Great bike. Almost bought one about 25 years ago. Was an early 70's Commando 750. And love your centerstand. Don't make 'em like that anymore. Classic sound
Just bought a new Bonneville. Maybe if I win the lotto I can get the new Nortom lol
@828cc The T100 just had it's 500 mile service done today so some BC Sleepers may be in order. And I loved the vid so much,...I became a subscriber. Might be the beer!
Hello all - I live in the states and I'm real close to buying one but I need a little help; I'm not averse to working on something but I've got no experience or tools. I've got some friends that could help me get started in that sense but my real concern is finding parts over here and the relative cost for those parts. I've got jack shit income but I'm looking at a running, good shape '72 at the moment for 4k. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
Spares are not a problem. I've just rebuilt my 850 Commando after owning it for 35 years. Spares today are readily available and relatively cheaper than they were back then. Quality though is generally poorer.
nice bike. my dad was the first one in denmark to buy a norton comando 750. he got some speciel papers beside the normal papers on the bike he was the first one to get a 750 in denmark
I do love the interstate. In my humble opinion, the most beautiful bike ever built. The shape of the tank is a work of art. I went to Norton Owners Club rally once, there were about 20 interstates (mostly Mk.IIIs) lined up...a beautiful sight. I live in hope of owning one...someday. Scears is right, mechanically, they had some problems. Ahhhh, but, aesthectically, very difficult to find better.
Yeah, you're right, Anth. It was that kind of engineering screw-up that was major factor in the death of the British motorcycle industry. Rather than designing a new engine, they just tried to dampen the vibration of the old one.
I bought an Interstate in 1976 but when my best mate turned up on a brand new Kawasaki 900 a month later and allowed me to try it out I suddenly realised why the British motorcycle industry was doomed to failure. The Norton was basically and brand new "vintage bike". Kawasaki knew what they were doing. Sad but true...........
I had an identical bike - my pride and joy was beautiful! Then I sold it to get married & now I'm divorced. Yes! You have my permission to kick me up the a**!!!
my dad have a norton commando. mint condision. he bught it new when he was young. don`t know what mod, looks like yours but more road racing style handelbars.
Anth, How true. Can anyone out there help me out with a repro seat for my 74 Mk11 850 Roadster? The ebay guys from the UK want $60USD to ship to New York!
Thanks for posting this! I prefer just the music from the Noggin, louder! LOUDER!!!!
I had the 750, which I gas flowed etc etc.
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOEEEEEEEEEEEEE. It cost too much in washing powder!! The 850 had plenty of GRUNT, but the early 750s with 11:1 comp, gas flowed heads and 30mm carbs (Mmmm, smaller is better with 750s) really fly off the lights. Cheers! Brylcreem, anybody?
YEEEEEEEEEEEHHHAAAAAAA! Castrol R. Nature's way of telling you that life IS worth living!
Vibes...don't remind me. I used to do car bodywork as well as ride British bikes - so I developed white finger. Now all I can ride is a Bm K75. To be fair, I can ride that 200 miles at a stretch, even in winter. I could never do that on the proper bikes! By the way, do you get a weave at around 40/80, or 45/90? If so, reduce the front tyre pressure by about 8 PSI. It took me years to discover that!
Yes....they are certainly smooth on the bends! Vernier, I assume? You know Castrol R (castor oil) is a very good rubber lube? If you lube the washers you can nip it up a bit, and everything is a bit better. Y'know, I can'y remember me own name sometimes, but I can remember all the old Commando wrinkles!! Cheers, Chris.
perfect kickstarting technique nice bike --anybody wishing to learn the kickstarting technique should study this video --

They went wrong by making it an 850 which caused vibration which meant Isolastic mounts which ruined the handling. Cheers, Anth :-)

Quite agree, the Commando is a good bike but it was dated even when new, they do sound a lot better than a Z900 though :-)
