Just wanted to say I am a big fan of this movie. I noticed between 2:12 and 2:13 it appears as if an "inkdropper" is adding something to the whirlpool mix. The yellow "ink" splotch starts at the upper left of the frame and rotates counter-clockwise to the bottom left. Anybody know anything about this or cloud tank effects in general?
when the rocket, of Flash, Dale and Zarkov, going in the the wirl pool, is like going in the red spot of jupiter. Jupiter is the only planet closes to Mongo, it's many moons, it colorful clouds, and atmosphere explains that there is a world like Mongo, out there and is jupiter, cool! but Jupiter in reality, is to far, it's -200 degrees below zero, and it high pressure, and gravitation pull, will kill them.
I have seen this film a whole stack of times and I never understood how Zarkov could just launch himself, Flash and Dale into space without any sort of real plan what so ever. I remember Ming even comments on this himself.
He didn't have enough information to have a plan! Had to go up, do a reconnaissance, and hope he could come up with a plan on the spot. And no doubt he took great comfort in the Saturday night special in his pocket! (snort)

Great drum roll, great sound track, a cheesy b-grade movie yet done so well one of my all time favorites.
