I drove a 78 Cutlass with a Buick GS 455 mild cam for a while and it ate up about everything I raced. It had stock exhaust manifolds with true duals and 2.29 gears. Nice and high.
@sciowapker You dont know your engines. In the 60's and very ealry 70's the stock 455 in your grandmother's Delta 88 was good for over 350hp and 500+ fpt,442 Olds were rated at a little more. Olds and Buick built some of the fastest cars back in the day using the 455ci.
That Camaro doesn't have anywhere near that kind of power/torque unless it's heavily modified.
@sciowapker The Cutlass ran off and left the Camaro. This shows that the Olds had more power. Plus the Camaro weighs less, around 3400 pounds compared to the the heaver 3600 pound Cutlass so of course it's going to run with it for a short time. But as speeds increase HP takes over and it's by by Camaro. If you think about it,that Olds is an aerodynamic brick compared to the Camaro but it still out ran it. HP always wins on to end!
@sciowapker actually the race was no wheres near as close as the vid makes it out to be. the cutlass was 5 lengths easy when I left off the throttle, because i was running out of road and the race was pointless. we owned both cars . sold the z28 and still have the cutlass. but i will give the z28 it hung with me for a little bit..
@zLOSTNOMOREz Yeah the 455 was and still is a badass engine and I am a chevy guy. I would like to see a 71 chevelle 454 vs a 442 cutlass with the 455 that would be a good race.
@sciowapker the 455 has 250- 270 lbs/ft more torque than an LT1 stock to stock. Thats a huge difference. The small block V8 will be able to hit higher RPM so you can get higher paper HP out of a tuned LT1 but low to midrange torque is what gets you up to speed not peak hp at red-line. both good engines for what they are. Just an fyi
dawm they did the same length of a burnout from the launch and u can see how the camaro has a better suspension but them both didnt get traction for shit! lol
@camirocz im talking about the LS series in general dinglenuts. most people that hear LS1 automatically assume you mean the entire GM LS series of engines
i like how people think doing a burnout on their street tires is gunna do much for traction. it doesnt do shit, but waist tread.. gets sum drag radials or slicks
Burnout rubber is a tie!

@evil57belvedere Not sure those 3.73s will do that car's traction any favors LOL. Not unless it has got sticky tires.
