Transcribe some Wes man! That's what KR did...how bout' bird maybe.....don't matter..you seem to enjoy yourself, so that's what it's about. you go man!
nickoliski in order for one to reach good improv they have to transcribe other great jazz artists solos whether it is sax or guitar, kurt would even say that was one of the ways he became good at improv, no one just pops out of the sky with all these ideas without influence from someone elses playing every new great jazz player, kurt, redman meld, is influenced by their elders
nickplski is very wrong with his comment. As long as improvisation exists others have developed the art of it by copying and likewise spreading the skills. We all may learn from each other. With AlanTraynor I would say: Keep up!
I believe we learn from others, who then inspire us to find, develop and express our own voice in music. Nice job Phenfo, very skillful. Keep us the great work.
I just love it when people copy the emotional projection of an artist and make it a mathematical equation. The trivialization of one's emotion is really inspirational!
FALSE
I understand you are a K.R. fan, and that you love his solos, but a solo is an emotional piece to add to the chord progression/structure of the song. It is the artist's musical reaction from the piece, not a structured melody.
Jazz is about improvisation, not memorized regurgitation.
This is the only time I did this. That's not a solo either...... It's the melody of the song. I'm not trying to be kurt, I don't think I am him, and I don't claim anything about myself. All I did was put this video up because I felt like challenging myself to learn the melody, and thought it was beautiful, so I shared my opinion with everyone by putting it up.
Screw you and your holier than thou attitude, man.
very well put. I like to think that, despite all the hostility that seems to be apparent on yt, the primary purpose is to grow at whatever you do and support others to hopefully do the same. I have faith that most others feel the same.
OK Mr. Badass Critic, show us how it's done. Go on and post your music here and let us look and listen to your genius. We need sooooooooo much enlightenment from you masters. Teach us so we might be better musicians.
hey! nickplski! ..talking of copying emotinal proyection? where do you think u´ve learned talking?.. copying your parents.. thats a natural act... dont be an ass.. theres no best way to learn than copying your favourite artists.. thats not new... but for u.. jajajjajajaja ask any music teacher... and learn something.
@nickplski POST YOUR AMAZING VIDEOS ON JAZZ IMPROVISATION or SHUT THE F#CK UP. Phenfo is a great player with beautiful tone and time and he takes great care with the phrasing and nuance of this very demanding piece - which is a MELODY, not a solo. nickplski - you're trying to tell people what you believe a solo is with WORDS - who the hell are you?? Record and upload something so we can DISrespect you. Fool. Nice playing Phenfo.
Great job man, you've got some real talent there. Speaking of singing, when I listen to K.R. it sounds like there's a human voice singing along with his notes! Check out the Rome video on here especially. Cheers
hey man i love this tune. i am transcribing it but the chords sometime are tricky.. can u tell me the chords of the beginning when is bossa¿? i took the first ones.. but im not sure of the rest..
sounds a bit like some things hermeto pascoal dose tranks for the other vid im searching for new sounds every day, any chance for a chord lesson ? canwe trade some chords at least ?
Listen to hermeto and you will problably not recognize what im saying but with some luck you will.
I really recommendo you to get some of his records, hard to find but worth it. If you download them theres no real problem as he belives music must be something. I own Slaves Mass and it is one hell of a record!
hahah yeah i bought all of them i could find! My favorite songs are: 1. Musica Das Nuvens E Do Chao (from Cerebro) 2. Cadango (from So Nao) 3. Ilha Das Gaivotas (from So Nao) 4. Quiabo (from So Nao) 5. Rede (from So Nao) 6. Garrote (from So Nao) 7. Susto (from Zabumbe) 8. Surpresa (from Brazil Universo) 9. Era Pra Ser e Nao Foi (from Brazil Universo) 10. Celso (from Mundo Verde) 11. Taynara (from Mundo Verde) 12. Renam (from Mundo Verde) 13. Victor Assis Brazil (from Mundo Verde)
Wow, there is some really unique stuff going on in this little excerpt. I like what I've heard so far. I'm a huge Metheny fan...and I think having listened to him makes this Kurt stuff a little more accessible. Any idea of where to hear more of him?
thanks but i really should have played it again without the stupid mistake. lol :) it bothers me. anyway i'm going to post a video of soloing over The Cross soon. That's one of my favorites
Nice flow on the transcription bro... you got the time feel down. I know what you guys are saying. I tried working some stuff out, but abandoned it. Playing it's realatively easy compared to understanding the harmony. I decided to go back to bird for the time being and just listen to this stuff...
If you haven't already, I suggest checking out Intuit and to a lesser extent, East Coast Love Affair, his two non-verve albums. I don't think they're as good as his later releases, but they're mostly jazz standards so you can look up the changes pretty easily, and then analyze what he's doing over them. I find it overwhelming to dive right into Next Step or Heartcore. To me it's kind of like trying Calculus before Algebra.
ohh ok no worries - I admit i don't understand some things that happen yet, but i'm working on it. Keep working and listening. I'm glad you found Kurt because he's a good artist to learn from ( I think).
Oh, sorry man, I think that came out wrong. I didn't mean any offense. I'm just curious, because I have no idea what's going on in Kurt's pieces as far as the progression goes but I love them also. This stuff is pretty dense/deep.
I just finished transcribing this tune. That bridge is a MF!!
Good job though :)

nickplski also needs to realize that this part KR's song is played in unison with the sax - unison improv solo?? i dont think so.
