@affcplayer5 Don't listen to idiots, hon. As long as you're comfortable with your weight and do nothing weird to sustain or reduce it, you're fine. Lots of people wish they would be thinner and more fit, but they just lack the will power. So instead, they try to make fun of thin ones and encourage us to gain some weight, lots of weight. Makaronas202, of course she is too young to be able to understand & explain what caused it, the doctor knows as well as any person who's studied child development that this is the case. 1: plz anyone who wants to lose sone weight, DON'T CRASH DIET! It can kill you, do small amounts of excise an don't stop eating the things you love just eat less of it.
2: when I was 8 I was spinning circles and walking into Walls. I had no idea what an eating disorder coz I did (and still do) love food xxx
Why do her parents LET her read those magazines and watch those shows then? If the parents had told Dana that she was perfect the way she was, that the media is BS, and that they love her no matter what, this would probably not have happened. Also; an 8 year old wearing makeup and with a phone? No way she decided to do that without outside influence.
That is an extremely unhealthy family. The siblings are very eager to point fingers, the mother doesn't want to delve into her daughter's problems, and Dana herself doesn't think she has to because Mummy doesn't, either. Her anorexia will likely return or other mental illness.
that girl is actually very smart and i can see that she knows the reason why she is anorexic. the parents and theraphist saying that she is too young to explain herself are very wrong when she says that she wants so forget anorexia i think what she means is she wants to forget the cause of anorexia that she is not telling about.
ughh im tired of all these comments like "ohh anerexia is because of models and movie stars that are so thin blah blah blah...." seriously i became anerexic when i was 9, and im now 14, i never thought i was fat?! I needed away to gain control and not eating felt....right....idk but seriously every case of anorexia isnt because we think were fat and were insecure!!!!!!
The parents really shouldn't blame the sister... My dad blamed my little brother for eating the last banana when I hadn't eaten anything on the whole day and he was trying to make me eat. But I wouldn't have eaten it anyway and it's the same with Dana, her anorexia would most likely have driven her to diet anyway.
I can actually see it in her eyes that she's still not okay... the way she eats and how fast she aswers when they ask her if she knows why she stopped eating.. theres someting shes hiding. It won't help her to just feed her if her mind is still sick, she'll go anorexic again.
I'm sorry but that was a horrible thing to do to blame their older daughter who is still a kid herself. How about doing some research first before pointing blame. I feel there is a strictness in that family that may have caused this problem, but instead of looking at their possible dysfunctions as parents they place the blame on their kids? That's messed up. If they aren't careful both their daughters will be going down that dark path.
the older sister is so understanding. she understood that her parents were really upset and worried about dana and that's the only reason they blamed her. it's very mature of her to know that, i hope they did apologise to her because even though they didn't do it maliciously or anything, they would still have hurt her feelings.
Her mother just let's her eat as much junk food as she wants, by the looks of it... Clearly Dana picked up on that, and knew that something wasn't right, but couldn't explain it because she's only 8, so she just wanted to eat more healthily.. but took it too far! But it doesn't look like Dana has a clear understanding of what anorexia is, even though she's read about it on the Internet once, she still doesn't quite understand, so she doesn't know exactly what to say, so she gives quick answers.
The mother is so fucking selfish. She has shown no emotion throughout the whole video except pity on herself for having to deal with "a child who isn't normal." What's even worse is that they're blaming it on the big sister. And then the mother agrees with Dana when she says that she doesn't know how it happened. She just doesn't know how to express it. That poor child. There is so much more going on here than what was told. I really wish her all the best.
Well I have a feeling that they didn't help her at all... The only reason she ate was because she wanted to get out of that hell hole. That poor poor girl
It is very mean blaming the dad about abusing his child. He probably has done nothing wrong and how would you like somebody telling you you look 'pedo-ish' or 'creepy'? He probably loves his daughter very much. Anyway, look how many TV series there is on dieting and you're always faced with the pressure of being skinny in everyday life. It's so rude -.-
She answers to quickly I think she covers her face so she won't start to cry and I don't mean to point fingers but maybe her big sister had magazines and stuff and she read them but I'm not blaming the big sister I just hope Dana is doing well she would be about 10 now
Her parents are both ruhtards. I am not convinced that she doesn't know why she started or that it just poof and went away. I think she's just scared to share it because she hated being in that facility. I hope she is better though.
This show makes me uneasy. 1) The clinic looks torturous. It doesn't seem like they have a clue about treating the mental aspect of EDs. 2) Dana is obviously not recovered, she's faking it to stop people worrying. She's hiding something, she answers so snappily. I don't know if she's been abused in the past but that could be it. 3) Her family seem really unhelpful, blaming her sister and trying to put a lid on the illness and go along with Dana's pretences that she's over the whole thing.
@musative I think her family had to adapt to a very scary situation, and although they made some mistakes, they probably tried their best.
I completely agree with everything else you wrote. It's so obvious there's something terribly wrong, still, and I hope one day, instead of wanting/trying to forget about whatever caused this, she is able to process it and move forward entirely.
Thanks to this documentary and my best friend (former anorexic/bulimic) I've decided my kids are not going to watch other channel than Discovery Kids or National Geographic, they are going to be home schooled till the age of 16, mirrows on a locked room and so on.
I was 11 when I first developed my eating disorder, 28 today and doing a lot better although it's still a struggle sometimes.
what people don't realize is that anorexia/bulimia is gonna be there for the rest of your life more or less. you may not be as sick as you used to be, but to most people it's gonna be a life-long struggle.
seeing an 8-year old going through that is really heartbreaking, I really hope that she won't go back to what she used to be, she deserves to be healthy
Oh my god.. Really? I just read a comment here like "she really shouldn't be running around all that much!" are you serious? She is 8 years old! She might be anorexic or hopefully used to be, but she is still 8! And why the hell would you blame the dad? Did it ever come to your mind that some man are that way or maybe it's a cultural thing that he isn't all out in the open. But saying that a man abused his 8 year old daughter without any evidence is disgusting and you should be ashamed...
@Sacrosanctum77 she was abused by SOMEBODY. something was going on in her home life. a child does not randomly come down with a case of anorexia for no reason. something happened to her. YOU should be ashamed for ignoring this completely obvious fact.
SOMEthing did indeed happen. Whether sexual or not, it was something.
How dare you say it was her dad though. Yes he was awkward, yes he seemed sluggish. That doesn't mean a thing.
You have had bad experiences. I can tell. It is probable to be sexual abuse or harassment, but DON'T go pointing fingers at specific people with no evidence at all.
@CowieMooCowxo87 and you obviously didn't pay attention when you read my comment! I said that people shouldn't just blame the dad because he is a quiet guy and especially without any evidence. did I say that it is not possible that she got abused by someone? you should be ashamed of yourself for not paying attention and ranting on about things I've never said. keep on investigating, sherlock.
Seriously don't make her run around the living room i do as much inactivty as possible i want to be 100lbs again not 81 i have lost 30 pounds but i am still gaining
Oh my god this mother is so fucking stupid. She will still be anorexic. Can't you see how she looks when she eats? She will learn how to wrap those parents around her finger and it will be the death of her. You CANNOT cure anorexia in 12 weeks and especially when there is a lack of communication. You CANNOT force someone with anorexia to eat, it doesn't work. It won't make their mind healthy.
@awesomegirl122100 Oh I know that but in the video if they eat everything and have a tiny spoon full on the plate they have to eat it and basically lick the plate and they're full soo??
my 9 years old cousin is anorexic and so is her 4 years old brother, its cuz their mum doesn't give them food and their parents dont care about them they have no hope, if they eat a bit they vomit everything, its very sad and none of their parents seem to care :(
Civilized people are killing each other and themselves on so many levels, it's difficult to explain it all in one sentence. One way is the constant, generations-long advertisement that has brainwashed nearly everyone. So many children, and for so many reasons, are getting Rx meds for all types of psychiatric problems. I am of the strong impression that we're quickly losing control of ourselves, our families, communities and environment. ED is just one of many ways that we're painfully losing.
Keep fighting strong Dana. Your story touched my heart. I hope that you can fight to get better, get past this, and live a life that is full of possibilities.
I hope her mother realizes that this is a serious disease. She keeps saying it was a childhood thing and now its over with. It is not fixed that easily and this is not some childhood phase. She also comes off as a little selfish. She seemed almost mad that she had to count her calories for her. She says she wants her better but shes not willing to put in any work. I just hope that beautiful little girl gets better!
don't get why people are talking about her family? You don't even know them. You don't know what's going on in that little kid's head... So don't judge.
I think that her parents marriage is the reason with her dad yelling and her mum won't even look at her dad. The parents relationship to me looks bad and her mum is very self centered all she thinks about it getting easier for her and not thinking about her daughter
the parents are so mean for blameing the big sister for the little one going anorexic on them...maybe they should take the time out of their day and see why the big one is dieting and see if she has a problem with eating...if she was dieting enough to cause the little one to go anorexic then maybe she is dieting toooo much...just saying...dont play the blame game because the big sister probably has someone to blame too
@jonathan3655 I don't they were mean. I think they were desperate. It wasn't right to blame her, but they were looking for a reason for a disease that doesn't need one. This disease must be devastating to the parents, therefore i would place no blame on them for anything they did during the grieving process, maybe before they completely understood. They seem like excellent parents. The mum sounds smart and loving. I wish them the best.
@moneyasusual and i agree with you to a certain extent,i really adored the mom she seemed really nice but it irks me because she blamed her when "blameing" should have been left out of the equation period. thats gotta be devistateing to all of them but i bet if it were the older sister and dad blameing the mom she would feel horrible i mean thats a life threatening disease and the blame shouldnt have been placed on anyone at all period. but i really really really wish the best for them.
@jonathan3655 For sure. The impression i got is that they might have blamed her in the early stages, perhaps before it got too concerning. That probably stuck with her, though, which is the sad thing.
@jonathan3655 i honestly just think that the reason that the mom blamed the big sister was because she's probably just worried and sad and and angry at her self and when that happens you usually blame the people you care about
Seems like she lives in a pretty happy house with a happy family.. I just don't understand why she would want to starve herself.. I mean, maybe it's because she's seen people on tv. or she heard someone talk about it.? or maybe i'm wrong, maybe she really does just need help..But seriously....an eight year old.....,eight...year....old..
It's pissing me off so much that everyone is like oh she shouldn't be eating chocolate or fries blah blah when you're at an eating disorder clinic it's all about high calorie meals to get your weight up right away, she was so thin she could have died, she needed all the calories she could get. Once your weight is stable you're learn to eat healthy foods, but until then it isn't about nutrition it's about getting your dangerously low weight up as quickly as possible.
@jbuyens I agree. And clinics like Rhodes Farm give the patients food which they would not normally allow themselves to try and break the rules that anorexia has given them, so foods like chips and chocolate are important in recovery. :-)
Rhodes Farm became part of Care UK’s portfolio of eating disorder services in February 2011 when full ownership was acquired from Dr Dee Dawson. With Rhodes Farm as part of Care UK, we now have a unique range of expertise and experience in eating disorders spanning acute care and rehabilitation. Our clinical governance systems and processes ensure delivery of high quality care in all our services and promote safety and continuous improvement.
1997 A girl called Lauren Was walking through the forest and she disappeared no one ever found her until 2000 a younger girl named Mary found her with marking on her chest saying: I wasn't pretty enough." and now that you have read this she will appear in your mirror saying your not pretty enough and then she will kill you. By the way the girl was called Mary died shorty after. To be saved you need to post this on 5 other videos this is true. I'm posting this because I don't play with my life.
It would be really troubling if her dad was abusing her. Watching through these videos, he seems to be disconnected from the entire situation. She's not hugging or really interacting with him, but she's also not shying away from him and doesn't look nervous around him at all. I think he just doesn't understand what's going on and is therefore not attached to the situation... which could be why she's not hugging him, because she could be doing it for attention and he's still not giving it to her.
dana is adorable but they should not be loading her up with junk food, they need to find a way to feed her more responsibly. Veggies, meat, fruits, giving her chocolate and cake and ice cream just for calories isnt the smartest idea. I pray for this family and everyone fighting ED.
Oh gosh! why do some people here just assume it has something to do with her father? Is it because hes an Arab? Because if so, that's just racist! And by the way, her dad might be or might not be distanced from her. Just because he doesn't appear that much in this documentary, that doesn't mean he's distanced from her, or hes the reason for whats happening to her!
If you watch a previous video, you'll notice his English accent isn't perfect, maybe thats the reason why he doesnt appear in videos
@SuperWagaMama MY SENTIMENTS AS WELL these are sick people, that man clearly loves his daughter and i hate that people immediately assume that just becaiuse they are not close that means he is sexaully abusing her! bunch of psychos! m so so so angered by this and i pray to God that he doesnt read these ludacris allegations written about him!
@zorikaable Exactly! I'm so glad that there are actually some reasonable people in the world! And about what you said at last (..pray to God that her doesn't read those comments and all..), that was my very first thought!
@SuperWagaMama I'm starting to think this now.. Initially I thought he may have been the root of the problem. But this could all be a set up. I'm a true believer of Zionism. The media loves to portray Arabs in a horrible light, and this MAY be a possible, indirect way of enforcing the Zionists agenda. Just sayin. Or he could be a sexual molester. Who knows.
@sadiyah88 Well actually, no body knows! Everything is possible, of course. But there are a lot of unnecessarily and sad assumptions that aren't proven in any way. I just hope that people would think before they posting such comments...
Dana's hiding something, but don't be so quick to assume her family, specifically her dad is to blame. We're just watching a documentary and we know fuck all. Ignorant, presumptive opinions can be so damaging. There's not a great deal you can do except offer sympathy, so don't make such callous remarks.
the best thing is for her parents to be more involved in her life talk to her.....let her become more open about what's she thinking.....she's holding back.....anorexia is still apart of her and always will be
sick people yall who blame her dad are! just because he is distanced from her doesnt mean he sexaully abused her! Come on you blaming a poor man for nothing some man are like that they cannot express their love but did you see his eyes full of tears in the interview....he loves his daughter and for yall to just pass judgement on him like that is sickening! wow bunch of UNQUALIFIED PSUEDO-PSYCHOLOGISTS!
As someone who has suffered from anorexia since I was 8 (way back in 2002), having been hospitalised 5 times, I definitely think Dana is hiding something. I mean, I'll openly admit that my father's attitude towards food played a part in triggering my own illness, and it looks like the same is true with Dana. Anorexia may be somewhat genetic, but these things don't just happen by themselves, despite what Dana's mother may think.
I just want to give her a big hug and talk to her. :(
I think the trigger had something to do with the father or brother. Shes oversexualizing herself at 8! thats usually due too someone basically "abusing her", sexually...
@passionforbeautyy OR it could be she has a really pretty older sister who wears a lot of eye makeup and so she mimics that. girls always wanna be like their bigger sister.
Mother is delusional. Father seems mildly psychopathic. Both perfectionists with very little ability to self-reflect. Whole family in complete denial and no member seems to have a spot of insight. Dana is not healed. There's an opacity to her that's alarming.
She doesn't want chocolate because THEY'VE BEEN FEEDING HER SO MUCH OF IT. Like, y'know when it's after Easter and chocolate tastes sickly? It doesn't mean she's gonna relapse, but if they keep feeding her so much she probably will.
Her parents do NOT understand, being on camera is NOT the right thing for an anorexic, and something about her relationship with her Dad seems really off. And she's obviously lying about being recovered, she should've been in counselling since she left the clinic.
I agree @TheKayleighg I also think that she didn't even know why she was anorexic and I mean I know she's so so young but like I feel like you need to understand what the reason was. She's so young and I do hope she stays well but I don't think it's gone. Because it's never really gone you know? and she's just so young. I hope she doesn't relapse. Beautiful girl <3
@sayyadina get your facts straight nothing was thick on the face but blusher eyeliner and mascara if you know yaz then you'd know she never wears foundation tsk tsk stop hating
Dana is soo sweet I really hope she stays well!!Her mum reminds me so much of my own mother when I was at my worst, she remembers it as if it was a nightmare... that's the way it feels to me too, but I'm still in it.. parents often need to realize, the most helpful thing they can do, is to detach themselves from their child emotionally, even though it's clear the mum loves Dana dearly I think she is too involved and it might scare Dana more than anything.. the brother is well fit..by the way :D
and pretty sure 'forcing them to eat fatty foods' is better than them fucking dying of starvation because the girls that go in there come from death-beds in hospitals? the lady at the clinic said our goal is to get them eating so they don't die? it's better to send them there becoz they eat, instead of literally dying. idiots
why the hell would u say the clinic if feeding them crap? dana said anything you name, we've eaten it.. that means that they're eating every vegetable there is and all different kind of dishes. they also have group therapy and one on one therapy to talk about feelings and to teach them that there's nothing wrong with being a normal weight. u people are morons
Blaming the sister was the parents reaching for any answer they could find for their younger daughter's disorder. I don't think they really blame her. Influences are everywhere. As for taking care of Dana post-clinic, this mother is AMAZING. I am so proud of this family for volunteering for this documentary.
The mum needs to realise that blaming the sister is not the way to go.
I mean, her problem isn't just about food and being fat. it's about being in control, because dana is obviously a smart girl.
as everyone has been saying, mum is in denial. and i think that unfortunately, dana might relapse but not because of her sister, but because of her mum's controlling and denial behaviour.
She's obviously hyper intelligent, and I feel that all these assumptions made about her inability to express just don't do her intelligence and personality justice. And maybe she was in protest against that, wanting to be seen as who she was, failing which she wanted to eradicate herself. She got along so easily with the older girls probably because they could understand each other on a special emotional level, something not everyone has access to. Are the questions being asked really helping?
Something's not being said. She's a very mature little girl. I don't believe it's gone I think shes just doing what she has to do for the time being because she doesn't wasn't to go back but shes not cured and mom just wants to rush things along instead of determining and dealing with the real root problem....however I do wish them the best....just altogether sad situation

Betterthanu0Y 1 month ago
I'm sorry but that was a horrible thing to do to blame their older daughter who is still a kid herself. How about doing some research first before pointing blame. I feel there is a strictness in that family that may have caused this problem, but instead of looking at their possible dysfunctions as parents they place the blame on their kids? That's messed up. If they aren't careful both their daughters will be going down that dark path.
TheFerret78 1 month ago
the older sister is so understanding. she understood that her parents were really upset and worried about dana and that's the only reason they blamed her. it's very mature of her to know that, i hope they did apologise to her because even though they didn't do it maliciously or anything, they would still have hurt her feelings.

3) Her family seem really unhelpful, blaming her sister and trying to put a lid on the illness and go along with Dana's pretences that she's over the whole thing.
musative 1 month ago 9
@musative I think her family had to adapt to a very scary situation, and although they made some mistakes, they probably tried their best.
I completely agree with everything else you wrote. It's so obvious there's something terribly wrong, still, and I hope one day, instead of wanting/trying to forget about whatever caused this, she is able to process it and move forward entirely.

Did it ever come to your mind that some man are that way or maybe it's a cultural thing that he isn't all out in the open. But saying that a man abused his 8 year old daughter without any evidence is disgusting and you should be ashamed...
Sacrosanctum77 1 month ago 95
@Sacrosanctum77 she was abused by SOMEBODY. something was going on in her home life. a child does not randomly come down with a case of anorexia for no reason. something happened to her. YOU should be ashamed for ignoring this completely obvious fact.
CowieMooCowxo87 23 hours ago
@CowieMooCowxo87
That's not right. I don't care who you are.

You CANNOT force someone with anorexia to eat, it doesn't work. It won't make their mind healthy.

ED is just one of many ways that we're painfully losing.

jonathan3655 2 months ago 109

Blaming the sister was the parents reaching for any answer they could find for their younger daughter's disorder. I don't think they really blame her. Influences are everywhere. As for taking care of Dana post-clinic, this mother is AMAZING. I am so proud of this family for volunteering for this documentary.
alliemegs 4 months ago
The mum needs to realise that blaming the sister is not the way to go.
I mean, her problem isn't just about food and being fat. it's about being in control, because dana is obviously a smart girl.
as everyone has been saying, mum is in denial. and i think that unfortunately, dana might relapse but not because of her sister, but because of her mum's controlling and denial behaviour.
sarahszss 4 months ago
She's obviously hyper intelligent, and I feel that all these assumptions made about her inability to express just don't do her intelligence and personality justice. And maybe she was in protest against that, wanting to be seen as who she was, failing which she wanted to eradicate herself. She got along so easily with the older girls probably because they could understand each other on a special emotional level, something not everyone has access to. Are the questions being asked really helping?
