Basically... I'm getting nothing for my hard work via Ultrasabers. Despite me spending ~1.5 years trying to build a relationship with them. They're simply using my name to build up their business with Obsidian, good sound, etc.

They have been preventing their customers from finding out the truth by stealing my work (after gaining my trust), and now they banned me from their forum (along with other people who know or support me)... and are essentially treating it all like "business as usual". @greytale I know... I saw the sound fonts for free on their website and I knew something was up because I heard you say on the forums a little while ago that we could buy the fonts at xsabers.com
@DaRTHRevanbeast12 Yeah, they blocked everyone from finding out the truth. They used my name to help build the product, and when they didn't "need" me anymore... they locked me out, kept my work, started RE-NAMING all the font folders (lol, underhanded) and called them "their own" + for free.
Worst part is... if they had simply STUCK TO THE WRITTEN AGREEMENT + honored the fact that I slaved over my fonts for years (they have always been available on CDs since 2007)... we wouldn't be here.

LOVE the rainsizzle font it reminds me of the fight between Anakin and Asajj Ventress in the original clone wars animated series in 05 or 06 because at one point they were fighting in the rain and their saber was sizzling. Overall very nice font. Keep up the good work Nova! Maybe a flange V can have lots of new fonts. I watch ur vids so I know how to operate cf and to see u swing the saber around and I'm a good twirler I've been twirling sabers since I was 3 and I'm 14. But nuff said good job!

@TheBFXfan25 It depends. If you use stock sounds (for example original Ben Burtt ones), and you don't care about "perfect"... it won't take too long, since most of it is already done.
If you're trying to capture a certain "feel" or "mood" with a font... it takes quite a bit longer, since every detail becomes important. And if you're trying to mix it PROPERLY--it is a LOT of work.
Then... you have TOTALLY original fonts... :) Build from scratch = TONS of work...
@TapStar905 I do not have any degrees in EE (electronic engineering), but I did have to learn about soldering, basic electronics, circuitry, and in general what we all like to call "Cram Fu" in order to make everything happen.
At the same time... for those who don't wish to make their own--there ARE "sabersmiths" out there. :) Look on FX-Sabers for more information.

I'm gonna sound like a noob. but what kind of classes do you take in colleges or wherever for maching, soldering, wiring, etc. I want to practice in a school seting before I start these things on my own. don't wanna melt or cut my hand off. :)
@madpinoy5683 I never had any classes or formal education in wiring, soldering or metal work. What I wanted to learn--I learned on my own and by trial and error.
That being said--the correct tools go a ~long~ way... and to make a basic LED saber is certainly not rocket science.
@TheBFXfan25 ... I usually just swap out the electronics on these sabers (they've been consistently modified over the years since 2007 when I first built them with CFv1.2), so it's unlikely that I'd sell them.
Technically, the basic, foundational hilts themselves are not difficult to build though. :)
this is by far the most amazing thing I have EVER had the privilege to see. You do not know how jealous I am of your saber making skills sir. I made a luxeon saber... no sound.. no effects.. just an expensive glow stick. =(
@GeoMiP take your time, take your time, take your time. :)
You start small and build from there, so... you are going in the right direction! Next, try a "basic" sound card from one of the $10 to $30 toys in the store... you know, learn how adding speaker leads and other stuff figures into the equation. Add an "indicator" LED or two. Then, try to get ahold of a Crystal Focus board someday and go with that!
Expensive glow sticks are JUST FINE--especially for kids! :)

@blammers I had to set these up in a custom fashion, but... yes, essentially you can have any three existing Rebel LEDs placed onto the "3-up" PCB star setup, and thus--have whatever combination you like. So "BBW" (Blue, Blue, White) is most certainly possible.
I may even have one of those laying around here somewhere. If I do, you are welcome to buy it off of me!

@NinjaGibson... not many actual "physical" stores for these things as of yet. I don't even know if that will happen in the future.
As far as I know... the only physical store is at Ultrasabers. Granted, the sabers there are quite a bit less "super customized", and none contain the state-of-the-art, top of the line Crystal Focus driver boards.

lol @pink, Princeanakin... well, you'd need an RGB LED to produce the correct mixture for pink... which would be a lot of red and a little of both green and blue I believe...
@Gish... this saber is not for sale, and it's really a "one of a kind" custom saber, built by Don Close (Do-Clo). You can see how to contact him on the video.
As to the "Crystal Focus" driver board that makes everything go bang zoom... they are hand-soldered, specially made boards.
Although a new batch of them (from Plecterlabs) should be coming soon enough... :)

Hey Nova, Do you have all 3 main LEDs running simultaniously? If so, is it possible to set white to flash only on the clash? I'm about to hopefully start on my first custom (got an ultra already) and I'm designing it around how I want the to lighing to work and what electronics I'm going to need.
@ageshero... well... when you get right down to it--light, sound & motion appeal to human nature at a very base level. Film & theatre use them all.
...and there is also the science/technology/skill behind creating these saber props. Many don't even understand that these are ~NOT~ being made by big businesses w/ factories... these DIY-style sabers are being developed by individuals...
...and finally, staged combat is a huge part of the movie biz! Many make their living w/ such things... ;)
Awesome once again NovaStar, and how you did the spin turn while swinging the saber and missed the wall is just incredible. I think the Clash and Lock should be the Sabers standard Blade color or a Mix of White and the Blade Color, but other than that I like it a lot.
Another quick question: What lens are you using on that bad boy? Will a normal 10 degree one work with the 3 LEDs, or are you using a specially made one?

Hi cliff... that's actually a good question. No, unfortunately due to the way the Rebel "3-up" style LEDs are arranged, it would be futile to try a "standard" 10 or 5 degree lens over them.
In this case, modified reflectors were used (Don was kind enough to fashion 3... one for each "Flange" saber).
Sadly, it's not as if they are the MOST efficient things... but then again--the 3-up Rebel setup doesn't allow for the "best" angle of reflection.
Hi Steven... happy Thanksgiving. These particular sabers are custom-made, so they aren't available in any retail store so-to-speak... but if you do some online searching, you'll find some individual sabersmiths that might be able to help you out.
In general, the sabers I build are for my "Balance of Power" live staged combat performances, and other events, demos, etc.
cliff... a type of power extender is necessary on the "flash on clash" portion of the setup. At least for the v3 and v4 boards. This might change for v5.
hey nova is it possible to make the blade lock up flash between red and white? i love the white flash with the clash and blaster block, but when doing a blade lock up with just a white bade just dose not do it for me.
Innovation takes time. And as you may have been able to assess... ... I'm not simply "all about sabers", heheh. :)
Besides, the "always on" white lockup doesn't have to be there--it's a parameter that I tweaked to "1" instead of "0". I hate to be overly crass, but... umm... *RTFM*. v4.3 pdf on Erv's site. :)

I believe the Rebel LEDs are just "plain" red, + plain red + "cool white". As opposed to warm white.
Ultimately, it doesn't really matter though--red-orange can often appear very much like red... if the bin #s end up close enough. For example, bin 6 red-O is essentially bin 1 red.
Hi Ruth... in this case, it's a little of both! Motion detection for "swings & clashes", and an auxiliary button that helps trigger several other events.
Refer to Erv's site, plecterlabs... you'll learn about the features of his "Crystal Focus" board.
My primary field within this project is creating the sound banks/fonts/"personalities" to give the prop very unique usage and to attempt capturing the "essence" of the films or whatever sword-style sound set.

You know when I swing a saber by myself, as you do, Master Novastar, I look like a dork with a cylume lightstick. You on the other hand, make it look graceful and fluid. Love the flash.

Thanks... that's the idea. With any luck, this saber will make its "performance debut" in Balance of Power III. Along with a few other sabers capable of this "clash flash" function.

I just set it that way, because I hadn't tried it yet. The ideal setup would be to have it flicker on/off or something... but it's not possibly (for now) with CF v4.x without special modifications (if at all).
v5 will likely allow for something a bit more robust... ... AS IF THIS AIN'T ENOUGH YET, hahahah :D

i was wondering if you could recommend a few options for me i want to get a could of lightsabers for me and my brother want to put in hyperblade lighting and get other options but i don't know much about the workings and electronics that make the lightsabers. we want to be able to duel with them without breaking them and want them for display as well. please reply with recommendations. ty for your time.

It's too bad that the video really doesn't do it justice. The white flash floods the room pretty nicely with light, and it definitely FEELS like a "movie" saber.

Ironically enough... they really aren't all THAT ideal for LED sabers these days. Especially not the "3-up" one (shown in this video).

@TheBFXfan25 ... I usually just swap out the electronics on these sabers (they've been consistently modified over the years since 2007 when I first built them with CFv1.2), so it's unlikely that I'd sell them.
Technically, the basic, foundational hilts themselves are not difficult to build though. :)

You start small and build from there, so... you are going in the right direction! Next, try a "basic" sound card from one of the $10 to $30 toys in the store... you know, learn how adding speaker leads and other stuff figures into the equation. Add an "indicator" LED or two. Then, try to get ahold of a Crystal Focus board someday and go with that!
Expensive glow sticks are JUST FINE--especially for kids! :)

@lordmaarak It's normally a single, high-powered LED, although in this case... you're seeing 3 separate "dies" (2 red, 1 white)...
They are not easy to destroy--they're almost impervious to damage as far as I'm concerned and have found.

@blammers I had to set these up in a custom fashion, but... yes, essentially you can have any three existing Rebel LEDs placed onto the "3-up" PCB star setup, and thus--have whatever combination you like. So "BBW" (Blue, Blue, White) is most certainly possible.
I may even have one of those laying around here somewhere. If I do, you are welcome to buy it off of me!

@NinjaGibson... not many actual "physical" stores for these things as of yet. I don't even know if that will happen in the future.
As far as I know... the only physical store is at Ultrasabers. Granted, the sabers there are quite a bit less "super customized", and none contain the state-of-the-art, top of the line Crystal Focus driver boards.

lol @pink, Princeanakin... well, you'd need an RGB LED to produce the correct mixture for pink... which would be a lot of red and a little of both green and blue I believe...
A red and white LED setup might work too...

@Gish... this saber is not for sale, and it's really a "one of a kind" custom saber, built by Don Close (Do-Clo). You can see how to contact him on the video.
As to the "Crystal Focus" driver board that makes everything go bang zoom... they are hand-soldered, specially made boards.
Although a new batch of them (from Plecterlabs) should be coming soon enough... :)

Hey Nova, Do you have all 3 main LEDs running simultaniously? If so, is it possible to set white to flash only on the clash? I'm about to hopefully start on my first custom (got an ultra already) and I'm designing it around how I want the to lighing to work and what electronics I'm going to need.

@ageshero... well... when you get right down to it--light, sound & motion appeal to human nature at a very base level. Film & theatre use them all.
...and there is also the science/technology/skill behind creating these saber props. Many don't even understand that these are ~NOT~ being made by big businesses w/ factories... these DIY-style sabers are being developed by individuals...
...and finally, staged combat is a huge part of the movie biz! Many make their living w/ such things... ;)

Awesome once again NovaStar, and how you did the spin turn while swinging the saber and missed the wall is just incredible. I think the Clash and Lock should be the Sabers standard Blade color or a Mix of White and the Blade Color, but other than that I like it a lot.

Hi cliff... that's actually a good question. No, unfortunately due to the way the Rebel "3-up" style LEDs are arranged, it would be futile to try a "standard" 10 or 5 degree lens over them.
In this case, modified reflectors were used (Don was kind enough to fashion 3... one for each "Flange" saber).
Sadly, it's not as if they are the MOST efficient things... but then again--the 3-up Rebel setup doesn't allow for the "best" angle of reflection.
It's hard to explain. :)

Hi Steven... happy Thanksgiving. These particular sabers are custom-made, so they aren't available in any retail store so-to-speak... but if you do some online searching, you'll find some individual sabersmiths that might be able to help you out.
In general, the sabers I build are for my "Balance of Power" live staged combat performances, and other events, demos, etc.

cliff... a type of power extender is necessary on the "flash on clash" portion of the setup. At least for the v3 and v4 boards. This might change for v5.

hey nova is it possible to make the blade lock up flash between red and white? i love the white flash with the clash and blaster block, but when doing a blade lock up with just a white bade just dose not do it for me.

Besides, the "always on" white lockup doesn't have to be there--it's a parameter that I tweaked to "1" instead of "0". I hate to be overly crass, but... umm... *RTFM*. v4.3 pdf on Erv's site. :)

I believe the Rebel LEDs are just "plain" red, + plain red + "cool white". As opposed to warm white.
Ultimately, it doesn't really matter though--red-orange can often appear very much like red... if the bin #s end up close enough. For example, bin 6 red-O is essentially bin 1 red.

Hi Ruth... in this case, it's a little of both! Motion detection for "swings & clashes", and an auxiliary button that helps trigger several other events.
Refer to Erv's site, plecterlabs... you'll learn about the features of his "Crystal Focus" board.
My primary field within this project is creating the sound banks/fonts/"personalities" to give the prop very unique usage and to attempt capturing the "essence" of the films or whatever sword-style sound set.

Video is common in having some "color shift" when it comes to light. Not all cameras are created equal, and mine is certainly no "uber cam".
All of my "red" sabers look red-orange on camera. Although "in real life"... red appears red, lol.
There are such colors as "red-orange" with LEDs, but they mostly appear red to the human eye.
The moral: human eyes are not equal to camera lenses, and vice-versa... :)

I just set it that way, because I hadn't tried it yet. The ideal setup would be to have it flicker on/off or something... but it's not possibly (for now) with CF v4.x without special modifications (if at all).
v5 will likely allow for something a bit more robust... ... AS IF THIS AIN'T ENOUGH YET, hahahah :D

It's too bad that the video really doesn't do it justice. The white flash floods the room pretty nicely with light, and it definitely FEELS like a "movie" saber.
I can say that with perspective now too... seeing as all these years have gone by + our on-going attempts at innovation for LED sabers...
