This song is about marijuana. The songwriter, Barry Devorzon, who owned Valient Records told me so. He had denied it for years. There's an interview with him at Alyce Faye dot com.
Wow...I never knew this slower live version existed. Upon first hearing, it seems moodier and deeper than the better known/original version. There is something about hearing the lyrics more clearly and swaying through the music in a less rushed and hurried manner (with less "punk' or "grunge" attack) that give this version a lot of force. Also, the vocals are less strained.
The Association will make their first New York City appearance in over 10 years on Friday July 23. The concert will be held at BB Kings supper club NY NY. I have my tickets.
Great video. I am going to see The Association & Jay And The Americans on Valentines Day Feb 14 2010 at The Palace Theatre in Greensburg PA (Pittsburgh).
This version is infinitely better than the original recording. Faster does not always mean better IMO, but I guess it's all a matter of preference. I just dig the slow methodical groove of this one.
OMGod, I adore this version...it's less punk than the original, but stonier and spacier, and I can understand the lyrics for the first time! It's fantastic!
Slower...faster - makes no matter to me. These guys are GREAT! I can't believe they're not in the R&R Hall of Fame and yet people who can't even be construed as R&R have been inducted. Sad and makes the R&R Hall of Fame selection committee seem like pathetic thickees.
I can't believe I've never seen this before! THANKS.

I like the way the faster version sounds better, but with this version, I hear the lyrics better and the way it is drawn out emphasizes them more.
