Bangkok is a fantastic city full of culture and wonderful palces to explore. I've been to Khao San once. And cannot figure out the attraction. Full of stinking backpacking white people, all getting their hair braided, and buying tacky souvenirs.

I got so wasted in Kao San. One moment I was sitting and drinking my drink at 11pm, next thing i know, I was dancing with a girl and it was 4am. It happened in a flash. I don't remember what happened in those 5 hours. came back home and passed out over the toilet haha

@MackemCook73 Spend an evening or afternoon there max. I never saw the appear of heading out to SE Asia only to go congregate in an area full of westerners. I may as well just spend the day in London. Get out of the city and check out places like Ayuthhya and Samutprakarn.

Khao san is pretty grimey but most of bangkok is too dude, you should understand that before going to Thailand... Stay on Rambutrri rd which has higher end accomodation and is a block away still right in the fun. I was just there last week, meet good people, good times and plenty of Beer Chang!!!
My first visit to Khao San was 7 years ago I saw 2 Thai men beat a western tourist he was lying on the floor but the 2 Thai men still kicking him!when his money felt out from his pocket one of the Thai men took it I was really shocked because I never seen anything like that before,the police came a few mins later and did nothing he only asked the 2 men stop beating him and not even arrest them! I've lived in Thailand for 6 years and only visited Khao San Road last week because a friend came over.
Full of Cheap Charlies, drop-outs and wasters. I had to pay for each drink as I bought it, instead of a bill at the end of the session as too many customers drink up and leave without paying. That's if they are in bars instead of sharing a bucket with several straws in, or buying from a 7 - 11 and sitting on the road.
I shudder to think what decent Thai people must think of foreigners.

Ask around Khao San for "At Home Guest House"... it's behind the Burger King at the end of the road. Pretty cheap rates there... about 350baht/night if I recall
any hotel where u see alot of (farang) foreigners go,,,, that is usally a more expensive hotel. Remeber this, nothing is "expensive" here if u take your time and see everything. Spend wisely.

Haha brings back some good memories. I went to Bangkok to train at Kaewsamrit for a few months, had a few good nights in the Khao San area, though I preferred other areas more.
Of course Kao San is not the "real Bangkok", but for a couple of days it is quite cool. I like the area around Rambuttri Hotel ... it is easy and chilled.

Yeah, this is nothing like real thailand, for nice beaches go to phuket, krabi or any islands down south.

Khao San road was better 18 years ago when I first went there. I was last there 6 years ago and it's so commercialised.
The small family run guest houses and restaurants are disappearing. Ahhh the memories...if only the street could talk.

Hmmmm, my girlfriend wants us to stay in a hotel thats close to this place, Khao San Road. After seeing what it looks like........I think I`ll pass on that thankyou very much. Khao san is pretty grimey but most of bangkok is too dude, you should understand that before going to Thailand... Stay on Rambutrri rd which has higher end accomodation and is a block away still right in the fun. I was just there last week, meet good people, good times and plenty of Beer Chang!!!

My first visit to Khao San was 7 years ago I saw 2 Thai men beat a western tourist he was lying on the floor but the 2 Thai men still kicking him!when his money felt out from his pocket one of the Thai men took it I was really shocked because I never seen anything like that before,the police came a few mins later and did nothing he only asked the 2 men stop beating him and not even arrest them! Me and my husband was absolutely shocked!!

There are many guest houses
hotels,pubs,restaurants(many of them are expensive)night clubs,food stalls etc in Khao San road, if you want a quiet,peaceful place to sleep Khao San road definitely not a right place for you,the loud music started around 8 or 9 pm until 4 or 5 am everyday,I put my ear plugs on but the pumping music still very loud!!If you like night life Khao San road probably is the right place for you

I've lived in Thailand for 6 years and only visited Khao San Road last week because a friend came over.
Full of Cheap Charlies, drop-outs and wasters. I had to pay for each drink as I bought it, instead of a bill at the end of the session as too many customers drink up and leave without paying. That's if they are in bars instead of sharing a bucket with several straws in, or buying from a 7 - 11 and sitting on the road.
I shudder to think what decent Thai people must think of foreigners.

Ask around Khao San for "At Home Guest House"... it's behind the Burger King at the end of the road. Pretty cheap rates there... about 350baht/night if I recall
