  • in their music i listen a lot of king crimson, and i like them!

  • what the fuck it is. this guitarrist should be miner no guitarrist

  • Man, why is it that I hate Mike's tone so much?! He's a good guitarist, but I can never get behind his guitar's tones!

  • 0:13 - 0:42 it's annoying

  • ... that sucks

  • Beautiful chaotic destruction - hope these guys find a drummer and record something soon

  • I have perfectly transcribed tabs, they are all yours if you can translate vulcan?

  • Nice edit in the middle with the dividing of the shots

  • I don't uderstand the haters, if you don't like it, just don't listen.

  • No doubt. Amen.

  • The entire comments section of this video can be summed up like this: haters gonna hate.

  • @deegz01 hahaha dude let me see you play that intro then. The repitition at that speed is a lot harder to keep that clean and precise than you think

  • props to the ONE dude up in front throwin up the horns.

  • that would suck if some just felt like fucking up the tuning of that bass one day

  • ...perhaps the reason some have left negative comments is aside from the fact that they are extremely talented they have not created music that flows without seemingly random disruptions that are in perfect sync with each other -this tells the listener that the "stop and go" tendency heard here is deliberate which may cause the listner to ask "with that level of talent can't you make a heavy song that flows without too much interuption" -after all, even the great composers were able to do both

  • it literally sounds like someone took a metal band and threw then down the stairs

  • what a pile of shit,

  • lame fucks especially that bassist

  • @qwertyhydro He's not really what you'd call a bass player. He's playing the exact same notes as the guitarist most of the time. I've heard a few times wher he stops riffing and nails the groove down, but they are few and far between.

  • this music if thats what u want to call it...just made me puke in my mouth

  • um i think ur guitars r out of tune.... oh there not? must be you then

  • How the fuck is it possible that people like this fucking crap? Playing fucking random notes and say "wow this is too progressive!!!"

  • @MrEllinaras It's purposeful dissonance. And the notes aren't rendom if they play the same ones every time.

  • in life, there are certain things that are guaranteed to get people backs up, this is one of them, personally, i dont like it, but then again my opinion (and anyone elses) is mere conjecture, is this music? of course, do i like it, no way, do i hate them? hates a strong word, am i seemingly having a conversation with myself? it would seem so.....

  • harmony can be used in metal too

  • there is no "wrong" way to do music, but this dont feel right lol

  • this sux balls

  • @D3m0nhunter719

You're a genius, go play 8 seconds of a Dream Theater song.

  • @slapproductions I didn't post this, my asshole brother did from my profile.

    I still hate Arctopus though.

I had no intentions to even comment on this though, just so you know.

And about the Dream Theater songs, fuck you I haven't had the time to learn full songs much less a full Dream theater song.

  • @D3m0nhunter719

Slap your brother in the face.

  • Comment removed

  • @slapproductions

    Nah he's right.

  • Wow I love the feeling this song gives to listeners, so emotional, can you hear the little birds chirping? It's like a rush of fresh sea air. - U would have to have mental health issues and talk like this to like this shit. The intro reminded me of a 5 year old practicing finger exercises, and all you wanna do is tell the little shit to shut the Fark up.

  • @deegz01

You write ads for feminine hygiene products.

  • @slapproductions at least i dont use them :) is this ur band?

  • @deegz01 You should use them. They taste good. No, not my band.

  • @deegz01 what 5 year olds do you know that practice finger exercises??

  • where the hell can i find information on the warr guitar basses? there are no specs anywhere

  • Oh my fucking God, what the fuck was that all about!?

  • God this shit sucks. There's trying to be progressive, and there's straight up unnecessary shit.

  • The problem with truly innovative music is that it is rarely appreciated in its time. BTA FTW

  • @burk909 Amen to that shit dude.

  • this sounds like guitar center

  • @xMrBumpyx Too funny! :)

  • eventhough I personally don't like their music I do have to admit that those guys know how to play their instruments...

  • Crazy :O

  • i simply love that.

this music is simply awesome, pure madness.

  • no point at all...

  • 24,773 points

  • don't care...at all!

  • then stop typing.

  • hahah.

Saying that BTA isn't good is like saying that Arnold Schoenberg isn't good.

Essentially, you are saying that a brand new way of thinking about music is bad. I mean obviously the type of music both these artists create is completely alien to people who have come to rely on things like stable time signatures and re-occuring melodies or themes. But its music, none the less.

Serial music and Through-composed song structure are both awesome tools, I think.

  • There is nothing new about this, it's been around for a good time now.

Get your head out of you ass and you'd know that.

  • i think people would like it better if the songs were less chaotic. like if everything was together and not off doing its own thing. they have moments in songs where they're unified but for the most part they're just all over the place. it really just sounds like a bunch of technical exercises sometimes although i do like to listen to them every now and then

  • its called mixed meter. poly-rhythms

  • @BenadrylAnnug i know what it's called, but there are ways to use it so that it's not so chaotic

  • @BlackEarth

Might be counted as music by definition, but it still doesn't make it any easier on the ears...

Personally I prefer dissonance only as a tool to highlight the standard melody that comes afterward.

To me this isn't much different than some sort of random MIDI generator.

  • @BlackEarth yea i agree completely. If you like this you should check out composers like bela bartok and arnold shoenberg. I have heard a lot of similar elements in the string quartets of bartok that I hear in this music. its just that this is electric and a lot of people wont give a string quartet the light of day these days.

  • @BlackEarth good comment, except this isn't through composed, there are recurring themes (like in Schoenberg's music), only they are buried under very intense dissonance, and take a good few hundred listens to discover. That's what makes this kind of music so special, you can listen to it over and over again and get something new out of it, unlike most "math" metal, which is pretty one dimensional harmonically.

  • "BTA is not good.

That's a fact, there's nothing you could say to prove me wrong either."

haha! I like the way you argue.

  • what other bands use poly-rhythm?

    please list them.....

  • i know Dream Theater does for sure, Jordan Rudess's solo project probably does. mostly just progressive bands. i think Symphony X might. probably all bands that you already know. i've been experimenting with them, not much luck so far though

  • duh dream theater.. petrucci's a god

  • WHETER U LIKE IT OR NOT AN ARTIST PLAYING AN INSTRUMENT IS ALSO KNOWN AS "MUSIC"... MMMUUUUU-ZZZZZIIIIIIICCCCC

Gosh... hem I dont like rap music but it is still music, now if u wanna say its not music id like u to talk to couple of guy playing this kind of music to see what they have to say about the 12 key and different time signatures

  • If you've ever seen them perform it more than once you would realize that they play it the same every time. Painstakingly composed using impossible scales.

  • realy this is shit. sure if you want to say it makes musical sence but there comes a point were it still just sucks. and that twelve tone scale shit is bullshit. thats just the chromatic scale. no skill need since every note in western music is found on that scale. its alot of bullshit. and one who thinks this correct theory are a bunch of fucking wankers who dont know shit. p.s. this is not fucking jazz.... what fucking dumbasses

  • instrument are so fucking interdependant.. listen right

  • how can anybody hate this band? they are so unreasonably sick

  • Old school jazz spirit (like 20's) and progressive metal... May we could named it : "Alternatif experimental old jazz neo speed metal shred ambiance" or "jazz metal". But seriously, i think they must include in their work more populars musicals structures, cause they're amazing technicians. if no, Risk to fall in totale "cacophony" surely. Most of people would'nt understand the "avant-garde" of it and will considered this ever like a bullshit. But great job guys, continued.

  • its already like that man, they wont go the same place most band went to, been there, done that, they can surely play CC or Origin if they want to, but this is way more technical and fucking better (my opinion) but already at this point, lots of ppl think that BTA is only cacophony and random notes... they dont get the prog theme of music, (wich is kinda hard to deal with since theres no corelation between each instrument, there not following each other, there going separate way

  • "ppl think that BTA is only cacophony and random notes... they dont get the prog theme of music"

"they dont get the prog theme of music"

    "they dont get the prog"

No, maybe you just don't get music....

  • well maybe your just don't get the prog theme of music. lol you don't get the fact that you got to kick major asses to play something like that live

  • Not really, I don't see what would be so hard about playing anything live really.

Unless you just plain suck on your instrument, once you learn a song it's not too hard to repeat.

Regardless of technicality, memorization is memorization.

  • Do you play of any instrument ? i mean memorization is memorization yeah but dont push it some things are harder than others to play

  • @m1lky maybe u dont get diversity and evolution behind music, well i do, keep ur smart ass sentences to urself, coz this IS MUSIC, either u dont like it, it doesnt matter, it is music, I dont like shitty Kanye West but hes doing music either way, BTA own the shits hella noobish ppl like Bullet for my valentine and plain poser like underoath

UR ARE JUST A FUCKING MORON WHO CANT EVOLVED THROUGH TASTE AND THEREFORE WILL UTERLY BE BORED BY SAME OLD SHITS U LISTEN TOO

and i hate ppl like u

    peace

  • @m1lky you dont like it i dont fucking care, it is good music to me, thats an opinion but u cant say that is not music, thats my point, say u dont like em i dont fucking care, but they do fucking amazing music

  • See what I mean by you sound dumb.

It's been proven that BTA makes unlistenable music.

There have been studies to prove it.

  • There have been studies to prove you are lame. The cited studies are the above comments.

  • Comment removed

  • @m1lky Actually those studies are wrong because they have FANS that LISTEN to them.

Just because I don't care for a certain artist or don't understand them totally declassifies them as music. Just because I can't comprehend how ignorant and narrow minded you are, doesn't mean your not a human being.

  • Prove it.

  • @m1lky What studies? I think you are just pulling shit out of your ass to be a troll and you should just go watch videos you like instead of wasting your time commenting on things you don't even want to watch. Do you have a job or are you in school or something? You must not because you have enough time in the day to post a chain of several comments on a video you dont even want to watch in the first place.

  • Because it takes me more than 30 seconds to write a comment.....

  • ever heard of aphex twin? stfu before u diss "unlistenable music" go find a dark room and listen to brittany spears for the rest of ur life if thats what makes u feel good. ill stay in the light with my progressive mind bending goodness

  • Aphex Twin is horrible to.

People get to wrapped up in pretentiousness and trying to be different that they dont notice how stupid they look.

  • if by horrible u mean some of the best music in the history of mankind then yeah i can agree with you.

  • You're right! Fakers like Mozart, Bach, Ravi Shankar don't hold a candle to these guys.

  • @scsteeldrums im not saying that, im just saying that these guys wouldnt exist without those people before them to play for us "normal good music". Now, since we have had all the old formulas rewritten countless times, newer forms of music emerge.

  • What's new? Please point me in this direction so I don't miss anything. I would like to be optimist but everything that could be done has been done, unless someone is going to play standing on his head. Either way, if you close your eyes, it's only music. There are only two categories of music. Good music and bad music. And both categories are highly subjective. With less education, bad music is judged as good. Good music is in very small minority.

  • @micanut48 yeah its not "new" music but its new compositions, rather than the atypical. wether that makes it good or bad i guess depends on ur mood and ur musical education. but yeah its better to enjoy the music that argue about it.

  • i hated ravi shankar.

  • @DRGasMoney maybe, but theres no denying he is one of the most genius musicians in the last couple hundred years, unless you are eurocentric or ignorant.

  • 1: 59 is amazing lol

  • Everybody talking about scales, even the chromatic one, is way off. Theoretically this stuff is more in line with 20th century orchestral music (ie Stockhausen, Ligeti, Berio) than most/all metal and rock. Free expressionism without the constraints of scales. Once in a while they do have tonal parts (check the middle of Canada for instance) but the more dissonant, 'random' sounding material is more about making you follow the music intelligently to be able to comprehend and feel it.

  • Ermm... cephalopod... How exactly is a chromatic scale (you know... the one where you can use EVERY note) restricting...?

And most of their stuff is actually very confined into a extremely rigid set of musical rules to get a certain sound. It's called twelve tone technique - founded by Arnold Schoenberg. Honestly, it's a real bitch to write in, all tones have to sound equally and without any regular emphasis. Thus avoiding a tonal centre perfectly.

  • Comment removed

  • There are levels of pitch organization beyond the notion of a scale - such as non-octaviating sequences or intervallic cycles - and to say that BTA's stuff is in 'the chromatic scale' would just be a huge copout. Colin Marston has used Schoenberg's dodecaphony on whole pieces (Estrogen Pathogen Exchange Program) and for sections (Paincave) but [atonal] music has developed since Schoenberg's time - 100 years ago - and Marston knows that. He's more akin to Berio or Ligeti, I think.

  • Fair enough. You know what your talking about better than I. It just sounded like you were suggesting that the chromatic scale was in itself; limiting.

My bad. Sorry for the bother.

  • Sorry, That was to cephalopod.

Damn youtube and your reply limit!

  • love this band, and im just so happy gorguts got their warguitarrist to play with them

  • Comment removed

  • hell no

  • This is what we call "Genial".

  • It's cca 192.

But music ain't made of rhytm or scales, not even consistency. It's made of feelings. What did you feel listening to this?

  • it's called shifting signatures, dumbass

  • i think u doesnt understand the concept of being a progressive band and having different signatures in a song... this band isnt about playing in 4/4 on every song they play complex song with complex structure i cant tell u more im no musician but i know that u wont like this band if u only listen to it one time coz u need time n more than one listening to come to understand and like this kind of music, coz its complex, while simple stuff r easy n catchy so its easy to remember like rap or hiphop

  • Correct Jacothy, they ARE playing a chromatic scale, and yes, they base their songs on primarily atonal structures in accordance with Schoenberg's twelve tone technique. Yes, this IS intended to be unpleasant and uncomfortable to the ear, this is because we have grown listening to music rooted on a key all our lives. NO, they don't use consistency in their songs... That's sort of the point of disjointed music... expand your musical horizons man. Music isn't all meant to sound the same.

  • This is a perfect example of how being technically proficient in no way makes your music listenable. These guys are obviously fantastic musicians, but their songs are a steaming pile.

  • welcome to a new genre of music

  • what ppl don't get is that none of this is random... it's all deliberate... kinda like meshuggah... they sound random as fuck but it's all very well planned out... (btw i was not at all trying to say that these guys sound like meshuggah cuz they clearly don't but they're both confusing as fuck if u don't pay attention)

  • CARDCAPTORS!!!

  • I lmao'd.

    this is just soooo bad.

  • I love some well used, intricate, fantastically composed dissonance when used correctly. These guys are amazing.

  • Although I can tell the guitarist has great technical skill, it still manages to sound like none of them have ever played an instrument before. you can't just pile notes onto eachother at random.

  • It's what u call a progressive band and its a new one so they doing new stuff that not all ppl like but it is still great even if some of u doesnt like it and hes not doing random it as a structure behind it Its pretty hard to see bcoz its what a progressive band is all about

  • In that case, please tell me what gives this music it's structure(other that the technical parts). What scales did they use to get their sound? How exactly is it that the notes make any sense. Because all I see is a guy playing(forgive me) childish riffs made of simple consectutive notes.

  • I couldnt tell u coz im no guitar player :O but weve talk so much about them that I know that those r special structure n hard to understand theyre always changing tempo in their songs going from 150 bpm to 300... I cant tell u more I'm not a reference into guitar playing but my friends are and they play this kind of music wich u dont like but u can't deny that they are talented, u would of came out like that if you would have play childish riff on cd?????

  • The technicality of the music is obvious and highly advanced. But if you consider chromatic notes to be a scale, then whatever. I guess it's good. they sure do stick to chromatic. And don't judge me on stupid videos I didn't want to be make in the first place. also, 150bpm to 300bpm is just doubling speed, but I got the point.

  • you gotta listen to it carfully if u wanna really get what they doing its pretty complex at first i didnt like behold but after a couple of time i really enjoyed it bcoz after listening to it often I kinda "understand" where they going and what they do its just putting in words is kinda complicate... but after listening to it a lot of time I liked it its just hard to get it in one listening... thats my opinion

  • It's called the chromatic scale. Not to mention it is somewhat difficult to consider your argument valid when then extent of your creative contribution to the world is a startlingly unfunny "battle" with guitar hero controllers.

  • they're use a lot of chromatics... sorry there aren't any pretty major scales in there for u... i hear britney spears just realeased a new album tho so u're in luck...

  • Ok dude, first off the bat, way to beat a dead horse. Second, you do realizse that's impossible NOT to use chromatic scale, seeing as that would just be every note played consecutively. Third, don't act like some misunderstood dickweed saying I listen to Britney Spears, just because I don't listen to your shitty mathcore.

  • stop whining cuz u don't understand... just cuz u don't get it doesn't make it bad... sayinig that this isn't music because it's different is like making black ppl 3/5 person for having darker skin... it's an archaic way of thinking... grow up fag...

  • It looks more like you're the one who "doesn't understand". I'm the one actually uses some musical examples to support what I'm saying. You just use really bad analogies to try to make fun of me. I didn't say this isn't music, just that the notes have no correlation whatsoever. And do you realize how immature "grow up fag" sounds? It's an oxymoron.

  • the notes always have some sort of correlation... there are plenty of bands that use chromatics extensively... hell even victor wooten and steve vai use chromatics... just because these guys like to use them differently thatn u would doesn't make them any less talented... just cuz it's not what you want to hear doesn't mean it's not music... like i said... grow up... open ur mind up... something... or just stay the hell outa here if u don't like what u hear...

  • btw it's very cute how smart u "try" to sound... not ever song is going to be in 4/4 or a major key or in any particular key that u can easily point out... chromatics are part of music... as are abstract time signatures... they're not common but it doesn't by any means make it wrong... u sir are a close minded moron...

  • Once again, I didn't say it's not music. Also, who said anything about 4/4 tempos or major keys? I can fully appreciate that the guitarist and bassist can play complex rythms and clearly know their instruments, and the drummer is amazing. BUT the only problem is that the notes seem to be played simply because they're right next to eachother. I fully appreciate every aspect of music.

  • And btw we pretty much sound the same in how "smart" we try to sound. Why do you assume I'm some close minded moron? I listen to alot of different genres of music and I don't know why you're so pissed. All I'm saying is that their music could use a little sense to the notes. The tempos, clarity, aggression, whatever are all excellent. But I guess they did it all intentionally so whatever man.

  • i kinda get what u're saying about the chromatics but i don't think the complexity of the note combinations is what's important here... i think it's more timing and dissonance... the only time the scales are important is when a discernable melody is present...

  • This is a good quality video. Is this from the OOP DVD?

  • damn i need this dvd

  • i came @ 2:11

  • every time i hear something from this band i have a sudden feeling of great evil inside my head like the darkness surrounding every angle around me and bats encircling me like im some kind of sick evil murderer i cant describe the weird sick twisted images thats inspired from their music O:

  • 0:21 haha

  • Anyone who likes this should listen to Psyopus ....

  • Psyopus are ok, but there's no comparison between the two, and they're nothing alike.

  • Ah yes, the wonderful Hi-tone bar. I love that place.

  • Saw them play there this year. It was amazing, I talked to Colin for like 15 minutes before the show. Good guy. Mike was mad drunk lol and didnt know that a band was opening for them that night. ROFL

  • That's funny. You know a lot of people think of them as "Math Metal" or something. I guess they use that term for metal music they can't understand. I don't know. They are technically amazing and you definitely need a discerning ear to enjoy music like this. I won't lie, it can be difficult to listen to a lot, but they are VERY TALENTED none the less.

  • most different band ever..thats why people hate them..HAHAHA haters are promoters so keep it up guys!!im sure behold loves it that people say they suck..because over all they dont want to be some mainstream band that never playes original stuff and has to have a singer to show their feelings..FUCK that.people who need their singer have little brain power..music is the higher form of speaking some of you just cant handle their information...THE END

  • Worst band EVAR.

  • Actually

    Fuck the serious what

  • man thats the best comment ever!

  • seriously

    what the actual fuck

  • Colin Marston is the best

  • wow

  • Ok, Ill go by genre. Led Zeppelin, Shinedown, Theory of a Deadman, Blackstone Cherry, Aerosmith. Alot more but I cant think right now. Im just saying they suck and thats my opinion. Dont flip over an opinion.

  • hahaha Worst Band Ever

  • you guys are really interesting and unique. very cool music and believe or not i like the melody. somehow this stuff makes a lot more sense then stupid head bashing metal. keep up the good work!!!!

  • thes guys have telent and their songs are complicated, but they don't sound very good to me. they seem to play some of the least melodic stuff i've heard before. they focus only on complexity while they should try to mix complexity with melody.

  • Thank You! Ill enjoy my budding career as a rock band too. Unlike this piece of shit band.

  • That's just fucking brilliant. Enjoy your budding career in musical critique....

  • I can see that these guys have a lot of talent, and that they're amazing musicians, but something about their sound just drives me a bit nuts.

Probably the incredible amount of noise.

Also the fact that I don't like this genre in general helps too.

    I've seen worse though.

  • These men are fantastic.

I'm going to see them August 18th in Memphis.

  • It's so freaking TIGHT!!!!!!!!!

It sounds just like the album!

    Insane!

  • this song makes me want to punch a ethopeon baby

  • this song is about an epic geography themed spelling bee and its participants proper use of articles.

  • i really dont care hat its about this band sucks

  • You should care about hats... and sentences too. It hurts them when they get mangled like that. You should really stop watching things that you think suck. Now that is just fucking stupid.

  • grallaman is a faggot. a faggot that wants to punch Ethiopian babies and doesn't care about hats. i don't understand that.

    anyways, good band. 5/5

  • You fail. Stop trolling.

  • this whole band sucks serious ass

  • BURN THE TROLL!!

  • dude, i'm sorry you find it necessary to keep coming here and saying the same 8 or 9 words. Why don't you school us then meathead....what should we be listening to? C'mon and tell us what is holy in your musical bible? Lend us your infinitely wise taste so that we may set ourselves free of this earhole tyranny we've been calling music...

  • ok dude first disturbed - indesturctiable , pantera - cemertary gates, metallica - battery come on pick any one of theis bands songs they all rival this shitty annoying bands songs

  • Disturbed.....pfffffft. You just tol
