  • i did some reading up on the jcm 800 as i was telling u my buddy had one in the mid 80's and it sounded like shit. i read where around 85 they changed the marshall circuit to save some costs and it ended up sounding shitty

  • @hirskdubbi I had a 1984 jcm 800 and it rocked, sounded just like eddies,Broke and hungry L.A. in 87 i sold it. I should have my ass kicked. I shoulda starved!!!!! It was a master volume, 2203 I think

  • @jktarheel You really should be! That would be a piece of gold by now and an actual built of that time! It sound be really really good and solid!

  • Where did you get the Marshall Box?

  • Aren't 6550's the ones Hendrix used in his Marshalls?

  • @HearingLossProvider No. The early plexis had KT-88s or 66s. The 6550s were put in the American-shipped amps in the 80s to prevent the EL-34s from blowing and causing warranty repairs. I have one of these that sounded OK with 6550s but I had them changed to EL-34s and the tone was better and the distortion level was higher.

  • @jhs5150 Okay, Thanks! I was reading something about Ace Frehley and his first Marshall stack, and how he got one with the same power tubes Hendrix had but I couldn't remember the particular tube. I want an amp with EL34's but I can't use a JCM in my apartment.

  • @jhs5150

It depends on what kind of overall tone you want. EL-34s have a certain lower mid density that can seem honky, and can emphasize pick attack.

Check out LasseLammert. He's got every amp under the sun, and his sounds are tops.

  • what brand of tubes are you using in both preamp and power amp sections?

  • I made a handwired turret board clone of a 50 watt JCM 800. I have it running on NOS KT66's ,Mullards. It sounds pretty good too man. I routinely hear it next to some expensive high gain heads, and it more than holds it own. Its all in the iron and the glass man.

  • what's the song at 0:15 till the end?

  • this sounds so much better than a jcm800 that my buddy bought in 1986,it didnt get enough distortion and the tone wasnt there,i was so dissapointed.therefore i never bought a marshall which i regret,i want one so bad now.the beautiful vintage sounds it brings

  • @hirskdubbi Put El-34s in it. This will really wake up the tone controls also. That's the only mod to my '82 2204 and it sounds great.

  • what do you have this dialed into? I dig this.

  • there was a reason that alot of marshalls were modded by the rock stars that had them

  • I'm sorry but my splawn 100 watt nitro "marshall clone" does marshall better than a marshall in fact it would destroy that81 jcm 800 if you think im bullshitting do as search on here and listen

  • @wpmtpmLOL . theses early jcm 800 amps are untouchable. and certainly not by clones

  • @plexilespaull I didn't mean to come off rough but i am speaking from experience i have played through those heads before, and to say they are untouchable is a little bit of an overstatement ,i can tell you are in fact proud of those heads....with good reason because Marshall doesn't make them like that anymore but they are certainly touchable whilst the Marshall legacy is untouchable...have you tried some of the other stuff out there?

  • @wpmtpm well i have been around for 30 years playing guitar so yes i have tried a lot of gear. and for that classis tones of the 70's and 80's nothing can touch an old marshall

  • @plexilespaull You are right about that, i thought you were saying that Marshall ruled supreme over all ....when you think about it Marshall is pretty much the Granddaddy of what we have today,i am 43 and have been playing since i was 15 i own a Mesa Boogie Mark V they are my preference and the funny part is I'm English! Lol. thanks for being civil.

  • @plexilespaull in all honesty there are other amps that are just as good or better for that 70's and 80's sound... marshall is not the be all to end all :P

  • i have the same luck to own one too :) ...however i'm running it through an orange cab....absolutely fantastic combination

  • Sounds great...finely a demo where someone isn't playing ACDC through this epic head...Marshall are capable of so much more than just classic rock riffs. For the two that think this tone isn't good, grow a pair and explore the tonal bliss this amp can do...

  • If it sounds as terrible as this Marshall", Then Yes".need another amp!

  • i agree

  • @plexilespaul I think sax is just after a different tone and genre than you seek with your Marshalls'. That is what is great about these amps. You can get great clean tones out of them or great rock and metal sounds. Just depends on what you are looking for. That being said, it would be nice to have at least 3: A plexi from the 60's, an EL-34 powered 2204 and maybe a Silver Jubilee or JVM. That would really cover all the bases pretty well!

  • @Prestostark i agree man
