You're right, tipping is common in France, but there's a difference : In some USA restaurants (i don't know if it's a few of them or a majority), the tip is obligatory and is even on the bill. In France, tipping (or not) is up to the customer, he doesn't have to if he estimates the service was really crappy... But otherwise, you're right, those who don't tip are considered as tightfisted people.

You can eat vegan at non-vegan restaurants. To be honest, I love milk and meat, full of amino acids. Non-vegan can still be healthy food, and you can have unhealthy vegan food which isn't nutritious.
