I love dark/black comedies. Love movies that take me out of my comfort zone. But this disturbed the hell out of me! Sick, siiiicckk movie! I seriously felt dirty, inside and out after watching it. With that being said, I recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't seen it.
Saw the movie, which was beautifully crafted, and sublimely true. You can feel happiness fade into the abyssmal muck that is everyones' sad pathetic life. Makes me feel understood? Not alone? Like happiness is not just a STRUGGLE for me, but OTHERS. Misery is an equalizer. Everyone is miserable in different ways.

If I have one objection to this movie it's that he didn't actually follow through on these impulses and actually go on a homicidal rampage by the end. He just raped a few little boys. He was looking at serious time as it was and even if were to get off relativley easy his life was still fucked beyond belief so he should have just done it.
This movie is so wonderfully dark that you pretty much have to be a terrible person to enjoy it, it's humor mainly. If you are a terrible person, however, this will be the best movie you will ever see.
wow its obvious no one seen this movie so please respectively shut the fuck up..in this scene the shooter is actually a psychiatrist seeking help from another psychiatrist and is sharing his most recent dream that he had because he hates his life, his clients his own family and as the result of that he is unhappy the movie happiness about people that are indirectly related to each other and each one struggling with the harsh realities of life while trying to find their true meaning of happiness
Perhaps an accurate account of the sorts of thoughts going on in the minds of more people than we dare imagine. Solondz cuts close to the bone and delivers black comedy gold.

i know it is a dream sequence but what scenes are when they put nice music over death and destructon i ve seen this in a few films but i always wonder what it is called
Please!!! Todd Solondz only uses tabu topics and scandal to get people who pay for watch his films, is so obvious!!! Watch them if you like, but don't play his game, pretendig he's a trully artist. He's not. Is like junk TV.
So because you don't like the subject matter and don't like the artistic statement it HAS none? I loved this movie, I was as moved by this as I was by some of the most respected art films of all time, this is up there with Blue Velvet and Cape Fear in terms of it's impact and intelligence...
Medically speaking, there is absolutely nothing you can do to help a pedophile. That would be like telling a heterosexual man who prefers redheads to start liking blondes instead.
Don't know if you're joking, but I'm pretty sure that most hetero males would ultimately jump at the chance to have sex with any remotely attractive woman who was willing, regardless of hair-color preference. But yeah, I agree with you on the first one. As despicable as pedophilia is, Solondz and Baker did an amazing job at portraying what a pedophile might go through daily, especially one who obviously cares for his son the way a normal father should. The final scene between them is amazing.
The pedophile is my favorite character in the movie. I mean, what he does is so wrong, but he admits his problems in such a humble manner that he's hilarious.
