  • hey ya'all.....this is Freddie but it was early 70s when he was recording as Larry Lareux! This was waayyyyy before queen. Read, study!

  • Of course it's Freddie!

  • This is a Queen's cover. There are two version of the cover of this song by Queen, both of 'em with Freddie on the vocals. It's from the time when they were recording their first album at Trident, they also made another cover of I'm going back. Don't be stupid, this is a Queen cover, and i think it's better than the original version.

  • fake

  • So young and fresh

  • with all respect to Freddy, but Carl Wilson was really better on this song !!

  • Freddy, it's him. And he is the best.

  • What is this culture on YouTube, that EVERYTHING must be fake, this must stop

  • It's from their earliest recording sessions. I think Mercury called himself "Larry Lurid" on the studio tape box.

  • @Mozart1220 Larry Lurex,I believe. Cool name I think!

  • @Queenrock990 Right you are.

  • Does anyone know where this footage is from?

  • If this is freddie- he did a great impersonation of Carl!!

  • I can hear Frreddie in this, but it's hard to catch, you have to be a real fan to pick it out.... I honestly don't really like it, which makes me sad because I think Freddie has one of the most amazing voices ever put to recording

  • This is FREDDY YOU FUCKEN IDIOTS REALLY!!! I happen to be the biggest BEACH BOYS FAN on the planet and also a MASSIVE FAN OF QUEEN. This is not CARL WILSON. Get some fucken EARS AND LISTEN. IF ITS CARL SPED UP THEN HOW THE FUCK DID THEY CHANGE THE SOLO AND THE OUTRO REALLY DUMBARSES!!!

  • Yup... It says it's Freddie on Wikipedia... Go type in "I Can Hear Music"... I can't say I wasn't skeptical, though!

  • So idiots are debating if this is Freddie Mercury or not? I have nothing against retarded people but they shouldnt be allowed to post freely on the internet.

  • people tend to forget that freddie's voice was a lot softer then, this is definitely him.

  • sounds like carl wilson but a real queen fan knows this is Freddy

  • Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys sang this song the best. His voice was more sincere and had a more sentimental quality. Mercury's voice had more range and was better but for this particular song, the Beach Boys' version touches your heart more...

  • This is not Carl Wilson. None of the inflections are even close.

  • This is actually the first Queen single, but they released it under a different name called "Larry Lurex" The B-side was "Goin' Back"

  • I love all the different versions of this song, The Ronnetes, The Beach Boys, Kathy Tricolli, The Beach Boys version is the best though.

  • This is freddies voice no mistaking it . i love freddies take of this song havnt heard it in a long time thanks for posting , was the band called smile at the time this was recorded ??

  • Someone needs to clone Freddie Mercury!

  • Wow does not sounds at all like Freddie Mercury at all sounds more like the late Carl Wilson

  • This does not see to be Freddie Mercury, even the lip sync is all wrong. It does sound a little like Carl wilson more then Freddie.Peace ,Desiree

  • This is most definitely Carl Wilson - sped up a bit - nice try though!!

  • @jameschar24 Oh GOD ! ¬¬

Ok. Get early Queen songs from album "Queen" and "Queen II" and you gonna see Carl Wilson sing on them !!! (speed up a bit, of course) Its incredible !!! ¬¬'

    ........

This is FREDDIE MERCURY voice, NOT Carl Wilson.

Probably youre not a Queen fan and dont recognize Freddie's voice, because is obvious for any Queen fan that is Freddie singing

  • @XWKO ANYBODY who KNOWS Freddie's voice (like I do! Seen them in concert back in the day. When Queen toured the N/NJ/PA area, I'd go seem them Friday, Saturday and Sunday nites!! Anyway, Freddie has that slight **Lisp**in his voice that you can hear at the start and finish of certain notes- IT'S Freddie. It's those big teefers! Song is just a bit fast like "Seven Seas of Rhye" HE's THE BEST!

DestinyMe Queen Freak for over 30 years!!

  • @XWKO He's freddie, im a Queen fan :D

  • @XWKO THIS IS FREDDIE!

Larry Lurex was the artist name used for a musical project by Trident Studios’ house engineer Robin Geoffrey Cable, in 1972.

Cable enlisted singer Freddie Mercury from the band Queen to perform lead vocals on these tracks. (Queen were recording their debut album in Trident Studios at the time.) Mercury in turn suggested bringing his band-mates Roger Taylor and Brian May to add percussion, guitar and backing vocals to the recordings.

  • @jameschar24 this is definatly Freddie Mercury, i have the LP!!!!!

  • @Dourapatan What LP?

  • @V1llary

You lose internet points for not even searching the web. It's from In Nuce.

  • @timoswanson and you lose points for referring to a CD as an Album.

  • @timoswanson to be more precise, you lose points for referring to a CD as an LP. Go look it up. Try starting with something they call 'google'.

  • @V1llary

Oh no! A vinyl nerd! Btw, semantics.

  • @timoswanson it's not actually semantics. A CD is not the same thing as an LP. The song was never on an LP but it was on vinyl as a 7" single and later on CD compilations.

  • @jameschar24 IDIOT

  • @jameschar24 I agree they have a similar voice but this is obviously freddie

  • @jameschar24 u plonker!!

  • @jameschar24 I'm a die-hard Beach Boys and Queen fan. This is definitely Freddie. But I have to give this one to Carl, he was better on this song. This is such a cool taste of Queen in their earliest days even if not technically Queen.

  • I'm pretty sure this was recorded before Queen.

  • Comment removed

  • oh my!!! everytime i hear this song i picture freddie going up to heaven and singing.... I CAN HEAR MUSIC!! III CAAAN HEAR MUUUUUSIICCC..!!

  • Great music :) This is the first time I listen to this but it enchanted me :)

  • Great stuff from Queen...wonderful guitar work, yet again, from Brian

  • Comment removed

  • It is definitely Freddie Mercury and Brian May on Guitar. I had that single, plus it is well documented. If you listed to them back to back, they are different..... and even if you thought it was not Freddie, how could you miss Brian May's signature guitar playing????

  • Comment removed

  • @nasproperties22

If you only had ears ...sorry for you :-) sweet sweet music

  • @xpeace77

You're right - it is Freddie and Brian. I bet my ears are better than yours my friend....oh well

  • @nasproperties22 Holy Crap! Are you kidding?! Queen (minus John Deacon) did do a cover of this song and the fact that you're confusing them with the Beach Boys is........scary. lol.

  • @Templar2112 Not really. Both bands have great, otherworldly harmonies.

    But it is Freddie.

  • @nasproperties22 Check the phrasing (and the "strings"). Absolutely NOT the Beach Boys. The guitar break is proof enough. The percussion is the ONE thing they copied to a "t".

  • Its interresting Freddie Mercury has alot of voices :o

  • great immatation of Spector's Wall of Sound!!!

  • Freddie Honey You Beautiful Sweetie That Voice Of Yours Is The Most Stunning And Lovely Thing I've Ever Heard And On Top Of That You Have A Lovely Personality And Oh I'll Just Get It Out! FREDDIE I LOVE YOU!!

  • GRAANDE GRAANDE, GREEAT IS THERE ANYBODY THERE WHO CAN SING AS WELL AS FREDDIE???

  • GRANDE GRANDE GREEEATTT, IS THERE ANYBODY THERE WHO CAN SING AS WELL AS FERDDIE?

  • WONDERFUL! I love this beautiful song!

  • awful, this sucks harder than mercury

  • @smittersmitter it's tomorrow. 11/24/1991

  • ... sounds like the beach boys

  • This song reminds me of Funny How Love Is

  • I was at the Rock n Roll HOF and bought a CD called Queen in Nuge. This was on it along with Goin Back and a couple songs from Smile. It got stolen when my house got broken into. Wish I could find it again.

  • el mejor Freddie

  • Nice catch!!! Maybe 0,5 tone less yet or not? Thought this is very similar to what we get on Queen II.

I suspect Show must go on is also high-pitched. What's your opinion?

    Great post, thanks!!

  • @macporteiro Thank you. Yes, I remember about Was That I made the change in music was about 0.5. And on show must go on perhaps Had a slight change in pitch, but I don't think much about it

  • @macporteiro

You are completely right my friend. Show must go on is high-pitched. This is not Freddie's natural voice, especially a couple of weeks before his DEATH. It doesnt change a GLIMPSE of his genius, but it has to be mentionned, cause this song is completely IMPOSSIBLE to sing in the tone he used. He's still human my friends ! By the way in this song the reverb is extremely well studied, perfect work has been done in studio ... Very few people noticed this !

  • @jadoz How do you know that The Show Must Go On is high-pitched? I was always amazed at how perfectly he sang it, considering that he was almost dying,so I would be a bit disappointed if I knew that it is not completely "real".

Anyway, high-pitched or not, he is and will always be THE VOICE

  • @resilvina

Yes of course as I said earlier it doesnt change a GLIMPSE of his AWESOME talent. I just tried to PITCH DOWN the show must go on and it revealed to be more natural and closer to the voice he had at THAT period ( i'm going slightly mad ... etc)

Try the experience ! And try to sing it :)

  • @jadoz I prefer to believe that he was so AWESOME that he could sing it just as we hear it! Yesterday I was listening to it... goosebumps!!

Anyway I'll try and pitch it down to see what it sounds like :)

  • It's Freddie, alright...

(too much energy in the voice to be someone else anyways :)

  • Yes, this is freddie mercury. I first heard this on the radio in Los Angeles when they were interviewing freddy during the "news of the world" tour. Thanks for posting it. I long ago lost my copy.

  • Woke up singing it<3

  • Freddie was so versatile, with an unmatched vocal range...and Brian,s guitar work at the end is brilliant...

  • Check out my cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody". It's my tribute to genius of Freddie!

  • It's not that Freddie was rushing it, it's simply that they made the tempo faster. The Beach Boys do own the song as it was originally theirs and the original does have a better production but hey the Queen version were when they were just starting out.

  • Yet the first years were their best.

  • No, not originally done by the Beach Boys, but by one of Spector's groups.

  • Nah Nah, The Ronettes were the originals with this tune, three years before The Beach Boys covered it.

  • ladyman

  • Why are there versions with not a real voice?

  • It is a real voice. It's just sped up a little. A lot of artists do that.

  • @Osiris12345 It sounds bad when it's sped up.

Was the single version of Larry Lurex back in the 60's sped up too?

  • Carl Wilson's (Beach Boys for all you dumb fucks out there) version is simply better, and it's the best version that ever will be of this great song. I love Freddie's vocals as (yup, I own the Best Of Queen on CD) much as anybody, but this version makes it sound like it's a song from a Broadway play. Mercury's voice is way too high for this song, and it distracts and takes away from the song's brilliance. Nobody has ever been able to stir the listener's emotions like Carl Wilson's version does.

  • I'm a huge Beach Boys fan, but I have to admit this version has a great sound to it. It has a Spector wall of sound,(big fan of also) that even Spector himself I feel didn't capture in the Ronetts version.

  • Listen to Carl Wilson sing this classic, and immediately after listen to Mercury's version. Freddie seems to rush through the song as if he knows he's late for a flight and the taxi outside has been waiting 20 minutes. Lost in this version is the killer harmony the Beach Boys are famous for, and the background music here sounds very computerized. It's nice...but it's still the "Broadway Musical" version of a song that the Beach Boys will ALWAYS own....

  • @colderbeer funny we hear differently. instead of a frazzled traveler, i hear him eschewing a word by word interpretation. just a pop starlet's sweet tone used as PART of wall of sound (hence the jokey lurex name:1-off experiment they're not banking career on.) his tone has inherent musicality in scaling the heights, dashing skyward exhilaration (less disneyfied, more miyazaki's magical innocence/fairy tale.) carl is earthbound adult intuits music thru life, THIS is lavish pop fantasy.

  • @colderbeer in short, just pure cocaine-grade ear candy:D

the "worth" of that "purity" is up to each buyer's discernment.

  • its not higher than carl's tho

  • @colderbeer apparently the "larry lurex" project was for trying out spector's production using trident equipment, so this is like freddie as the fredettes - i.e. it follows the ronettes take. it's degrees removed from following carl wilson, in project goal. OTOH diana ross supposedly used freddie's version of Going Back for her take. freddie solo always groups closer to torch/disco-pop/opera divas.

  • que dices?Los Beach Boys la hicieron por primeros pero los Queen la hicieren otra vez!

  • this is on Freddie Mercury's Lover of Life Singer of Songs album

  • which album is this from?

  • mercury is a best voice ever , best musican ever , best man ever!!!!!!! Freddie live forever

  • @FreddieMerkury Carl Wilson sings this much better, though. Carl is the most underrated voice in popular music.

  • This was the first time I ever heard the song and I've loved it ever since!

  • why real voice? the other version is his real voice, too, isn't it?

  • in the other version his voice is high pitched.

  • is this arranged or is it his real voice in two different ways of singing?

  • Yes. This is the voice of Freddie Mercury

  • @XWKO Yes you are right is so Freddie

  • @XWKO yep n mistaking freddies voice havnt heard this track in a long time used to have a cassette tape of b sides and rarities this was on there thanjks for posting ! hey was the band called smile at the time of this recording ??

  • Dude...it is indeed Freddie. In a pre Mercury incarnation. Fucking awesome if you ask me, or even if you don't.

  • @fonzhom yeah, this is Mercury.

    Very young ;)

  • @fonzhom it is Freddie, but for some reason, the pitch of the track has been lowered

  • @fonzhom If you don't recognize Freddie's voice... You're doomed!

  • @QueenWebster exactly!! Carl Wilson? Like seriously, wtf

  • @fonzhom seems to be Carl Wilson but if you hear how he pronounce the S you can say is Freddie

  • yes, this is his real voice, but when he was much younger, and called larry lurex, and made this song, that was also his real voice!! it's not a speed up version, as some claim! voices change, bodies change!! so, please give him credit!! i love both versions!

  • I just looove this...

    Tears in my eyes..

Thank you so much for posting.

  • Love this!! : )

  • I suppose you'd have had to watch Freddie for a while to see that this here is a dub over Liar.

Good try though. no candy cane.

  • Not an overdub Louise. I have the original 33 rpm vinyl. Unless your talking about the Phil Spector sound.
