuel than the Spaceshuttle

  • I assume thats a joke? but just in case it is not, the shuttle uses around 4 million lbs of fuel to get into orbit. The fuel alone weighs over 26 times what the shuttle does by itself.I also assume you brought up Air Force One because Bush fly's on it? Every president has flown on it..what does that have to do with Al gores power usage.

  • If you give us a good reason why we should create waste that will only disintergrate half in 25,000 years.

  • And in case people get too worried about birds getting killed, they could put fine cages around the turbines. Would slightly reduce efficiency, but take arguments out of a redneck's mouth.

  • It isn't rednecks that worry about bird safety.

  • hell naw us rednecks would probably attach some kind of sensor to let us know when a bird gets pwnd so we can go get our dinner :P

  • You guys are either government employees who get paid to post gob shite on you tube or you are F***ing stupid. Nuclear waste is produced by plants, and wind energy is safe and natural

  • actually thorium nuclear power plants which are in the pipework for the future will be much more environmentally friendly and won't produce any weapons grade plutonium either...of course Fusion power would be great but that is just not viable yet.

  • I dont get it? ive seen alot of these wind turbine vids and people keep going on about bird killers?? the people that put these things up are not bird hunters but people who care about the environment the same environment the birds live in!! im on the motorway alot!! and ive seen so many birds get hit buy cars, trucks, even motocycles lets save a few birds get rid of turbines and build a nice bird safe nuclear power plant instead is that what you want BLOODY DUCK SQUEEZERS!!

  • 100% Agree with what you just said. As members of the highest part of the food chain , and also as members of the animal society that single handedly doomed mother earth, wee have the responsibility to do everything "humanly" possible to try and reverse what we have done with all these carbon emissions. If that means we have to kill a few birds. Oh well, 146,00 humans die every day. I'm not worried about some birds.

  • Very interesting design... And...bird shredder? If birds couldn't hear this and avoid it, they wouldn't avoid large mirrored (nearly invisible) buildings, and we'd have piles of dead birds around them. I don't think we have evidence that turbines kill LOTS of birds. A few, maybe, but buildings kill a few.

  • Darries wind turbines do kill birds. I made one of of them. Though this is quite small any harm to these turbines is small. Large scale commercial turbines have a bad gyroscopic procession. They suck birds in like no tomorrow, horizontal axis turbines these days are very good on low impact.

  • Another bird shredder

  • comes with the territory

  • hello

whos the manufacturer of this wind turbine???

    thank you

    regards

    Toro

  • uber bird blender! nice power output from what i hear from comments.

  • Don't forget to add in the entire package ..i.e. - environmental effects of creating the items to make the machine which provides "clean" energy. Is it clean if the process to make its components are hazardous to the environment? people forget that, especially when they go out and buy a Hybrid car...

  • birds flying..

  • dude!!! that is fast. you sould hook up a small permanant magnet motor, and hook that up to transformers in series!

  • FUCK that's FAST!

  • You can here this, but its a quiet swishing, and a lot quieter than a horizontal axis. To the gentleman who said it was expensive... these are quite large! not domestic sized. 9600kwhr averaged over a year is a very good yield.

  • That looks awesome, how does it compare to conventional wind turbines

  • The turbine is rated at 6kW and will have an expected output of 9600 kWh per year at an average annual wind speed of 5.8 m/s will provide 10% of the energy for a 600 m2 offi ce building.

    Cost: £25.000

  • £25.000 that is very very expensive!

is there anything cheaper! mesege me if u have an answear!
