  • Lovely dynamics and passion in your playing. I'm doing this piece for my exams. I quit piano over 10 years ago so it's difficult getting back into it. Video's like yours are so helpful, thanks.

  • Very pretty, one of my favorite pieces. But I do agree with imthedragonreborn, you could go a little slower, specially at the beginning, it's much more emotional, which is oh so important in this piece. Simple, yet very complicated indeed.

  • "Clubbed to Death 2" - Rob Dougan. I finally found the piece Dougan used for one of my favorite songs. Awesome.

  • do u use pedal ? i wanna know

  • @ps1367bcc37733 yes. Easy on it though.

  • So pretty :) I'm playing this piece for an audition, hope you don't mind if I use this for inspiration!

  • Jeez, you won't believe how much this helps me. I've known this song for a while, but I know the notes...listening to the changing tempos and the WAY you play the notes helps so much, now I'll be able to play it better, hopefully. Great job.

  • way too fast, it loses sense...you should put some emotion in your playing...but still good

  • @Imthedragonreborn Too fast? All the recordings I'm finding on youtube are faster than this. What recordings are you using as your reference point?

  • thank you so much. I only play be ear, though I can 'read' sheet music to determine what the chords are. your video confirms for me that this piece can in fact be played/mastered by someone such as I... a novice... since you have allowed me to see it done. And I love this piece. So much of Chopin's work 'sounds' simple; then, one looks at the sheet music... and weeps. thanks again.

  • Amazing , by the way i also do the same hand movement everytime i finish a quiet piece . Really nice :)

  • It is NOT chopsticks :P

  • you are good, watch the way you played..... when you good... you good

  • Great job! Do you know where I could get the sheet music for this?

  • congratulation ... very nice :)

  • The sheets i have say its a C chord

  • thanks 4 your help!

  • Clyfton, I am a new student of about my 24th hour of class in 8 months. I really want to play this song so I decided to just try it on my own an surprise my teacher. Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us. For the novice like me you are a blessing. I am so inspired and listen to this repeatedly. Any advise for me as I strive to become get better. I am learning on a Yamaha Digital P-95 that I saved up and bought because for the first 4 months I practiced on a toy with only 36 keys.

  • you are amazing thank you

  • Ugh I have to play this for a recital in 3 days and its killing me. The first part was easy but that second to last line! I'll just have to give it some intense practice.

  • That was amazing! I hope I can learn this piece…

  • Comment removed

  • Im going to learn this.

  • And here's a more modern interpretation:

  • The first composition i ever played at a recital. That was 1983. Many recital and yrs later it still sounds the same."Beautiful"

  • I thought I was playing it wrong but that sound identical to my version! =D

    Yay Good work!

  • i have to say i disagree with catapillarcheese33, if not for playing the same notes the classic peices such as this one would be constantly changed and eventually lost, it is imperative to perfect such peices. however i have to say that you played it gracefully, just remeber that a good ear and emotion are half of the whole.

  • I think that 54 that don't like it....... they just have no feelings or they justo don't have a musical sense

  • amazing

  • this is played very well nice job

  • Dood. Solid. But like... think of your parents being dead or something before playing this piece. It needs to be super frakking somber. You're a great player... but this doesn't captivate me emotionally like the original does. Don't take this as an attack! You did well joven Jedi.

  • I like your phrasing! :)

  • A cauça jeans dele está amassada

  • Actually this prelude is pretty simple but not easy at all to learn I learned it last year but there are some move pretty tough you really need to be focus on the melody and you have to know the music ! You can't play it just like that ! This is my favorite prelude with the 6 ! Thanks Chopin!

  • que bonita cancion

  • its really nice though third last cord is susposed 2 B A E, F sharp, B, E from the bottom up

    U did E, G, B, E.

Not 2 b 2 piky but WELL DONE BUDDY!! :D

  • @progamer9825 ah, sry bout the slip - that's what you get when you rely too much on your ears :)

  • @clyfton actually im pretty sure they are wrong. its is supposed to be E,E on the left hand then E,G,b,E ..just to clear it up so no one follows the wrong advice. but then again it doesnt make too much of a difference, play it as u like !

  • The sheet music I have says that the last chord is just a simple E minor. LH: EE and RH: EGBE. So, the last chord that was played is absolutely correct.

  • @sssprenger

you know it also depends i have the rcmp book, perspectives.

  • its really nice though third last cord is susposed 2 b a E, F sharp,

  • I plan to play this in my spring recital

    One of my favorites.

  • CAN YOU MAKE A TUTORIAL OF THIS?????

  • This just makes me want to play the piano so much more!! My brother moved out and took his :'(

  • Reminds me of my dear old Dad who could not walk past a piano without playing this.

    Lovely.

  • @groberts101 I like your Dad.

  • I saw you skip that A.

    Can't fool me ;)

    Sounds good, mang.

  • Beautiful thanks for sharing I love Chopin so much. :)

  • very nice and relaxing, good execution

  • Sounds great. What are the notes and fingers for the turn parte on the 16 time measure? I would appreciate your support.

  • seems a little faster than largo..

  • I can't clap, so I'll just give you thumbs up and say: Bravo!

  • simply beautiful .................

  • I liked it alot. I'm working on an arrangement of this for the guitar. Despite what some called "muddy," I think you captured the longing this piece is to convey; especially at the end.

  • A bit muddy, but the way you put emotion into this makes you kind of forget about the pedal staying down all the time, but if it isn't, you didn't pick it up enough to get rid of the muddy sound. Could use a bit more swell, as well as push and pull, but very good emotion, keep it up.

  • wow respectt

  • You really inspired me to keep working at this piece, clyfton! :)

You've probably been playing the piano for some time, but as a beginner I find it very hard to remember all the (numerous) chord changes in the left hand, especially in the second half of this piece.

How do you find it's easiest to remember what chords to play on the left hand: is it visually (remembering where your fingers are on the keyboard in relation to the white/black keys) or logically (e.g. Am chord, then Dm7 etc)?

  • @longtalker I can play this song too and a tip:

for remember the chord changes in the left hand mark the changes with a marker .. :D when you play it for a long time you can play it on your mind i think :D

  • wonderful! :)

    luv thus!

    <3

  • the ornaments notes should be played seperately or same time with chords?

  • @sinancans that varies over that song

  • I really like the way you play it. I think this piece its not hard to read it and fingers are not difficult but it's very hard to play it with sensibility and emotion, to achieve that deep sound...congrats

  • You have perfect piano hands :)

this piece is so beautiful, as is the other chopin piece you did

  • Comment removed

  • Right hand=Piece of cake

    Left hand=Totally different story -_-

I tried to play this, I could play right-hand from sight-reading. Left hand was like..."am I playing the right notes...?" T.T

    You're so good...it hurts...

  • you play this lovely..

i teach myself the piano, but im not this far yet!

keep on playing cuz ure great!!

    thumbs up for you!

  • Did anyone else come here expecting to hear it played slowly the way Allie does in THE NOTEBOOK ?

  • @0MissElizabeth0 What the fuck is 'the notebook?' I came here expecting it to be played correctly, like Jack in Five Easy Pieces. Thanks to clyfton for exceeding my expectations.

  • @2shadow1000 THE NOTEBOOK is a movie, based on an award-winning Novel by Nicolas Sparks.

It stars Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling.

    What planet are you from??

  • @0MissElizabeth0 Nicolas Sparks, Rachel McAdams, Ryan Gosling. I have heard of these people. I wish I hadn't.

  • Sweeeeeeeeeeet!

  • Played this for the recital over the summer.....I swear this piece totally stretched out my hands! I haven't practiced it since...damn, August! ....gonna go refresh myself...

  • I thought it was beautiful. my in-school piano teacher told me this was too hard for me so I wanted to prove her wrong, now I realize she's right i cant even get past the second line. ive been playing for a year but only have 41 minutes of class time and it gets me nowhere. its really hard and i think im gonna stop trying anyway, I WISH i could play it the way you did

  • @cartergirl3of3 Learn by yourself, I am learning bu myself for 10 months now and I can play this.

  • @Diffomega thanks, after i wrote my comment i practiced it at my house and i got like two more lines memorized with two to go, its frustrating though. and you can't learn EVERYTHING about piano by yourslef, sometimes u need a pro's help, but ill keep trying ;)

  • @cartergirl3of3 It indeed is frustrating, specially for me since...it's not that I'm not patient, it's just that I am too ansious and it makes me look impatient. But funnily enough, music is the only thing that I have all the patience in the world for.

Also, there are somethings that I recgonize that I will need a pro's help >_>

  • @Diffomega omg yess.....I can hear my piano teacher scolding me for that right now....

  • @IluvDallyWinston It's for a noble reason, don't let her stop you, know this, you can play whatever you want to play. Don't let people put limits to you. Music is not supost to work that way.

  • @Diffomega I'll keep that in mind:) The only problems I had were with note values and all that stuff...my piano teacher is great and all, but you just made me realize that she wants the piece...perfection. My mom....she adores how I play the piano, no matter how atrocious it may be. It's always good to have somebody there who loves everything you do (:

  • @IluvDallyWinston It's the other way aroud here, they hate me when I play the piano

  • I'm learning this as well :) It's beautiful...well done :)

  • really good, but despite the comments saying you need to sharpen up etc etc, I think it was brillant. just add some more texture and don't rush it, put your own twist on it and there you go, a very well performed take on the Chopin classic!

    love it!

  • Beautiful!!

  • Where did you get this piece from? Your keys are different than mine. 1:32 left hand

  • fantastic melancholic piano song

  • Another of my favourite Preludes of Chopin. What make is your piano? I wonder if you have learned and play no 20? I have uploaded a sound file of myself playing that. It is my first upload. Thanks again for sharing your talent.

  • i think it's really fine. i'm not a pro but i think you should play it more expressively and change a little the way you play this decisive moments to make it sound more like chopin :)

  • very similar to the composition of a beautiful Russian film "17 Moments of Spring" - did not say:) just have a resemblance!

  • check out my version of this, its a lil faster :P

  • I thought this sounded wonderful. I love this piece and this rendition was lovely to listen, too. Thanks for sharing.

  • amazing!

  • I find that this piece almost a way of touching someones heart in a certain way. In others words, very nice job.

  • Too fast, its a Prelude. Its Largo which is 40-60 bpm, not hating, still very well played just a little constructive criticism.

  • It wasn't too fast. I just started working on this piece and your interpretation really helped me get a better feeling of how it flows - especially towards the end. Thank you for sharing this :)

  • your video helped me when I was learning this masterpiece, thank you very much:)

  • too fast

  • I am from Argentine, your job is beatiful ! I love the way you play piano

  • Phenominal, much feeling in your playing, my mom used to play this all the time!

  • Seriously, you play beautifully. Regardless of some asshole who wants to critique your playing cause you "played something wrong" I didn't hear anything. The fact that you can play with so much emotion makes you a talented piano player. It's not the notes that make a piece sound beautiful it's the pianist. I've been watching your videos for quite some time now and I've fallen in love with the way you play. Please, for my insanity, keep making more videos :)

  • @CaterpillarCHEESE33 I agree with you, but many users in YouTube use comments to share their opinion. This is a wonderful prelude, maybe the best I ever heard, but I have to say my opinion: I didn't see so much emotion, so I give clyfton an advice: if I were you, I would play this prelude very, very slowly :)

  • @CaterpillarCHEESE33 It's not bad to critique it's bad to be negative of everything in this video. Balance in reviews is everything.

  • @CaterpillarCHEESE33

People are assholes because they comment on an error?

  • Nice job. This helped me relearn it after 30 years of not playing it!

  • fantastic. im just starting to learn the piano and this seems a long way off! what a great piece of music imbued with heart and feeling.to me it speaks of someone suffering a great loss..death of a loved one or child.

  • @bradshawvincent

i recommend you to watch lypur s channel from the begining. u ll able to play this piece within 6 months, but of course as amateur, if u work hard

  • @sinancans thanks for that i will check it out!

  • Beautiful!

  • i love this song, and i know how to play it, the problem is i dont play it correctly and give it the "feelings" u give when u play it. mine is like rough. hope i can improve it by imitating your play style

  • Once, I played this piece and began to cry ><

  • sure there were a few mistakes which i don't really mind, but the third last chord killed me! it should be an f# not a g in the right hand.

  • @l1is1the1coolest

Actually in all the written versions that I have of this, it is a G, not an F#. The notation might slightly change depending on what the copy your playing from. (My RCM book version is a bit different from an other old book I have)

  • @Willowheart4321 I have three old, large books all with this in it and they all say F#, so whaddya know. It sounds much better with an F# in my opinion anyway. You should try it.

  • leeny11. shut the hell up.//

    very nice!

  • One of my fav Preludes. You did a fine job. very nice.

  • THANKYOU!! Dont listen to lenny11 or whatever you were awesome!!

  • This is may favourite Chopin's prelude. GREAT!

  • that just made my day:) thank you!

  • je le joue aussi, je trouve qu'il est tres bien interpreté!!!

    merci de ce partage

  • Thanks :) Nice job :)

  • Beautiful!

  • there are 44 very stupid people out there

  • AAAAAAH C'est le beat d'ntm thath's my people :)

  • Thank you so much for making a video of this! I'm currently learning how to play it and am having some issues with the rhythm in the right hand part, and how it matches up with the left.. this video really helped!

  • Wonderful! I really doubted I'd find anything on this piece. After learning Moonlight Sonata, this was the next one I really wanted to play.

    Great work!

  • sublime ce morceau ...

  • very nice, very interesting version, though I can't exactly say why. Thanks and congrats!

  • i hate when people cares a lot about technique... if you can play the piano with your OWN techinque and your own style that's great, everybody can play the piano with their personal taste period.

  • Great!

  • Beautiful! Great job!

  • what kind of piano do you have?

  • i thought hand position was beautiful

i loved the overview camera shot

it was also nice to see you rest your hands until the notes completely faded

    awesome job!

  • Beautifully played, nice interpretation, dynamics came through clearly :)

@leeny11, his hand position is fine, in fact you are always supposed to have your hands slightly upward, for better control of the keys >_>

  • its flawless but you need to reposition the camera you cant see the notes your playing.

  • @MusicalRose23

I think he played it out of his mind like every good player...

  • @leeny11

    I didn't know I had a hard time finding the notes! ;)

  • @clyfton oh well maybe you don't, but it is still a good tip to remember i think. i have small hands for an adult so this was a struggle for me but i managed to do it if i lowered my wrist a lot. good luck in future .

  • @clyfton yea sure as hell doesnt look like it! awesome job you really play like a pro!

  • this is wonderful. Leeny11 is a douche. I can say that, confidently, with the knowledge that their account is now closed... probably due to their being so much of a douche.

  • @clyfton ~ I thought it was beautiful, wonderfully beautiful~

  • @clyfton

It didn't appear as though you had a hard tim finding anything. You played beautifully. It's amazing how you've learned your craft so well, yet there are people who must find fault in everything. Hand positioning my ass. Keep up the beautiful playing.

  • they should make a chopin cafe where they only play chopin music and i wud go there EVERY SINGLE FREAKING DAY. just cuz i <3 chopin so much :D

  • I want to learn this song really bad.

  • luv this nuce job :)

  • Nice!

  • Beautiful! :) I want to learn to play this!

  • wow really pretty. im currently wrking on this song. play it better than i. :)

  • Poor interpretation.

  • @noindians You just contradicted yourself. Idiot.

  • @bbvoncrumb Why do you have to offend me....?

  • can you do a 'how to play' and teach how to play this?

  • dammit that was nice.

  • Only thing i can really say is from 1:25 - 1:39 is faster that it should be, i admit i play it faster like the way you to it only because i think it fits better, but can't really argue with Chopin, other than that very good :)

  • This piece is extremly boring to me . :/

  • thank you so much for posting this! usually i teach myself songs by listening to my ipod and this was going to be so hard! It really helped to have the visual! Cheers! :D

  • Bello

  • I just got an upright piano today and this is the first song I am going to learn how to play on it. This video is very helpful. thanks

  • that was really good. i love piano music

  • This is a beautiful ssong played very well! Good job!

  • Ah!! Chopin should never be played on such poor quality sound recording.

  • excellent

  • Beautiful!

  • bravissimo

  • not bad.

  • ohhhh I use to love what you're playing. Definite and we see your hands. Perfect to learn the piece =D

  • Left hand too loud.

  • Not too fast, not too slow, and I nice touch of rubato in most of the right places. I like the hesitation at 1:18...just enough to make you stop and think. Just lovely. The turn was executed with particular care. Just a nice rendition.

  • Why do so many people make a big deal of how a person plays a piece. Unless specified, play it the way that suits you! For example, I have small hands but I'm a very musical person! So I have to find tricks to reach those notes :P

It's great! Love it . I want to play it now :c)

  • @burtv1610 its because there are certain ways a composer meant for pieces to be played and it is true that its hard to decide was IS right because we dont exactly know some of the great composers intentions for certain things to be played. In the old days they didnt even write phrase marks or anything because there just widely excepted ways on how to play things.

  • Very true. Some of the original manuscripts I have viewed don't use the slurrs and phrasing we see today in the EE editions of the music.

  • @burtv1610

What I never get, is why people with smaller hands don't get smaller piano's? Or arent there any?

  • @PowerRedBull Chopin used to play on a smaller piano. You don't hear about them these days though.

  • @burtv1610

it's only helpful criticism. being my age, i am a serious musician, and feel it my obligation to help others become better, as well.
