  • seen too much hetalia...

  • Its me!

  • Ludwig van Beethoven wrote music specially for this cartoon.

  • My nick name and later stage name was derived from this character. I am known as Ludwig in the British Ukrainain community and I am the original accordionist and co-writer of Briish folk rock band "The Ukrainians" I loved this cartoon, usually on when I came home from school in the 1970's. Click on my youtube name to visit my channel /ukrainianmusicvideo

  • Gotta love the old kids tv that was on just before the 6oclock news :) "ALL ABOARD THE SKYLARK" LOL!

  • Thing is my name is Ludwig -.-

  • Brilliant !

  • Along with Simon..."Sunday morning" cartoons, the LSD weirdos of cartoons!

  • Hands up...I do..lol

They don't make them like they used. :D

  • who else is named by ludwig

  • Oh my god!!! This freaked me out too! I was five years old when this was shown and it was the infantile equavilent of being on an acid trip. Just watched it for the first time since 1977 and it still makes me want to scream and run. What is it about it ????!!!!!

  • Aaaaaaaah ludwig, takes me back, close my eyes and can imagine im back there :)

  • I remember it !

  • More on iludwig.co.uk there were 25 episodes, they've just been made available as digital downloads from the orginal films - 3 have never been seen....

  • I'm 45 and the theme song for this has been stuck in my head for the last 35 years. I assume it's by Beethoven but I haven't been able to find exactly which piece it is - somebody please help me!!

  • @maurmi it is Beethoven - it is the theme from the finale of Beethoven's 1st Symphony.

  • "Now, everything is over. The actors leave the stage."

  • @zionravescene

    Ahhh, Orlov!

  • @MrThecarebear "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."

  • I remember this (Im 39) but like a few people have mentioned - I cant remember one episode only the weird egg thing - I never understood it when I was a kid - was it an eastern European import (I seem to remember a lot of "disturbing" european imports of childrens animation when I was growing up (it must have been cheap)!

  • I used to love this show when I was about 10 years old!

  • More please, I used to love this!

  • I remember watching this on TVOntario as a kid!

  • je m'en souviens très bien! cela jouait à tv ontario quand j'étais jeune!

  • ...wtf

  • @strav100 You're right about the PC brigade. I was thinking the same thing myself. Maybe that's one reason this wonderful series hasn't got a DVD release yet. I hope not. I hope it gets put onto DVD soon. The whole series, not just the 10 episodes that's on the VHS.

I've been waiting so long for Ludwig to come to DVD. At least I can find him here on Youtube. But, he's on Facebook now! So maybe things are looking up.

  • not as scary as the learning tree. oddly i can't find any reference to that monstrous mind torture trip.

  • I've been taking acid, and this short clip tells me everything I need to know.

  • yes this was the wierdest thing id ever seen as a kid ,looking for this for ages ,i thought it was black and white

  • Was thinking of this cartoon a few days back. Aaaah the days

  • It's weird, my last name is Ludwig, I have a Ludwig drum-set, and I have a "Ludwig" surfboard...=D

  • @goludwig1 that's my last name too.

  • my last name is ludwig

  • my god i remember this.. tried to explain to so many people my age, and seem like i was the only one who remembered, i think people thought i was making it up..

  • Ah yes, I remember it well - the helicopter egg thing. Another of those scraggy disappointing cardboard cut-outy cartoons like Crystal Tits and Alastair and Captain Pugwash they always used to put on just before the news.

  • oh yeah i'd forgotton this until now

  • my name is ludwig lol (:

  • Ludwig Von koopa

  • I remember this. I thought I was the only one. Cool!

  • omg I remember this and I loved it!! "Ahhh Ludwig"... I have no idea what they thought they were doing but it was fantastic

  • omg ludwig aus svz oder was xDD

  • When I was a kid I did not like this. Now I'm older and watch it again, now I think. Its utter bollocks.

  • Ludwig was quite clever in making all sorts of repairs, and being a gifted multi-instrumentalist. He delighted in entertaining his animal friends. As a child, back then, I found him cute and comforting. Ah, Ludwig!

  • Ah, well thank you. ( :3

  • Another series imported to Captain Kangaroo.

  • okay...so weird...my first name is Ludwig 0___0 no lie lol. this is too funny!!

  • Respect the egg that is Ludwig... i remember this and remains one of my favourites

  • I remember!!

  • That's right bitches! L-U-D-W-I-G. Respect that shit you douchebags.

  • peanut with binoculars in deerstalker outfit watches crystalline egg play violin - lol

  • ahhh ludwig

  • The generation who watched this as children later became the Acid House generation swallowing dangerous amounts of mind bending chemicals on an almost daily basis.

    Coincidence? I think not.

  • I'm the same as well, I don't remember an episode, just the program about an egg. It's weird that I knew it had something to do with classical music though I was only young :P

  • Jojoseahorse, Im the same. I have no recollection of any of the episodes, just a memory of a weird egg. I also remembered it had classical music, but that was about it. Thanks slickhanded!

  • He was such a peeping tom, always spying on everyone!

  • was he a Fabarge egg?

  • Holy shit, finally I've found it! I told the kids I used to nanny for in NY about him (I'm from Scotland so they had never heard of it), and now I can share it with my own kids :) Funny thing is, all I remember is the awesome title sequence - I couldn't actually remember what the hell he did in the show LOL

  • it was SO bizarre, but fun. I used to see this on Captain Kangaroo....when my niece and nephews would watch it. I loved this cartoon.

  • I used to like this show a lot!

  • The Violin player has all the music abilties of TC Raymond. None!!

  • any one know what year this was?!

  • 1977 I think

  • this freaked me out as a child and still does , ahhh ludwig ahhhhhhh!

  • Far more intelligent and creative than the corporate garbage thrust into children's minds today.

  • If by "creative" you mean "drug induced", then yes, I agree.

  • yesssssssssssss my name isssssssssssssssssss ludwig ( ya thats tru) xDDD ahhh ludwig xDDD

  • Damn classic if there ever was one ! Was one of my favourites programs from the pre early evening news slot.

  • This one was pretty strange. The thought of a stationary object like an egg that has a trap door in it and can take out all kinds of things from within itself was a pretty foreign concept for me. Even as a small child I really didn't understand it.

  • I think it calls for a little blind faith and the suspension of disbelief on the part of the viewers.

  • The music for this show was composed by Ludwig Von Betovheen.

  • All episodes are available in file sharing.

  • ahhh are they??? right then im off to torrent roflmao

  • it was definitely weird

  • wonderful! I used to love this programme. I also found a Ludwig badge, on a site called badgechic. I wear it on my bag!

  • Oooh i remember him too, i've thought a lot about him but for some reason today was the 1st time i actually thought to check on here...duh! Brilliant, shame it's only a short clip, but worth it all the same :D

  • Ludwig ist krieg!!

  • I remember TVOntario showing Ludwig back then. The animation is by Mirek Lang, who was responsible for the cuckoo clock sequences on Vision On.

  • thank you for the recall. I too watched it on TVOntario. I wonder if Magic Shadows with Euwi Yost (sp?) is on YouTube too ... hmmm.

I also recall a show that had a fast-paced cartoon title sequence of animals melding into one another - lizard to bird, etc. Can you recall the title?

  • I had to jog my memory a bit, but I think you are thinking of 'Stationary Ark' with zoologist Gerald Durrell.

  • I was a child of a year and a half old when this came on TVOntario so thanks. :)

  • EBAY! Expensive to get, but worth it - bought the VHS and love it. Surreal childhood brought back to life in one fell swoop...

  • these are available on VHS somewhere, my friend bought it from a pound shop once and we watched it loads after a j or two. very surreal. don't know where to get them from, but they exist! don't give up hope!

  • What nostalgy! Yeah, this was a cartoon for me, I was a Beethoven freak at the time. I'd like to know the story behind who made this cartoon, and how he/she got approval of the BBC upper management. Bet they were fan of Beethoven too...

  • i will write to them too let start a ludwig revolt

  • where can i find the rest of these cartoons he was my hero and no one knew about him

  • Ha ha, he's my hero too! Don't know ANYWHERE that has the full versions. (Believe me, I've looked and looked and better looked) I feel like writing to the BBC and requesting that they show it again!
