  • Nice homage to a great song--nothin can top Skip tho--his version makes ya wanna fly to where the song comes from---

  • what a sullen group of hipster children, goin' through the motions. has he once again found no inspiration to create a classic of his own? Stop fucking with classic material you stuck up pigs.

  • @oatstao This is the most intelligent comment I have ever read. Your words should be written down and printed on the back of all currency so that future generations may know the great wisdom of oatstao. I can see it now: "In God we trust*

*stop fucking with classic material you stuck up pigs"

    Fucking brilliant

  • @oatstao What's wrong with Beck covering this song? He's got heaps of classic super sexy music. Sea Change, Guero. To name 2 of the many examples. A cover is someone paying respects and playing a song they like. Nobody can beat the classics, sure, but that's not really what covers are for. The cover hasn't fucked up anything, as the original is still there exactly as it was. Loving the original though. Oar am I? (Yes, I am. I was just going foar a pun. ... ... Funny.)

  • @oatstao Beck has been creating innovative music since the late 80s. This song is part of his part of his Record Club project in which he gathers a group of musicians to cover classic albums in a single day. Not only does it take talent to emulate great works in such a short period, but it is also a huge sign of respect. Beck isn't creating derivative works, he is paying homage to the artists that helped make him. Stop being a troll.

  • thanks for honoring my dad...would love to sing with you someday!

  • i love at the end where EVERYONE, on cue, focuses their instruments for the feedback, then all look at one another, . i think that is a recorded instance of sychronicity, cool shit.

  • Beck looks like David Bowie in this video and he looked like Neil young in 1994.

  • this guy contiuously amazes me. he has such great taste in music, and can righteously cover anything.

i would have never guessed beck did this version.killer stuff

  • @edslides1 and still not nearly as good as the original

  • jeff tweeeedddyyyyyy!

  • does anyone know the chords or tab of this song?

  • @emilfonseca just listen. don't think too hard. let it come from your soul. math or soul, you choose.

  • Magnificent. These guys are so under-rated.

I feel sorta bad because I'm a big Beck fan but never actually Paid for an album, yet I have all of his so far :P I think I'll buy a T-shirt of their website, that oughta make things even.

  • @Venplex fun fact: beck is just one guy, there's no band.

  • @fruitbatrepublic bullshit. He's a collective, but a different collective every so often. He's not mr. brain, he's a part of the whole and is the dependant connection to the mainstream due to the father connection who opened all his doors.

  • @oatstao I can understand that now! I feel like I was a different person when I made that comment originally.

  • I'm surprised how true they stayed to skip spence.

  • nothing but the wholeness of 'everything and nothing' can represent god

  • i'm from windsor, ontario, which was Skip Spence's hometown. just to have Beck covering such an underappreciated gem of a record such as this one is pretty fantastic, anyway he chooses to cover it. be it this way or any other way. hell, if they were all playing kazoos it would still be pretty cool that they were at least acknowledging it.

  • every music has been influenced by the music that was before, and before that there was only one word and that word was god, therefore every song is a song of god. this song is a tribute, and is as good as it gets.

  • @stripedcat Well by that logic, every word in the dictionary means god.

    Care to rethink you're statement?

  • @Nuntype lol. i'm saying the delta derives from the lake. by your logic the delta is the lake, which it is not. you cannot change the delta because it was laid out in the plans of the lake. now i'm talking about god of course, a real delta you can change. a part of the delta represents one of god's plans, which is in all in it's place - as good as it gets, but it does not represent god, but god represents it. there is a difference between the meaning of 'of' and 'is'. and 3+2 is not 2+3. think.

  • @stripedcat I didn't ever make a statement of my own, so technically I have no logic :P

I'm not sure where the lake and delta that you're talking about come from.

And after re reading you're comment several times i'm not 100% sure what you mean. The only bit I understand/agree with is 3+2 =/ 2+3.

It's probably more my fault than yours, i.e i'm really tired just now and not really focusing. But if you could maybe re word you're reply i'd be pretty grateful.

  • @Nuntype well, your statement was, that with my logic every word is god. my logic is that every word is 'from' god. that doesn't mean every word 'is' god. the lake is god's word, the river-delta is how the word of god has transformed. as someone lives by the "original" "skip spence" stream, from the "beck's cover" stream has derived, one might not apperciate the last. but the "skip" is derived from another stream. all is from the lake which is the original. god's word represents each of them.

  • @Nuntype well, i write in a different language than most people anyway, tho the words are commonly used, writing directly without social filters. and i have this phobia of character limits:p easy said; if god represent any word as itself, doesn't mean that any word by itself represents god. if you're in anyway interested in god, i suggest reading meister eckhart, and nondualism. if there is a *supreme* god, he is definitly nondual, meaning everything, anything and nothing:)

  • hell yes

  • No I hate those covers, you're really batting a thousand here juggband haha

  • As you said wilcojoe13, in your opinion it sounds good. You probably prefer those Beatles covers in the Target ads too. Me, I'm too attached to the originals.

  • juggband I assure you that no one is enlightened or inspired by your conventional mindset..You should consider stepping out of your militaristic comfort zone(once in a while) that 's how you grow...There's a great,,big,wide-world out there,OPEN UP and breathe some fresh air man or you will shrivel up and die....Just a hunch, but, judging by YOUR comments John Cage and Harry Partch are also foreign and malicious agents to you? No worries mate you're entitled to your chosen malaise.

  • My opinion is you're too attached to the original and just taking a piss, cause this doesnt sound terrible at all

  • wilcojoe13, however rude my comments came across I am a fan of beck, feist, etc. and familiar with the record club idea. the velvet underground covers were interesting, the leonard cohen less so, but the skip covers don't do the originals justice, bleak simplicity replaced by limp electronica. not trying to offend anyone, but we're all entitled to an opinion.

  • "Record Club is an informal meeting of various musicians to record an album in a day. The album chosen to be reinterpreted is used as a framework. Nothing is rehearsed or arranged ahead of time. A track is put up here once a week. The songs are rough renditions, often first takes that document what happened over the course of a day as opposed to a polished rendering. ....

  • There is no intention to 'add to' the original work or attempt to recreate the power of the original recording. Only to play music and document what happens."

  • Thanks for putting some "truth and sanity" out there, I like to hope it gives a little cushion of care for those(the many) constantly walking into walls

  • Juggband, you should check some facts before making those very rude comments: (read my next post)......

  • all this 'star power' in one room, and it sounds terrible, can't even remotely come close to one guy playing every instrument on three tracks with a head full of thorazine. makes one miss skippy all the more, and makes oar all the more impressive of an achievement.

  • no vocals from feist? thats a little disappointing good song how ever

  • Nostalgic and new - beautiful! Makes me think /feel Joni with CSNY.

  • Can't stop listening, what a great tune for the holidays

  • marvellous.

  • is skip's version on here anywhere cuz i've been tryin to find it

  • Here you go, brosef.

    mLgczcgaTRg

  • @Joebob034 you can find the vinyl on ebay for $200

  • Beck+Wilco+Feist=We all win

  • My fave Skip song... i love synchronicity... I started to hum the song, then went intuitively to Beck's site and oh... there it is!

    Love you all

  • This song is so beautiful. Never got into Skip Spence, but I can see now I'm gonna have to. This song brings in the hope that christmas offers. Love you Beck and friends!

  • Agh! The weeks just drag now that there is Record Club but at least I know the next 11 Thursdays will kick ass. I hope Wilco was there when they did Grey/Afro

  • Beck never ceases to amaze & enthrall with his immense & respect for MUSIC.
