But one day i just closed my laptop, still working properly, and it went off, i went to sleep. But the next day when i opened my laptop it had white stripes vertical and blue stripes vertical. And there was no possibility of seeing the normal screen, just the stripes.
Is this a hardware problem, or something burned into my graphics part of the laptop? Or is it a cable not working, like on this video? Please help me..
Hi, i'm having a way worse problem than probably any of you with a white screen, or a flickering screen.
I once let samsung nc10 fall and after that it had a somehow purple screen (still able to see the main screen properly), and if i stretched the laptop out the the max i could still use it without any display problems.
Excellent video! Many many thanks for these clear instructions! I fixed the white screen within 30 minutes...Maybe another tip: I noticed the wire from the motherboard to the screen was squeezed a little at the folding point from the base and the screen part of the laptop. By pulling out the cable slightly (there was room in the base/motherboard part, be careful of course!!), the squeezed part or the wire was now 'unpressured'. After that the screen works perfectly, after many tests. THANKS!!
Great video thanks! I am going to try this tonight but have bought the new cable from Ebay for about £15. Hopefully will work with these instructions, thanks!
Just followed your video and now my netbook is working better than it has done for (literally) months! I fiddled with the cable and then used a piece of electrical tape to hold the cable up out the way of the screen frame when closing it. No problem, all done and tidied away within 10 mins. Brilliant! Just saved 75 quid! Cheers.
After watching your (excellent) video and before doing any dismantling, I tried simply squeezing the display all along the bottom edge with the idea of re-seating the ribbon cable. It has worked! (But for how long?). The tiny electrical arc noise someone else here mentioned (short circuit sound) has disappeared and my display is stable with no white screen.
It might be a good idea to try squeezing before you dismantle your NC10. It has worked for me (so far).
Following the video carefully solved a problem that's been driving me potty for over a year. And if a techno-dummy like me can do it, anyone can..
My biggest problem was removing the screws. They had been machine-tightened and it took an age.
When everything was in pieces, I noticed that the original tape holding what appearedto be the main cable was loose. A wee strip of selotapetape seems to have done the trick.
Everything's back together now and working like new. Many, many thanks. Neil
I've been performing this repair on my girlfriend's N120 a few times now (I think this will be the third time in 8 months or so. Has anybody figured out a permanent fix? It's easy enough to do and it does hold up for a few months each time but it's still annoying.
This fixed the white screen problem on my out of warranty NC10 :)
Like Universalspezialist, once I'd dismantled it, the problem went away, and I couldn't make the white screen reappear, even by fiddling with the cable.
For info, a few 2-5mm fragments of black plastic appeared on my towel, but it all fitted together fine. I guess they were edges left over from a less than perfect plastic moulding during manufacture? Perhaps part of problem? I don't know.
i tried this when it happened first time. i could even hear the noise of short circuit,i tried to stick it and that worked for about two month, but after that the problems started come over again. so now i decided to buy new cable(i found they cost only 8 pounds on ebay now).I hope this will help for longer time.
Thank you so much for this. saw all the forum posts all quoating outnumberd on how he fixed it, but i wasn't really sure. now i feel confident to give this a try :P
Just did this today. It works. Before I repaired it, the only way I could get rid of the white screen was to push the monitor all the way back, and even that didn't work every time.
I really hope that this fix will last for a long time! I just hate that white screen of death, and I love my NC10.
i've had this annoying problem since summer last year and pc world quoted me £229 to repair it!! I did this today following your video!! thank you so much! really easy, if anyone has the same problem give this a go! just make sure you put the brightness up to the max so you know you've fixed the problem.
I have never tried any repair on a computer before - this was a first! Even easier than the video as I did not have the sticky pads to cut loose. Make sure you take off the battery - I forgot and realised half way through. Thanks for this - brilliant!

thanks very much - it was much easier than i thought it would be - only took about 15 minutes and like another poster earlier, I am now an 'amazing dad'!
Thanks, great video, walking home 4 weeks ago with my netbook in my ruck sack and slipped on ice, screen was gone, £45 and your guide later my netbook was back up and running, thanks very much.
to clarify, the ribbon cable is very snug to the actual lcd screen. If you gently peel this away while ensuring that the cable doesn't touch any of the metal on the lcd screen, this should stop future white screens from occurring. This wasn't too hard at all. Just take your time and do small movements. Don't force anything.
FYI, you can DO this while watching the video. I plugged my laptop in with the AC power adapter and begin following this video step by step. I was able to dismount the screen and discover the problem. The glue that holds the ribbon cable touches the metal backpart of the lcd screen, creating a "buzzing" sound which also causes the lcd screen to go white. After poking it with a screw driver and separating it a little, I did not encounter any problems. Followed the reassembly steps and done!
I'll be giving this a try over Christmas, thanks for the video. My screen has been giving me problems for ages but it has now become irritating enough for me to attempt a fix.
You're a legend! - followed this to a tee, got daughter's NC10 back up & running (now she can see facebook properly!) and I'm a hero...! Great video, will do again if reoccurs.
Great tutorial, I've just unmount the display cover as showed in the video and I finally solved my problems.. No more white screen! So far, my display is working good..
lol, my laptop fell and this happened too, all you have to do is turn the brightness down to lowest level, and twist screen sometimes, or just buy new cable :p
This fix works for a while. I have done this twice with my NC10 in the last 6 months, and you'll see some improvement for a few weeks before the problem starts to return I think it is caused by the way the video cable is pinched by the hinge. Massaging the cable removes the pinches. These days I leave my NC10 only semi-closed (to create more space for the cable) and I've ordered a replacement cable (£28!) which will hopefully fix the problem permanently. Thanks for the video!
The problem occurs at the bend of the cable, where the hinges are. This is not a repair, but the short-term placebo. It is mechanical damage to the cable and massaging it will not do anything because the problem will return. Massaging you do not remove the mechanical damage to the cable. I know what I say because the cable repaired.
@hejkumkejkum2 I suspected that the wires become brittle at the hinge where they are bent all the time. If this is the case, moving another part of the cable to the problematic spot should buy some time.
Time will tell how much time this gets, my unit has been working flawlessly for 4 weeks now.
@hejkumkejkum2 Maybe...but the thing was badly built in the first place for this to happen. My NC10 is working again now after watching this vid. At worst it's back to the original state where it fails anyway after so many hours of use.
grazie di cuore! E' bastato riposizionare il flex seguendo la tua guida e tutto è tornato perfetto. Bye from Italia

keano754 1 month ago
Hmmm... can't be a burn-in because the NC-10 has an LCD screen and these don't burn in.
Probably some sort of HW problem. If opening the lid to max position helped, I think this might be a problem with the cable.
Maybe try the cable trick shown in the video. If fiddling with the cable helps, maybe you find a cable position which works permanently.
Be careful though, this will void your warranty and may make an existing hardware problem worse if you overdo it. So try at your own risk.
