  • Butlins was a brilliant family holiday at very affordable prices. Also very safe for kids and everything was free! i used to go to ayr every year in the 70`s. i took my own kids to Bognor and while the entertainment was still excellent you had to pay for the cinema, snooker, mini golf, funfair etc. Very sad, it wast broke so why did they try to fix it. Cant take the memories away tho!!

  • Was there a scaletrix track somewhere

  • Im sure the red coat at 3:26 is roy hud just seen it on tv about butlins

  • I have 2 of the clowns that where on the wall of the nursery at Barry Island....they need a good home!

  • @rayhypno Hi,do you still have the clowns and would you like to sell them please, thank you, debbie.

  • Life was much lovelier then.

  • wasnt born til 71 but so many memories there of brillaint family holidays as a kid, thanks so much for posting

  • was that at Bognor?

  • thanks i had great memories there the very early 70s as a kid cant remmeber which one we went to though! i do remember putting 5pence into make the tv work though and get 30 mins out of it!

  • thanks i had great memories there the very early 70s as a kid cant remmeber which one we went to though!

  • Such good memories...every year as a group of families would go to either butlins or pontins....i loved it...such exciting times...fantastic memories........

  • This has brought back so many memories. I could have even been there with my family when this was taken I would have been 7. Thanks for sharing this.

  • this is lovely too see... such lovely innocent childhood memories

  • oh wow that brought back a lot of memories i was 3 the first time i went to filey in 73 and and you know it had never changed one bit one of the best holiday camps around and will always will be thanks for posting the video.

  • remember all that you said more colourful as well quite pycodelic

  • Great footage of a british holiday favourite a bygone time, when children made their own fun, without computers, etc. Bring back the old british seaside , childrens innocence, puch and judy, donkey 's on the beach all childhood memories that are wasted on the kids of today..

  • what a pleasure to watch its plain to see that kids didnt need PS3/Laptops/Ipods to be happy unlike the ferile youths of today......

  • I want the sheet music!!...thats a beautiful song...is it in G?

  • The kid on the trampoline would probs be playing Resident Evil on PS3 nowadays.

  • I remember these times very clearly from my younger days' butlins and pontins in the 60s and the 70s were great for the kids' with good professional entertainment and a great deal of pride in what they did, then sadly in the early 80s the decline in staff and entertainment began .. Today its just young scruffy herberts with no talent and no future - People like myself were there when these places were great! I'm sure most people over 50 will agree! R.I.P to both butlins and pontins!

  • What beautiful footage to keep. It brought back so many lovely memories for me too. We went to Phwethelli and Minehead as kids. Wish we had that kind of footage. In those days not many people could afford a cinni camera. Once again thanks it was a pleasure to watch!

  • Thanks so much for this. I found some of the comments here very touching. Like most of them I believe Butlins was a far far better place back then. My Dad used to work at Butlins in Barry Island and I spent a lot of time there, everything was free, the cable car was great and the pool with the underwater windows, the gaiety theatre and the huge ballroom where everybody danced, it was fantastic. I don't know why it had to change, like most things these days, it all changes for the worst

  • i say bring back the good old days

  • Wow thank so much for putting this up, how times have changed - my Fiancee and I went recently and I have always wondered what it used to be like.

Must say that Butlins are now employing lots of Asylum Seekers, only noticed on my last trip - and it sort of loses its fun when you cant understand a word they are saying.

Still a great place for fun though.

  • Thats true and they were good days but without technology like the net we wouldnt be able to use you tube and recall these days at the push of a button

  • has really changed was there pizza hut, burger king,a chip shop,an arcade, tickets to swap for toys,a little shop in the main stage and the reds was there a main stage was there the reds, was there go karts wow it has changed and most of all was the a mega super fantastic hydromatic great big tent called the skyline.

  • Butlins has Changed so much. they scrapped the monorail and chair lift and the chu chu strain on the track. and the window to let us see the swimers!

What do they have now? A Tent and some pubs

. For a mind of a Child the old butlins was magical. Mega thanx for putting on youtube.

  • Butlins was fantastic in 1984 and 1985.

I went there in 1999 and it has been ruined completely. No Cable cars running over the camp, no monorail running over the camp and outdoor funpool, no outside funpool, crap fair and moved to by the road, NO competions, I used to do the talent competitions, disco dancing competion, no fancydress comp or any of the other comps which were great entertainment, Butlins was a great family camp, now its just boozed up teenagers, ruined.

  • I went to Butlins at Bognor for a weekend break last Friday. I have also been there in 1997 when I was about 5, and I can only remember the old butlins a bit. It's changed so much it is hard to recongize anything. I think they might be going through another major redevelopment soon. There was a construction site just by the main entrance/car park where it seems they are building a new hotel ot entertainment falcility.

  • Was at Bognor 1 week before you, yeah they are building more accomodation I think, only a few of the car parks were open because of the construction workers.

  • @FantasyMindedMan I couldnt agree more I even liked the tannoy that used to wake you in the morning with music like cavatina and albatross

  • thanks for the memories i went to clacton every year until it closed in 1983 gutted

  • Wow, I used to love butlins as a kid!

In fact I am going to minehead next year - with the Harley Owners Group!!!

  • that doesnt look like pwhelli to me, i had loads of great holidays @ butlins, ive been to 6 of the camps.most of my visits was to pwhelli between early 70s and 85, were we went twice a year. i went twice to pwhelli after 85 that, but was never the same

  • and it dosent look too pwhelli to me either in fact it looks fuckin awful

  • what a fantastic film im assuming its pwllheli we had so many holidays there til they knocked it down gutted. if u have any other films mail me love the old memories

  • Great to see a unique and original redcoats - I was a Redcoat at Pwhelli and Barry Island in 1977-1978

  • Brilliant, the redcoats wore the proper white trousers then, and were proper mature entertainers not the kids that they have got today.

  • That was quite scary wasnt it?

  • which camp is it?

  • @ashita100 this was clacton it says it on a sign by the pool

  • Last time I stayed at Butlins was in 1975 at Minehead. Memories !

  • Butlins was tops. Every morning "good morning campers" to the tune of John Williams, what memories. And then at the end of the night "Good night campers, see you in the morning...." Jesus I'm gettin old (and I love it)

  • Butlins and pontins were great in the 60s and 70s but soon after the start of the 80s things started to go down hill the entertainment staff were of a poor standard badly dressed with no talent just a conveyer belt of student wasters - Billy Butlin and Fred Pontin must be turning inside their graves R I P. I remember the good times.

  • that is a great video, many happy holidays at butlins,i worked at butlins aye 1977, your clip brought back a lot of memorys, good luck

  • Look..they even have REAL Redcoats...with real uniforms...EXCELLENT. not like the poor excuse they have nowerdays...

  • Superb Stuff 5 out of 5.

Oh for the day of butlins of old, went from the 70's still go now to the adult weekends, but nothing could beat the old day. Don't forget visit butlinsmemories just do a google search for it and so many Butlins memories and be sure to join us on the forums.

  • It looks like a prison camp.

  • rate my video cinebloex

  • martin, that was great, and wasnt that baby gorgeous :D

    love terrie xxxxxxxxx

  • Wow thats amazing! Butlins memories live on. My first visit was Skegness in the 70's and now I bring my children.

  • A great record of the 60's. Which Butlins was it?

  • Thank you. It was Clacton, we went every year.
