  • I am always told pedalite for my son

  • yah she suggested that for my son incase he got sick w/ what we had over the weekend while their office was closed, but my he doesn't take bottles, refuses so it wasn't an option. and my daughter won't drink it, BUT she will eat the popsicles, :)

  • Yea under 1 year old honey can cause botulism so she can have honey since she is over 1. Ella is almost 7 months old and doesn't have any teeth yet lol

  • Hi, Im pretty sure honey has an antibacterial property to it. They use honey to heal wounds in some medical wards. I would try to make some warm water with honey and try to get her to drink that. Honey also coats the throat if that is sore. I would probably steer clear of milk products if she has alot of mucous. Milk increase the viscosity of the mucous membranes making it harder to shift. It doesnt however produce more mucous. I would try to get her to drink loads of water! Good luck xxxxx

  • First, he is ADORAB LE! And for warm liquids, hot chocolate, warm broths, tea, basically anything you can drink warm...warm milk (that will help her sleep to ;)

  • i heard that honey for a baby under 15 months is not good for them.

  • She's 20 months

  • @angebu24 actually it's not bad at all, just a tiny bit every day, like dab it on your finger tip and put your finger in her mouth. I've been doing it to my own son since he was 2.5 months old

  • yea sleepytime tea is good for night time. and try heated up apple cider. hope they both feel better!!!! oh and put some honey in the tea

  • It's no fun when they are sick :( I hope they get better soon! When our kids are sick, we just give them cold liquids because it's what they prefer anyway. As long as they are drinking I think that is all that matters. Take care! I'm glad they don't have the flu.

  • cont'd from other comment ;) ... you add in two drops of oil of oregano & a capsule of garlic oil. You just put this in the ear with a cotton ball & some hospital tape (doesn't hurt to take off) & change it every few hours for a few days. The infection gets taken care of @ the root & your system can avoid the whole wipe out of good/ bad bacteria that antibiotics does. Ginger/peppermint teas are good for drying up mucous, so may be a good idea for colds..of course lemon/honey also. Good luck!

  • Hi there, I just wanted 2 talk about the ear infection you were mentioning. My daughter used 2 get them also, & I have a real aversion 2 antibiotics, unless it is very necessary. So, I did some research & found that u can use ear oil (common @ health food stores) &

  • thanks for the tip. I avoid med's and especially antibiotics.

  • Hi, I've never commented before but I love your videos. I do have a suggestion for this question, you could try a little bit of lemon juice and some honey in warm water. When I was little my mom would make it for me when i was sick. It's good for a sore throat. Hope you all feel better soon!

  • Get apple cider mix they are warm and she should like them they are not for colds or anything but if the dr just said warm liquids then I would try that and hot chocolate or even just warm up what she normally drinks

  • I cant remember the brand but everytime I get a cold I drink Gypsy cold care tea and use honey to sweeten it.. it works wonders!

  • when i was a kid my mom gave me a table spoon of honey with salt (not too much) and lemon ( 3 drops) it works for a sore throat and cough it works for me and my nephew

  • For Jace I would suggest warm tea with honey in it. But you´re not supposed to give honey to a kids that is less than 12 months of age. At least that is what I know. But Kacen is getting warm liquid with every feeding. The milk he gets is 37° C warm. How much more warm liquid should he get?

I hope that I could help you hun!

  • The warm liquids was just for Jacelyn.... Kacen doesn't take anything but breast milk from the breast. She had assumed we were giving hims solids or a bottle at the very least and suggested pedalyte since his sister is sick to help him not get her cold, or at least nip it in the butt if he did, but like I said, he REFUSES a bottle and anything u use like a spoon or dropper to give liquids he chokes and gags on it till it comes back out (we tried w/ breast milk) lol

  • I really just hope that they both get better soon and that Kacen dosen´t get Jace´s cold! I caught a really bad cold as well. My throat hurt so bad that I can´t speak or swallow! So bad!

  • Ouch ur not still sick r u? I hope he doesnt either, we r trying to b as careful as possible, I am sick now though 102 temp

  • sorry 2 hear u n ur family is sick hope u guys feel better :)

  • I am! But slowly getting better! ´The bad thing is the cough and in relation my voioce! I sound like brother bear! :o)

Hope you get better soon! All of you!

  • my daughter has croup! its just a sore throat like in her voice box her doc said! but we were just told lots of liquids and popsicles! and he said to make a steam room in the bathroom for 20 minutes then let her breathe in some cold air for a few minutes afterwards! not sure if that helps you or not! sorry!

  • I suggest tea. Health benefits and all...

  • and the honey thing is only for 1 and under not 2! :)

  • The honey, 1 and under is because if you give a child honey before then, it can cause botulism. I don't know why, probably cause their systems cant digest it right, but if she is 20 months she is fine. I have had to give my son honey before and i just warmed it up a little in the microwave and let him suck it out of a spoon, or a medicine dropper. Warm liquids like warm chicken broth, and decaf tea, even warm apple cider, stuff like that should help! Hope they feel better soon! :)

  • OOPS! i didnt mean 1/2 teasp. i mean 1/2 TABLEspoon! i dont think it really matters it will dissovle a little into the warm tea.. :o]

  • botulism is a bacteria that babies can not digest the germs and it will make them really sick. once a child is 1 years old their immune system can digest it, so Jace should be fine to have honey. i would just put a 1/2 teaspoon in her tea and stir! they have tons of diff. teas at wal mart that are even great for kids, one called sleepy time tea it has a bear on it and i think its made by celestial seasonings. i loved it as a kid w. honey!!

  • No honey! I'm pretty sure that's really bad for babies under 1 year. Google it. :)

  • She is 20 months old

  • a 1/4 cup or less of warmed up lemon juice with honey does wonders for me! For adults a little bit of whisky (just a splash) added to that is even better. You could always do warm milk. They also have herbal teas that are for when you are sick I think I've seen them at Albertsons???

  • oh my goodness henry and kacen are so much alike! is he chewing on his thumbs? that's like a constant for my little teether!

  • i agree with becky on the cider. i'm not sure about the honey...i have always heard it could cause botulism (sp?) in babies, but maybe jace is old enough to have it.

  • could cause whaaat? lol

  • I think honey is ok after the age of 2. Which Jace isnt yet I dont think? But shes more than likely close enough.

  • She's 20 months. Whats the or deal w/ honey?

  • honey can carry botulinum spores...which an infant can not inactivate in their immature intestines. That puts an infant at risk for Botulism. This toxin travels through the blood to attach to the nerves that control muscles. From several hours to a week after eating contaminated food, the person may get sick. .. I think it makes you sick kind of like food poising but worse because it attacks your nervous system. You can get it in other things too.

  • nope I was wrong lol .. I checked .. its safe after 1 year old. So yeah the Dr. was right.

  • I personally love lemon tea with honey when I'm sick! Also warm apple cider is good, or even just warm water with lemon juice... Hope everyone feels better soon! I also have a question, was it hard to get your children to breast feed? I'm due with my first child in May and my biggest fear is that I wont be able to figure out breastfeeding and it is super important to me!!

  • My daughter took to the breast like a pro at first. But once we introduced a bottle things got worse. Then came biting and other issues. It was much easier at first with her. So different w/ my son! He didn't want to eat at first, he wanted nothing to do with the breast. Come to find out, he just wasn't hungry. (We never offered anything BUT the breast) luckily he refused a bottle, so he's still breast only at 4 months and things are getting easier by the day.

  • My kids always loved warm broth in a cup (like chicken noodle soup broth).

  • I would be interested too in knowing. My daughters doctor when she had a cold a few weeks ago told us the best thing for her was to buy 100% natural apple juice and to warm it on the stove or microwave. She actually enjoyed it and it helped.

  • lol thats what we tried first too....she wanted nothing at all to do with it, refused & yelled no no no momma. no yah she was not a fan of it at all

  • Has Jace ever had Honey? If not give her a little first in case she's allergic. But simply add the honey to the tea " Lipton" Or you can mix a teaspoon of lemon with a tablespoon of honey and give it to her to soothe and coat her throat.

  • i wouldnt suggest honey

  • honey is a noNo.

  • chamomile tea!

  • omg I wrote this long message on what to do...dang youtube...Ill write you on myspace and let you know!!

  • for the ear infections mix equal parts alcohol and vinegar into a container and put 2-3 drops into each ear. REALLY works and is totally safe! Also give Jace some warm juice or cocoa. No milk products for congestion though. Also if any of you are getting congestion boil an onion and with an ace bandage tie it to your chest for about an hour, make sure the onion is still really warm but not scolding hot. I am very surprised also that the dr said honey since Jace isnt 2 yet, or is she...man if

  • Hi there.:) I love hot apple cider!!! It comes in instant packets. just mix into hot water. They have regular and sugar free. Give it a shot:) It's pretty sweet so you could probably delute it quite a bit also. Find it in the tea isle. talk later

  • I would say hot apple juice or hot chocolate. Tea is good with honey but I don't know if kids actually like tea. Good Luck and I would call the doctor if you can't think of any good options. I would also just suggest soups...

  • Hi Lucy.Weak tea with honey and lemon (lots of vitamin C what is good for boost of imunite system)is excelent remedy for cold.Hope your kids get better soon.:)

  • camomille tea- thats what we do and what my parents did when i was small. :) AND add honey. (that gives it the sweet they love and makes it easier to get down)

OR.. boil GInger (FRESH) and mix with tea and honey (ginger is SOO good when sick) I learnt that from our vietnamese guard as a teenager. HE then placed the whole pieces of ginger on m chest. and i drank the mix.

OR.. warm honey, lemon ( make it a sirup) That was an advice from a braslien friend. :) Hope i am some help. :)

  • tea with honey...cinnamon tea probably tastes better than any other tea. cinnamon sticks are available anywhere. warm chicken broth usually helps as well. hope they feel better!

  • warm water with honey is good. when i get sick i drink honey lemon with hot water.

    hope she feels better!

  • I would recomend warmed up apple juicy or even cranberry thats what I used for my daughter when she was sick.

  • Raw honey & unpasteurized apple cider is usually considered a no-no for babies b/c their digestive systems are immature. Green tea w/ honey has a small amount of caffeine, so it could be very helpful. I would add the honey 1st, then bring the water up to temp. Adding the tea bag last, so any microbes would be destroyed. Warm pasteurized apple cider vinegar mix w/ water would probably be easy for him.

  • If you haven't introduced him to chocolate, I probably would hold off on the hot cocoa. I wouldn't want discover an intolerance while battling a cold & fever. Prepackaged Organic Chi tea drinks have a little more caffeine than green tea but are very soothing. Some are milk-based, others are soy-based; fine if there's not a previous allergy--I suspect there isn't since he's breastfed.

  • YES!!! Herbal teas are great..look for Echinacea tea. They have some really great herbal teas out there that actually taste good AND you can sweeten them w/honey Echinacea strengthens your immune system and really helps i give it to my kids when they are sick . Most herbal teas are decaf but make sure you check If you can get her to drink it Lemon juice w/ honey mixed in is great heat it up just a tad and just give her a spoonful every few mins. No dairy though, it makes the congestion worse!!

  • I find that warm water with melted honey is the best and natural. It helps sooth the throat. You can also squeeze in some lemon.

Hope your babies get better soon!

  • yeah i'd say fruit tea with honey over warm juice then it'll have less sugars

  • *A warm bath or shower helps loosen a stuffy nose

*Honey-more effective then cough medicine(didnt say how to consume it though)

*Drinks-offer cubes of jello or popsicles.

  • the celestial seasoning tea's are gr8! hope they feel better!

  • Hey Lucy,i would highly recommend Chamomile tea. It's an herbal tea non-caffeinated its very mild with a lot of healing properties i'm 99% sure you can get it at Walmart. You might want to just take a moment and google it. Good luck!

  • warm chicken/beef broth always works for me..comes in a can or carton...i go with the one that says low sodium... :) hope this helps

  • Hot Chocolate?

  • Kacen is so big and such a smiley baby. I hope they feel better soon hun! I've heard your nto supposed to give a baby honey before the age of 1 due to bacteria or something that can damage their brain. Again that's just what i've heard but I suppose if the dr. sent it; it's ok.

  • Kacen is such a cutie pants !!!! Hes getting SO big !! I love him to bits!

Add honey to the hot drink you end up giving to Jace. I would think some lemon tea ( no caffeine) would be best.

Also chicken broth is great for her as well!

  • Wow, Kace is getting so big and cute! He's got such a sweet voice too, I love it!

Warm liquids- hot cocoa is always a favorite with kids. Or just get cider or apple juice and warm it up in the microwave. If you water down the juice and add honey, it won't be too sweet (or have quite as much sugar in it). Tea is also good, but so is just some warm water with honey.

The honey should be added to some hot liquids to gently coat the throat and protect it. Hope this helps! Good luck!

  • I'm thinking just warm water or regular juice warmed up...if she throws up or has the runs give her small amounts of gatorade/pedylite (don't know if thats the same in the states?) it will help to keep her hydrated. Hope this helps! Hope they feel better

  • Any hot tea will work and it needs to be decaf you can get it at walmart. there are some boxes that have about 30 bags in it for about 3 dollars or so.

  • You can just give a teaspoon of honey...it will help with cough and sore throat.

As for the warm liquids, Milk is a good one...but since she has a fever you might be careful with that. You can try warm Juice!

  • How about a hot lemon drink with some honey in it? OR---you could give her an herbal tea with a bit of lemon in??

Hope she LIKES lemon--not to mention honey!LOL!

All I know about honey is---my grandmother gave me a spoonful at a bout age 4 for a sore throat! I ended up with a thick dollop of GOO in my mouth and I threw it up!! NEVER have liked honey since that day!! So--I don't recommend giving her the honey straight off the spoon!!!

  • even before you said it, I was going to suggest herbal tea, just get it at the supermarket. I would add the honey and give her some on a spoon too :)

  • Jello is what I was told. Warm.

Warm tea is what I'm drinking now with honey.

Hope your family gets better soon!!

  • you add a teaspoon of honey to warm herbal or fruit tea's, jacelyn may prefer the fruit flavoured ones, or you can try hot water honey and real lemons in it, i used to have that as a child when i had a cold it worked for me. Also give her chicken soup she will be back to her lovely self real quick xx

  • warm liquids: to help sore throat, i suggest to boil water, add honey and fresh squeezed lemon juice and give it to her once warm. another good one is if u can fine a herbal tea with just "thyme" in it- this is very good for getting over the cold (if she doesnt like the taste, just add some honey to it). And lastly Cardamen seed is another good one, if u can find a tea made from this its very very good. im sure you'll be able to fine those herbal teas in any pharmacy. good luck

  • Honey is a natural sweetner so adding it to the warm liquid (warmed juices) may make it more palatable for her. My doctor recommended a teaspoon of honey straight off the spoon to help soothe coughs but not for babies though. Hope Kacen feels better soon, ear infections are nasty, my son (19 months) gets them a lot, and well wishes for your little princess of course.

  • warm water (bottle or sippy cup depending the age)with honey like 1 tsp and you can also add lemon it works great!! i use it all the time for my 2 kidos which are 3 yrs and 1 yrs old!!

  • I give my kiddies hot squash, with honey but u shouldn't give honey if they're under a yr old. Mine also like very weak milky tea. Its very British. Both mine are diseased right now as am I so we look awful! My poor husbands being nurse maid! lol Kace is scrummy! Teething or not hes sooo cute!

  • i used boiled water

of course leave it cool to warm

and then put a spoon of honey in it

of course its an acquired taste

but natural sugars in honey are great

    give it a try

  • My daughter had a cold few weeks ago and I think the best things is the breastmilk, that's already lots of liquid. I add the honey in the tea, I tried giving it to her few times but she didn't like it.

  • OK, firstly the warm liquids for Jacelyn, I dont know if you have ever tried to get her to eat soup? Chicken soup/broth is good when you are sick. The herbal teas I am not sure of, some brands sell herbal teas spceifically for kids, maybe try one of those, then you know they will be safe for her. Here in South Africa we have something called Red Bush tea, which a lot of babies grow up drinking. This is very mild, and goes VERY well with honey. Or you can just mix some honey in with hot water.

  • Hi Lucy! Not sure if anyone's suggested honey and fresh lemon together in boiling water and let it cool and that is very good for sore throats &/or colds. Hope they feel better soon! :)

  • you should not give babies honey! look it up on the internet. never allow a baby to eat honey. Why? Because for babies less than a year old it may contain poison in the form of botulism-causing bacteria.

  • I always just give them warm tea with honey inside the tea. Just get warm water from the faucet add a tea bag and some yummy honey and hopefully she will drink it. She might not since its a new liquid. I hope the kids feel better soon. :)

  • look at those chubby lil legs hard to pay attention to wat u saying with that little cute smiling and cooing god hes a cutie

  • i dont know if honey is pasturised in the us, but in denmark it is not recomended to give honey to a child that is lees than 1 yar old, becourse of the Clostridium botulinum bacterie. just a little FYI. i hope they get better soon
