@MetalJuggler Vocal range = skill? He doesn't have that big o range anyway, as it sounds quite thin in the lower parts(Without harmonies, ofc) . Jorn has a lil' less than 4 octaves and has amazing power from the lowest to the highest. (Beyond Twilight - Crying is the best example.)

Also, with time Atle Pettersen will be really good (Check aspera/above symmetry out)

Jorn represents classical tenor/ hard rock singer with emphasis on full/chest voice and maybe middle pitched screams sometimes and the fact is that he's not high pitched power metal singer so since I'm studying voices and techniques particularly from both of the mentioned singers I'll just guide you to Highland Glory and Saint Deamon since Jan is obviously unknown to you.

@HeimanChords No he's not. I'm just annoyed by the people who think that the only aspect of being a "Good" (Since it's very subjective, also from my side, like most other things) singer is how high the notes you can hit are.

For example, I like Roy Khan (Young and old, maybe young a little bit better, anno 2000 the best, because range IS cool) quite alot better than Jan Thore.

@MrSilentDoubleA Yes he is! Well it's not subjective if you're singer and you're studying technique but in terms of basic preference you can have your opinion. Khan is not better than Jan in technical way, although he was pretty good Tenor until 2007. His live performance had been in constant decline and it's sad that he quit after all. The guy you linked is not even in the pocket of Jan's ability. Young Mr. in every aspect doesn't have technical abilities to sing in more than a Pop band.

But still, PERSONALLY, I like Jan Thore a little bit better because I am really more into the classical power metalish metal than Jorn/Masterplan. But don't get me wrong, Jorn is my favourite Norwegian singer after Jan.

Nobody who knows the guy should be so surprised, Jan is master of some of the most demanding figures in vocal technique (terms within Operatic/Metal/etc.) so pop is not something he'd find demanding; just listen to the music from Highland Glory or Saint Deamon.
