  • It's NOT skinning the cat. Look up what skin the cats are.

  • Supose to use biceps in this exercise not triceps.

  • @Timmy13oi yeah I can agree with that after couple BL holds I feel my arms are sore already

  • FREAK :D , damn ur happy guy ! :D:D like u no mateer tht vid shows nothing , cheers !

  • I tried to do 3 rounds of 15 (skin some cats). Harder than it looks. Getting your legs through without using your feet to push is harder than one would think.

  • Teach me how to do this. I've experimented with this at home after watching this Friday but knocked the fire alarm off the wall. I'm thinking my leg placement is off? For beginners you say tuck back lever to straddle back lever to 1/2 way back lever?

  • @astranger8u Read the article linked in the description. :)

  • @alkavadlo Contracting muscles and lengthening is key, no? Like handstands but different.

  • @astranger8u Sounds like you've got the right idea.

  • actually, a "skin the cat" is when you hang all the way down with your arms behind you... your skin the cat stopped when you were upside down (in an inverted hang), if you had kept going around until your feet were underneath you, then it would have been a skin the cat

  • @caseysbacon Yeah I know. This tutorial kinda sucks - my bad. Maybe I'll get around to redoing it one day.

  • @alkavadlo haha no problem... didnt mean to troll on your video

  • Al, I have been working on these but when do it, the pressure that I feel in my head makes it seem likes it's literally going to explode. No other exercise does this to me, I notice your face is pretty red and strained in the video. Is it normal too feel this intense pressure? currently I just drop out of it as it doesn't feel at all good, does it improve as you get stronger and better at executing the move?

  • @FuelRestMotion Yes it gets easier with practice - I am much better at it now than I was a year ago when I made this video. Oh, and if your head explodes, make sure someone gets it on video!

  • @FuelRestMotion if a full back lever is too much for you right now try a tuck back lever first, when you feel combortable with thatone, progress to a straddle BL, then to a half lay BL, and finally to a full BL :)

  • i understood from the gymnastics that u got big arms more from straight arm work

  • What is the best exercise for getting bigger arms in your opinion?

  • @rollybody There is no one best exercise for getting bigger arms. Pull-ups, push-ups and dips are all good ones though.

  • Looks awesome, nice video. thanks!!

Is the back lever the best exercise to get bigger arms?

  • @rollybody Thanks - glad you enjoyed the vid! The back lever is not the best exercise to get bigger arms.

  • You need to turn your hands over so that your palms are down and straighten out your back. Also, if you face is exploding from this, it is too hard for you and you need to scale it down a progression or 2. The back lever is a fundamental gymnastic skill and should be done with relative ease.

  • @wazzy198 Well you sure put me in my place! I have no doubt that you can perform a back lever much more skillfully.

  • @alkavadlo What is it with everyone's attitudes? I didn't insult you or try to put you in your place. I made an observation. What I said is a fact and you can go look it up yourself. Your back lever does not look correct and there is a reason. Also, you probably find it is hard on the elbows to turn your palms down. The back lever is a bicep tendon preparation exercise and you are avoiding the whole challenge. I can do a half-lay back lever for the record, but what I can do is irrelevant.

  • @wazzy198 If everyone you deal with seems to have an attitude, maybe you need to explore the possibility that perhaps you provoked them in some way.

As for my form, yes, I am aware that it needs some work. I've already acknowledged that in a couple of the other comments. And I disagree that what you can do is irrelevant.

  • @alkavadlo I say everyone, but i mean a select few. Most people don't react negatively. I am not going to sugar coat everything when I say it. I have limited characters to use on Youtube so I try to get the point across in as few as possible. I am sorry, I kind of sounded douchey.

  • @wazzy198 Apology accepted - It's all good. I actually got a better back lever on film recently (though my hands are still facing up). I'll be posting it in after the holidays - you should subscribe so you can see it. In the meantime, you might enjoy some of my other videos more than this one - it's definitely not my best work.

  • @alkavadlo yes, he did. you are a weak little fagget.

  • @fatass514 Thanks for that insightful comment!

  • @fatass514 Please don't troll helpful videos, it doesn't make you look cool at all.

  • lol nice catch phrase. were workin out. good tutorial but you should have thrown in some progressions

  • @slayerguitar Thanks! I agree though that this is not one of my better tutorials. Check out my more recent ones!

  • Are these supposed to be easier than front levers? Even though I suck at them, fronts are slightly easier for me :/. Does this require more trap and chest strength? I take it the best solution is to just keep going at them, huh?

  • @TheRetardOnTheLoose I find the back lever a bit easier than the front lever, but we all have different strengths and weaknesses. Definitely keep practicing!

  • Good stuff Al. I've been trying to get this move for so long and have been unsuccessful. Damn heavy legs - they feel like a ton! lol!

  • @dawalli Keep practicing, Dawalli. I think you're strong enough, you probably just need more practice to get the feel of it.

  • its a pretty fast way to got the back lever

use the tucked , advanced tuck , and one leg variation is really good to progress safety step by step.

i find this tutorial too quick.

  • @speedyman290 This coming for a guy called "speedyman" haha :)

  • @alkavadlo *from not for

  • @alkavadlo yeah its just about the run lol

  • @alkavadlo LOL!!! good vid ...

  • @bilal3377 Thanks man!

  • well done al.

but i would call "skin the cats" going all the way down but with legs piked or tucked. thats just what we call "skin the cat" at circus.

    keep em coming mate

  • @myauramusic True, but getting around the bar is tends to be the tricky part.

  • How good is neutral grip pull ups...I mean how beneficial it is as compared to normal pulls ups and chin ups....

  • @tukesh Neutral grip pull-ups are good!

  • I've tried it, is hard to keep a long time :)

  • @Furiouslal Yep. It takes a lot of practice to get this move. As you probably noticed, I still can't get my body completely straight!
