Guys calm down I just went today for 3 fillings and a cavity tooth pulled out the gel stuff is gross but you hardly feel the needles other than a little prick... And unless your dentist is a sadistic crazy person they will wait until your completely frozen to do it seriously... You feel nothing...
For those that are worried.. the procedure really is painless... it may be a little uncomfortable in the way that you have to keep your jaw open, and you can hear and feel him poking around in your mouth, but its really nothing to worry about.
After the procedure i suffered no pain whatsoever either, maybe a little dull ache but thats all.. the only annoying things about having a tooth extraction is not being able to smoke, eat what you want (sometimes) and keeping the hole clean.
to be fair though, i think having a tooth extracted is less of on ordeal than getting a filling; with a filling there's some grinding and drilling involved. I'd rather have a tooth pulled than a filling (although I do want to keep my teeth)
If your novacaine is left in the heat or at room temperature to long and the novacaine breaks down so that it is no longer an effective anesthetic, could you substitute liquid benadryl as a local anesthetic? I was wondering because a dentist told me that he had to do this one time and that the benadryl actually worked. He said that you had to use a little bit larger bore needle and you had to push on the plunger harder because benadryl is thicker.
my tooth filling fell out. Its the second farthest tooth from my upper left jaw thing. Im not sure if dentist will take it out. I hope he or she does bc i have a huge black whole there.
It was a good video sir but give it try in african wisdom it will toss u up side down, when u r short of anesthetic and u have an option of only 1% without adrenaline.
When I got fillings last friday, the dentist gave me laughing gas. With the laughing gas and gel I did not feel the shot. Do you use laughing gas on your patients?
im 12 and im taking out 2 adult teeth today in a few hours :( im really scared, but good thing its not any front teeth! im reallly reaallyy scared.Iv done it once and i didnt feel a thing but that was wwith my baby tooth!!
Also concerned about a Dry Socket. I'm haven't been feeling any pain since the tooth was extracted. But If I begin to do.. should I rush to my dentist immediately ?
DrGordon 2 days ago I had an infected tooth extraction. I was told by many people & dentist itself that I would feel no pain whatsoever in the whole procedure. But infact I had to go through so much pain even though the dentist was doing everything great & applied the anesthetic as needed. The pain was almost unbearable but I didn't let the procedure stop because of that. What could be the reason for so much pain ? It was so painful that I feel scared for the rest of my dental treatment.
Dr. Gordon, I had my lower left wisdom tooth removed yesterday, and my lower lip and chin are still very much numb. I read that this was because the nerve is either damaged or was cut. I am 23 years old and the oral surgeon I went to said that the procedure was very simple. Is there anything I can do to speed up the healing process of the nerve? How long would you say my mouth will feel numb? Is there a possibility that this is permanent? Thank you in advance.
@IdioticGeek The numbness could be caused by the procedure or trauma from the injection. Give it a few days, then go back to the oral surgeon if you are still having problems.
@IdioticGeek this happen to my wife as well it took her a few years before it returned to 90% gone. Not a nice side effect they never really tell you how often this really happens.
Does it sound horrible? I am getting two teeth out (don't know which ones) and I am not scared about the extraction, it's the horrible crunching sound! I might bring my iPod but even then, I can still hear things internally! I have the choice of being sedated, but don't wanna embarrass myself. Help!
im getting mine out soon, since she is signing the release forms in the room, do i need to if i am under 18? my mom has to right? sorry for the stupid question.
Dr Gordon, if ever I were to extract all my teeth, I will surely come over to you :)
I have a decayed molar and my dentist (caring dentist) tried to save it. First, he removed the decayed part and put a paste on my molar. He told me to come next week to get the filling done. However, during this one week, I am experiencing some pain, like a sudden sharp pinch in my gums. Do you think I need to have my molar extracted?? Thanks f in advance for your advice
Ya Doc, but you're very knowledgeable, nice, confident and seem like a real pro, but what about other dentists? I'd feel OK with you but I'm in LA and have to take my chances with dentist that dont look well equipped and dont appear to be half as competent. Still, I do feel better about having to see a dentist tomorrow for an extraction and a filling after having viewed this vid. Thanks
I had a tooth extraction about a year ago and it was a horrible experience. My blood pressure shot up to 204/144, stroke readings! Today I went prepared! I took a little nerve tab which my family physician ordered and did OK! A little nervous, but I managed. Some of us just don't do well at the dentist no matter how many vids we watch, how kind and caring the dentist is, etc. Not fun, but with the nerve tab I can manage.

I need to have my wisdom teeth extracted. Do I have to go to an oral surgeon or can I have a general dentistry dentist do the procedure?
Also, can I have them extracted all at once?
My left-side upper and lower wisdom teeth have erupted through the gum, as well as the lower right one. However, the upper right-side wisdom tooth has not erupted through the gum.
Dr. Gordon I have had one wisdom tooth extraction and recently one molar extraction and after both procedures I have developed small blisters on the inside gum area below and around the site what I want to know is is this typical or might I just rubbed my tongue too much in that area and maybe caused this myself? And for the record I did keep aggrevating these areas with my tongue.
Very informative. What kind of numbing medicine did you use? I swear my dentist doesn't even numb before she inject so I fill the needle go down and the medicine she uses wears off on like the first tooth and sometimes seconds as when she starts to drill when she applys pressure it hurts. Sigh. What to do.
I got 2 teeth removed today. Hurts. But not as much as when i got all my impacted wisdom teeth and two molars out (I got a sedation and all 6 teeth all out at once. TRUST ME i do not recommend doing it all at once. HORRIBLE PAIN. If anyone has an option to get 1 wisdom tooth removed once at a time GO FOR IT. NEVER get all your wisdom teeth removed if your not expecting pain.)
Can you still pull the 3rd molar if it's already erupted but has curved roots? I've had 2 say they need to cut it in half and then i've had one say he can extract it!
Is it normal for the other side of your mouth to start hurting, I got my upper right tooth removed #2..naw my jaw and ear hurts and the left side of my mouth well the teeth are aching I got my extraction 3 days ago.
i have badly damaged teeth in my whole mouth....i was told by several dentists that im looking at having all ALL my teeth pulled out and wearing dentures..my insurance wont cover the whole cosmetic procedure including the mask and surgury while asleep..so it will be done awake..i cant afford to have dental cosmetic surgury or implants so im facing with future dentures. if i showed u a pic of all my teeth u would prabablly pull them out also..what are my changes of having removable dentures.
@zijad1995 Thanks! I got them out yesterday. I got a sedation so it was all good. Weird though cos I can't remember anything! But I've got stitches either side of my mouth now so it looks like I'm on soup for the next few days. =(
Hi- I've been getting cleanings every 3 months for the last 5 years... I use peroxide & brush/floss twice daily - basically investing quite a bit of cash to prevent any cavities - (Never drank soda) each cleaning I end up needing a cavity filled- & my last 2 fillings was Friday- my upper right molar now hurts (Never did before the filling) & my dentist said I need a root canal! - I'm gonna just have them pulled! - Dentures are cheaper! Is is possible all the fillings is WHY I need a root canal?
I have a cavity tooth that needs to be removed. Most of it has been decayed, so I can't do a root canal. How would they extract the cavity tooth when half the crown is gone? Would it be "more" painful? Could the other half of the crown break in the middle of the procedure, and I'd have to have oral surgery to remove the base??
I may need 3 or 4 teeth out... I've never been to a dentist, I've always been scared but when I heard the word "risks" I definitely don't wish to go now. I have high blood pressure!
hello Dr. gordon would you recomend to do an extraction to a tooth under primary infection? I always prescribe antibiotics 7 days before the procedure, reduce after infections and the epinefrine works better.
@anwar85 You are almost always better off removing the tooth right away. It is very rare that I need to give someone antibiotics prior to extracting a tooth. The only reason is if I could not get the patient numb enough to do the procedure.
i had two of my wisdom teeth removed that looked like the first one removed, my doc cut and cut and even used a laser, the five stitches later each they were out and hurt like a bitch afterwards....that was done wrong right?
I just had two teeth pulled, use to be scared to death of the dentist, after extraction i haven't felt any pain, the worst part of the extraction was the shot that numbs you from feeling anything, and it wasn't terrible.
Is there any way that I will be put to sleep? because I am really phobic about teeth removals. I had a bad experience once and all I want is to be asleep. Can I be put to sleep?
i am having a root filled tooth took out on the 20th of april and i am gettin sedated (the one that you are still consious) i am nervous about it can anyone give me advice to help me not crap myself?? thanks.
I want to remove this tooth the hell nothing scares me because my tooth that needs to be remove is very very painful ..................................
I had 5 out yesterday by an excellent oral surgeon. Honestly the worst part was the shots--and the pre-extraction TERROR. I felt quite good, though tired yesterday and feel really good today. Very little swelling & no bruising at all.
Will it hurt if I have two injections on each tooth thats going to come out (That means one in front, one behind)?
Because I need two out in a few weeks, and another two the week after that and im a bit nervous. I hate blood but my brother and my friend have had teeth out from the same dentist and they say its fine.
So will the extractions hurt if he puts two injections into each tooth?
Can't definitively say wether it will or wont. The Articane that Dr. Gordon uses in this video is really good as it perfuses through the bone and achieves awesome analgesia. What your dentist might do is use Lignocaine or some similar product, in which case he'll probably do intra-ligamentary infiltrations which may hurt. Generally you should't feel anything during the procedure if adequate analgesia is established, its the post-op pain that kills.
K I had 2 extractions the first was a little wiggly the other NO. Now Im not going to yell when thay say painless injections yes u wont feel it that much but afterwards it will hurt a little. Lucky for me I asked fir another injection and that helped so ya.
I need to take 3 teeth out at once, 2 wisdom and 1 broken molar. I am terrify for my life, I have always been scared of dentist.. And to top it all, the dentist that's performing the surgery I don't know him from a whole in the world :(
oh my god! i need to get a total of 5 removed but i don't want to do them all at once! i'm so scared, 4 wisdom and one broken molar!!!!! it looks painless i'm afraid the doc will be stingy with the shots & i've always been really freaked out about teeth coming out!
the tooth extraction is so easy i had a filling done ad then my dentist noticed a baby tooth that needed to be pulled so he gave me two more shots and i felt nothing it was painless
Well, I just came back about a hour ago from a failed root canal. Appanently the drill bit that they use to clean the canal out broke off in it. the dentist said it was too far down to be recovered. and that it needs pulled now. So i get to have this done in a few days, I didnt feel shit with the canal procedure, so I think I'll survive the extraction . I'm still abit nervous though....
I just had a tooth extracted a few hours ago. There was no pain whatsoever during the extraction. The only thing that slightly stung was the lidocaine shots. I got 5 in all, I felt 2 of them, by the time they did the other ones I didn't feel a thing.
My tooth was 90% gone, so extraction was the only option, it came out, the dentist had to split the tooth and remove each one. All I felt was pressure... NO PAIN during the pulling.
I'm home now and yes there is some pain where the shots were given, but the tooth itself FEELS GREAT! What a relief! This is far better than the pain I was in yesterday.
Don't be scared, please go and get it done if you need it!!! You will not regret it.
thanks for this video. i am getting a tooth out next week and i have been having nightmeres about it and crying and im not even in the dentist chair yet.
this video has help show me that it is not as awful as it seems.
i am still very scared but have realised now that the worst part will prob be the injection and that i have had done before.
I wish iv seen this video earlier today I had to get my wisdom teeth out I was so scared that I cry lol..and they said that I need to calm down before doing the procedure they wouldn't do it until then but after numbing it with orajel and then the neddle I was fine you can't even feel a thing but only a little pressure nothing major!!!! =)
@MattTheBhoy Ive had a tooth taken out for a spacer, and the fucking dentist didnt use number of any kind i was 8 and they had to literally RESTRAIN me
@yutaja Hey yea yutaja that happened to me and at the same age too. I had a bad cavity and they had to remove the tooth but the damn dentist didn't even use anesthetic. I cried for a week....
My wife's tooth is decayed (her molar) shes scared to get hers pulled but its chipping off when she bites something hard. So hopefully now she'll agree to get it done.
When I was in the Military, I had all 4 of my Wisdom teeth pulled at one go. From what I remember, it wasn't bad at all. I just wanted to make sure I didn't get a "dry socket", so I took care when I spit.
HI Dr Jerry Gordon! I have a question. My dad is going to have an extraction this thursday. His first molar on the right mandibular quadrant, and right maxilary quadrant second premolar both has lost crowns. And my consideration is can he have both of get pulled out or not? Is it risk of having 2 teeth extracted?
Well. I have to get two of my canines taken out, and i am really nervous. Should I be? and does it hurt? Also does the needle hurt and will where the tooth was bleed and be sensitive alot?
I just got home 30 minutes ago from having the exact same procedure done as the first patient. Absolutely painless and the actual extraction lasted less than 60 seconds. Like the dentist in this video, my dentist is very good. Have no fear!
Yesterday I had my #15 (rear) molar pulled with just a couple shots. I'm so phobic of dental stuff that even in cleanings I need novacaine. I wanted nitrous but the tank wasn't working and I'm glad for that. I fell like I made a breakthru. YAY for modern dentistry and rockstars for dentists! I got thru that procedure with a good dentists and A LOT of breathing skills and meditation. Hope this helps someone out there. My video is posted above as a response.
I posted my video as a response to yours. I only had "novacaine" for my extraction. Like the woman in your chair, I am phobic of dentists. Watching your video made me feel comforted in the fact that I am not the only one. In fact, cleanings are very difficult for me to under-go and I often need novacaine for them.
Thank you so much Doctor, for posting these videos.. I have a wisdom tooth extraction scheduled for tomorrow and i've been nervous all weekend about it. and thanks to your video i'm not nervous anymore :)
I had a bad tooth out today, recovering fine and was awake. First time being awake for a tooth out and I was really nervous. The tooth was a root canal that had broken down He didn't have to cut into my gums but get a nice grip and I could hear the crackling which was a little disturbing but now I'm recovering and have a stitch in it with some pain meds and no pain as of yet.
i wish dr. gordon was my dentist. i had an extraction and i felt severe pain, i had to be numbed several times during a simple extraction. my dentist was kind of jerky when i was telling him to stop because i was feeling actual pain, not pressure.
You get numbed up really good and put to sleep if needed. Other than that, it should be fine. I've gotten crown expansions and crowns put on, so I get how you feel.
Guys calm down I just went today for 3 fillings and a cavity tooth pulled out the gel stuff is gross but you hardly feel the needles other than a little prick... And unless your dentist is a sadistic crazy person they will wait until your completely frozen to do it seriously... You feel nothing...

JaySmitty33 1 year ago
It's not the extraction that hurts, it's when you go home!

i have badly damaged teeth in my whole mouth....i was told by several dentists that im looking at having all ALL my teeth pulled out and wearing dentures..my insurance wont cover the whole cosmetic procedure including the mask and surgury while asleep..so it will be done awake..i cant afford to have dental cosmetic surgury or implants so im facing with future dentures. if i showed u a pic of all my teeth u would prabablly pull them out also..what are my changes of having removable dentures.

@akamissrubytuesday i had fillings and now i have them being replaced with root canals idk bout you it probubly is??

I have a cavity tooth that needs to be removed. Most of it has been decayed, so I can't do a root canal. How would they extract the cavity tooth when half the crown is gone? Would it be "more" painful? Could the other half of the crown break in the middle of the procedure, and I'd have to have oral surgery to remove the base??

I have high blood pressure. How risky is this and are there alternatives?
Wolliom 1 year ago
I may need 3 or 4 teeth out... I've never been to a dentist, I've always been scared but when I heard the word "risks" I definitely don't wish to go now. I have high blood pressure!
Wolliom 1 year ago
hello Dr. gordon would you recomend to do an extraction to a tooth under primary infection? I always prescribe antibiotics 7 days before the procedure, reduce after infections and the epinefrine works better.
anwar85 1 year ago
@anwar85 You are almost always better off removing the tooth right away. It is very rare that I need to give someone antibiotics prior to extracting a tooth. The only reason is if I could not get the patient numb enough to do the procedure.

i had two of my wisdom teeth removed that looked like the first one removed, my doc cut and cut and even used a laser, the five stitches later each they were out and hurt like a bitch afterwards....that was done wrong right?
briggs9187 1 year ago
I just had two teeth pulled, use to be scared to death of the dentist, after extraction i haven't felt any pain, the worst part of the extraction was the shot that numbs you from feeling anything, and it wasn't terrible.

Sipper0 1 year ago
Can't definitively say wether it will or wont. The Articane that Dr. Gordon uses in this video is really good as it perfuses through the bone and achieves awesome analgesia. What your dentist might do is use Lignocaine or some similar product, in which case he'll probably do intra-ligamentary infiltrations which may hurt. Generally you should't feel anything during the procedure if adequate analgesia is established, its the post-op pain that kills.

going for a extraction in half hour so fricken worried
UnProBruce 2 years ago
Well, I just came back about a hour ago from a failed root canal. Appanently the drill bit that they use to clean the canal out broke off in it. the dentist said it was too far down to be recovered. and that it needs pulled now. So i get to have this done in a few days, I didnt feel shit with the canal procedure, so I think I'll survive the extraction . I'm still abit nervous though....

RSNSkillplayer 2 years ago
I just had a tooth extracted a few hours ago. There was no pain whatsoever during the extraction. The only thing that slightly stung was the lidocaine shots. I got 5 in all, I felt 2 of them, by the time they did the other ones I didn't feel a thing.
My tooth was 90% gone, so extraction was the only option, it came out, the dentist had to split the tooth and remove each one. All I felt was pressure... NO PAIN during the pulling.
simone56 2 years ago
I'm home now and yes there is some pain where the shots were given, but the tooth itself FEELS GREAT! What a relief! This is far better than the pain I was in yesterday.
Don't be scared, please go and get it done if you need it!!! You will not regret it.

thanks for this video. i am getting a tooth out next week and i have been having nightmeres about it and crying and im not even in the dentist chair yet.
this video has help show me that it is not as awful as it seems.
i am still very scared but have realised now that the worst part will prob be the injection and that i have had done before.
thanks again for posting this.

Ask for topical numbing jelly, they apply it to your gums. I didnt feel a thing, but my tooth was badly decayed so that hurt a bit.

I had a bad tooth out today, recovering fine and was awake. First time being awake for a tooth out and I was really nervous. The tooth was a root canal that had broken down He didn't have to cut into my gums but get a nice grip and I could hear the crackling which was a little disturbing but now I'm recovering and have a stitch in it with some pain meds and no pain as of yet.

i wish dr. gordon was my dentist. i had an extraction and i felt severe pain, i had to be numbed several times during a simple extraction. my dentist was kind of jerky when i was telling him to stop because i was feeling actual pain, not pressure.

pedicabdr1ver 3 years ago
OMG that is terrible!! Is this common to be permantly numbed like that? does it bother you at all?
ilianexy 3 years ago
i've gotten used to it. it happened like four years ago. it feels a little bit weird when i shave, but other than that i don't notice it much.
i think they snipped a nerve or something when they were cutting out the bottom teeth.
