  • I worked for Amtrak back in the 90's for a number of years. I got the job after a friend told me they were hiring. I didn't know anyone or have any help I simply applied. I miss working there and would still be but I'm 100% disabled. You have to continuously check their website for the jobs and apply....They have some great jobs....

  • Railroad jobs are great, I went to work for Santa Fe Railway in 1945, in 1947 I became a Fireman and Throttle Jerker on some old Baldwin Steamer and retired as a Brakeman, I didn't like the change to Diesel.

  • Does a misdemeanor automatically disqualify someone from any train position such as switchman/brakeman or engineer & conductor?

  • @dumbheadize No it does not. You can ask questions at our forum.

  • Sean, I am a 21 year old going to a community college in Vermont. I've been to your site a few times, and see every one is getting hired. I would like to hear your opinion. Should I apply now, or wait until I finish school? Thank-you.

  • @MrMCD191 Get your Master's degree at least then decide what you want to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrMCD191 , look into CN,VR, or PanAm, check their websites for the jobs..

  • keep up the good work , in the next few years you will be to sleeply to be on you tube

  • you already got that railroader loook! lol

  • Go on CSX and NS website that's how they hire it takes some time but you will get it.

Sean will tell you a lot of good stuff just don't give up if it is something you really want.

  • Sean I have been with cp for 15 yrs and who are you to give advice to anyone or try to take money for something you have no idea about. The truth is this is a family operation at almost every railway, why dont you try telling people that, its about generations. And I called you a buff because only a buff would do this. Most railroaders consider this just a job.

  • @aleety1 Oh brother... if you knew what you were talking about you would be dangerous. The railroads are NOT a family business. They are multi billion dollar corporations with the exception of the small Class III rr's.

I have helped thousands of people get railroad jobs... how many have you helped? That about sums it up!

  • @aleety1 I am an engineer with CSX for about three years now no one else in my family worked for the railroad i am the first and it not just a job its the best job if i didn't need the money i would do it for free.. Its a great place to work its not the easy to get a railroad job but Sean is helping people that want to get hired i don't see anything wrong with that. Maybe it makes me a buff but i love going to work.

  • @aleety agreed. I got hired at cp just over a year ago through my friends dad. He knew I was laid off and borderline homeless. I have been a family friend of them since I was 4 years old. He got me into the company. I had a series of tests including a psychological evaluation which is not uncommon when working in a saftey sensitive position. Do not try and scam these people out of their money, especially in a time like this, there are people out there who are desperate for any kind of work.

  • Sean I would like to know how long you have been with the railway, and if you came out of that buffy school. You sound like a buffy, where do you work out of.

  • @aleety1 I got hired on with U.P. back in 2004. I doubt you have more time on the rails than I do because you sound like your 18 yrs old....

  • im 17 and i want to be a conductor

  • @3LMUZIKAL Its a hard job to get but if you keep trying you will get it. Working on trains is amazing there is nothing else i would rather be doing.

  • @bill07016 when i lived in mexico we would always go to the park and the train would pass bye and i would just sit there and watch it go by. iv always liked trains man im really looking foward towards this career.

  • THIS FREE PROGRAM IS NOT FREE!!! JUST TO LET YOU KNOW!!!

  • @bdf70 The 5 day email course is 100% free so I do not know what you are talking about. We also sell

an e-book called the Railroad Jobs Guide as well and that is 27 bucks..

  • @RailroadJobs What, mine was $37 :-/

  • great video!!!!! im 16 atm and can't wait to be 18 so i can try and summit for CSX because id love to go work there one day! iv loved trains sense i was small and never stopped loving them!!!!! i want to go work there one day and if you have any advise please by all means help a fellow out!!!! =D and id like to be a conductor or a train engineer but i think id go towards engineer more because i just love to drive those extremely huge locomotives !!!

  • Look people!! You can't just expect to be hired on with no experience ect as a Conductor!! I was Hired in the RR industry as a track Maintainer For Canadian National ( CN) 60K a year with opputunity for advancment In the next year! Is pretty good for a 24 year old!!

  • im 17 and i would like to be a freight conductor.

  • I lucked out and got my job the first time :) The interview process is kinda rough and sean has alot of good insight.

  • I heard to become a locomotive engineer you have to have a B average in your last two years of high school, you have to have a high school diploma or GED, and you have to have taken a training program/college type class to increase your chances of getting hired. True?

  • @NSwannabeEngineer A engineer and conductor training class to be exact.

  • @NSwannabeEngineer To be an engineer with NS you have to be a conductor first. They make you take a mandatory promotion from conductor to engineer.

  • @Johnnyawesome24 also with csx but not for u.p. don't no about bnsf

  • @CNKILLERCLOWN @CNKILLERCLOWN Yes I am the same guy. I was in the car business before I became a RR Conductor... I use a "pen name" on this site so as not to get hassled by the railroad...

  • I didn't know youtube was around in 1920

  • @apeazy I'm pretty sure I never said anything about 1920???

  • Very Helpful! You are a life-saver! You should definitely upload your video to this site, Ewisdomtv

  • he says the early bird gets the worm... well i say

"the 2nd mouse gets the cheese"...

  • most railroad are just to dam picky out there they need worker but wont hire anyone with no eperience took me 14 yr to get on railroad job

  • Srry, im on my phone and can't watch the video but I can comment and I need help: who are the people who collect your tickets when you get on the train, are those conductors? I want a railroad job(lirr only) with no experience neccesary, im 18 female/ny. Any advice appreciated!

  • ya they are conductors

  • @xxSageTUBExx Amtrak is always hiring. Any college also helps. You are young, so you have some time to poke around to see what jobs are open, & get some college in also in that time. I would suggest getting a degree in either the logistics, or management fields if you want to be a conductor/Engineer.

  • Yes, those are Conductors.

  • $, benefits and retirement is good, tho.

  • I'm a conductor of 2 years on the DM&E railroad, and I can tell you (or atleast warn you), T&E sucks. If you want to get into the railroad, look for a job like signal maintainer, section (its like track maintainence, but more... involved kinda?), track inspector, dispatcher, or some corperate dickhe.. I mean... crew caller or something. That way, you're not on call 24/7, you know when you work, when you are going to have a day off, and have ample time to sleep.

Just got called in, no joke.

  • hi sean i am college dropout looking for job in railroad. i love outdoor work, love travelin via railroad, love night shifts just a smuch as day shifts. i am in my early 20's very willing to work hard with my hands. you think i have chance with RR? i applied with BSNF, Amtrak yet. i would love to buy your ebook but i dont have a permanent computer on which i can dowload ebook, however is there any way i can get ebook chapters via email? thanks sean.

  • times are hard now, i almost get in too. ;_;

  • I've been tring to get on with the rail roads for like the better part of 5 years.

  • Now that your product has been utilized in many interviews who's to say that the interviewers are not the wiser? Is there a way to take your info and tailor it a bit to keep them at bay? Can a prospect come off a bit scripted and ruin there chances after spending money on your e-book?

  • You just got to put things in your own words is all...

  • Hey Sean, if you work for a class 1 freight railroad, do they ever give you runs that go for about 700 to 800 miles before having to go back home. I know that sometmes the crew dispatchers make you go on another trip after you've reached your away from home terminal.

  • You jsut work whatever terminal your out of.I worked for BNSF and ran 7 different directions. You go to an away terminal then after 8 off you are subject to call to head back. There are no 700 mile runs adn its not too bad really.

  • What do you mean you worked 7 different directions and what's the longest amount of miles a terminal can be on a class 1 freight railroad. Also what terminal did you work out of.

  • Hi there we had a bunch of lines out of our terminal in Galesburg Il.Or longest run was 323 miles galesburg to KC. most are 200 or so miles some might be a "short Pool" like Gal to Quincy was like 98 miles IIRC.Now my longest run is 235 miles and shortest 120. Its not a bad gig really.

  • I guess that's not to bad, even though I would love to be on a class 1 that has you going about 700 to 1000 miles and then return back to home terminal after 2 weeks. I would love to see class 1 crews run like truck drivers. But from what your telling me it seems a lot more interesting than doing the same exact run for the next 30 years.

  • Oh its never a dull moment lol.Plus once you get some tim there you can pick and choose jobs.Thats the joy of seniority.

  • Your not insinuating that if I were to get with CSX or Norfolk Southern or anyother class 1s of that nature that if I gain enough senority, that I'll be able to choose longer runs are you or even shorter runs are you. If this is what you are saying I see why you would never want to trade your job for anything in the world. Imagine if you could choose a job from Illionois to Los Angeles even though I know they'll never give you a run that long, but would be cool though.

  • That has never happened to me.

  • What has never happened to you?

  • I want become be as conductor or brakeman of Norfolk Southern in Delaware (NS Delmarva Secondary)!!!!

  • sean sean!!! I need help advice... I applied for Montana Rail Link, and Im trying to do anything possible in order to get that railroad job, I bought your book if u want, u can write me to my inbox. I dont have the most impressive experience but Im very very dedicated and I really want to get in the rr industry

    thanks

  • hey sean Im about to enter a job as a border patrol, it sucks because my family practically forced me to get it, but hey im willing to save money and attend Modoc RR Academy to later get a railroad job that I actually want, Im barely 20 and u have to be 24 in order to be able to become an Engineer so whats the hurry right??? jeje thanx for ur book I bought it and Im keeping it for a future, Im not gonna put my mind away from trains. take care sean and ride safe =)

  • i'm also going to be attending MODOC in a few months!

you going for you Locomotive Engineering course as well?

  • any jobs for peole with tattos on forearms thanks

  • Just wear a long sleeve collar shirt to the

    interviews...

    sean

  • hi, sean thanks for the info , mark

  • Hi,can I get into a rail job if I have visible tatoos on my arms I notice some of the jobs people wear long sleeve uniforms thanks for the info, mark

  • Yes you first have to start out as a Conductor.

  • I will personally recommend this to anyone considering train service, who doesn't have a friend in the industry. The value is far beyond the cost to anyone who would qualify but doesn't know where to start. I start at the REDI with CSX in 2 weeks and this was my first try to get in.

  • Good Job! Good luck with your new career!

    sean

  • Thank you. Thank you very much.

  • Hey again Sean...I have been marked up for exactly two months now and having come from 2o+ years in the trucking industry the lifestyle is perfect! The cash is good, the work is easier (I think) and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Lovin my new career. Jerry

  • Sweeeet!

  • duz a big love of trains halp and knowing sum things about them?

  • A little bit but you don't want to sound

like a railfan or foamer at the interview.

    Sean

  • Hey Sean I sucessfully passed the train crew test and I have an upcoming interview with UP at St Louis. Should I give the answers just like the $37 ebook i bought? need advice I really want that job. thanx

    hector

  • Yes give the answers like I showed you in

my e-book. They will greatly boost your

    chances at getting hired!

    sean

  • Im a car toad...

  • Sean I have a test/interview coming up with the U.P. I have gotten confused because on your site you say it is free but yet there is a charge of $37.00. Is there more info with this version that I am not getting with the free version?

  • The email course for 5 days is free... However I have a much more extensive course that I sell as an e-book at the site for the $37 bucks.

    Thanks,

    Sean

  • Hey Sean thanx a lot for your e-mail classes. I have succesfully applied in several places. How long it may take to receive a call from this company I applied for... which is Union Pacific. What company you work for???

  • They will contact you whenever they close out the hiring date.. Sometimes it takes a couple months for them to call you...

    sean

  • If they guarantee an interview at the end

    of the training..

    thx,

    sean

  • hey Sean I ve heard that u need a locomotive engineer certificate. Im trying to get into a railroad academy in Kansas. Does it help a lot more??

  • No you do not need an engineers certificate.. The school in Kansas is good and you don't need any prior certificates..

    thanks!
