  • I just think its crazy that after all the damage the first atomic bomb did the Japanese STILL WOULDNT SURRENDER! Jesus how little they mustve cared about the innocent people dying for the country that never should have. it took two bombs -_- This fact proves that government is corrupt, not only in america, but everywhere else too.

  • 8:38 HE CRIES MILK! THEY'RE SAVED!!!!

  • this is all hitler's fault guys

  • If I click the "like" button, does that make me a bad person? Or does it mean I like the video, not what happened?

  • If anything I blame Germany for starting the war that gave japan the opportunity to do what they did and that forced the USA to nuke Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

  • @Diremagic Japan started the war in 1937 by invading China, before Germany invaded Poland. Japan sought to create an empire encompassing much of the Pacific Ocean. One of the reasons they attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor was to neutralize the American navy in the Pacific. Don't blame Germany for Imperialist Japan's aggression.

  • It seems like the people are sad that they "lost the war", instead of being somewhat relieved that the war is over. I really don't get it.

  • @TheDarkEyedTrickster I find it hard to understand too, but I get the feeling that they think all the death and destruction was for nothing.

  • @Swimmisan Yes, but really...even if they did win wouldn't it have still been for nothing? I suppose in their state of depression in Japan it was the only thing they had left to "look forward" to and it seemed all the more despairing to hear this news. Some people may have been relieved but for the most part, but I can see the populace reacting like how they were here. War should not be something to win or lose, it should be something to be prevented.

  • @TheDarkEyedTrickster @TheDarkEyedTrickster People were told that the Americans were terrible monsters and would kill them, which was one reason that they were so upset they lost the war. Here's a wikipedia article on it: wikipedia[dot]org/wiki/Japanese_propaganda_during_World_War_II#Allied_atrocities

  • Japan should bomb america

  • Oh god, please don't let that old man at the end of the video be some kind of creeper or pedophile. Things don't need to get any worse than they are...

  • never mind. I just finsihed watching the whole thing. Ryuta is way cuter! They all remind me of peanut characters!

  • Gen is so cute!

  • I actually saw this movie in my high school history class... it is so terrible but I think everyone should see it to understand our history ... this should never ever happen again. It was wrong then and it is wrong now. I wish I could say war can never happen but as long as there is greed there will be war. A sad sad fact.

  • they surrendered on the day of my birthday...

Gen's mother is right, they should have surrendered way before the bombs were dropped, or at least before the second one.

  • i read once that hirohito announced the surrender in such roundabout terms that many people weren't even sure what he was talking about.

  • Woah...seriously guys.

It's just horrible how many here think war and what happened thanks to these atomic bombs can be in anyway justified. Sorry to disappoint you: It can't.

Nothing justifies killing other human beings. It's murder. No matter for what oh so highly important reason. It is and will always be murder.

And to those who are left afterwards it's hell. As shown in this movie.

  • this is one of the greatest disaster movies

  • Wouldn't that rice be contaminated also from radition? Oh well, he found food that's good enough for me!

  • Human Nature: Kill for Territory

That's Why we are still like animals.

  • U know what??

Fuck war.... It seems so fuckin stupid -.-*

Srsly, are there NO other ways of conflict than to kill?? There HAS to be

  • ただ単にこわい、かわいそう、かなしい

    これで十分でしょ。だからもう戦争、核はだめ

  • I've been to ground zero in Nagasaki. It was the most horrific thing I've ever seen bodies melted into the concrete. The blast was so powerful even the shadows of people were imprinted by the blast. The story is about the atrocities of war and the victims it claims. To remind future generations to find more peaceful outcomes to conflict. Not once does it point a finger at right or wrong. Let us remember that.

  • So sad. But the US was not given any other option, except millions more dead.

  • they were testing the bomb...don´t try to excuse the us

  • @nemesis1482 and don't you try to excuse the Japanese. They already tested the bomb in New Mexico before they dropped it on Hiroshima. Heard of the Battle of Okinawa? The Battle for Japan would have been 1,000 times worse without the bomb. I'm glad my country did what it did, because in the long run, more lives were spared.

  • Yes horray you found rice!

But ur father sister and brother just were burned alive in front of you yesterday....

    Jeez kid

  • these scenes look horrible...war must end

  • WTF the movie is different to the book.. Gen met ruyuta when Ruyuta was beaten up by Villgers on the field...

  • sorry mistake

7/25 US President Know Completing Bomb

7/26 the Potsdam Declaration was made

    8/6 8/9 Bomb attacked Japan.

    9/2 Japan surrenderd.

United States Stretched to accept the Potsdam Declaration Because of Testing Bomb.

  • 1:44 looks like Ninoy Aquino was shot...lmao

  • アメリカを憎まず特権階級を憎む

  • 10円→1000円とかそんぐらいの価値だと思うw

    戦争時代はお金の価値が高いのでねw

  • ええー!ありえない!

  • It's kinda funny just how they could do this.

Japan didn't actually shoot down aircrafts that were alone, thinking that they were scouts.

Which meant that all the U.S had to do was load up a single plane and calmly fly it into to the cities core.

  • 6:49 damn!

  • the animation is so rough and childlike, yet that makes it all the more powerful, heart breaking, and beautiful.

  • why must there be hate and wars?

  • War = nothing but sadness

Why we need to hurt each other.

We are the same family on earth as human being.

We must more focuse on how to save our home called earth

    not fight each other.

    War is nothing but stupid!!

We must learn from experience. no more war!!

  • some peoople are greedy and stupid

  • Ok, I am tired of people always yelling at Americans for this. I will admit...YES THE BOMBS WERE TERRIBLE AND THEY WERE EVIL! But they were the LESSER of two evils. Historians (Both American AND JAPANESE) say that if the bombs had not been dropped then the USA would be forced to do a manned invasion (Like in Europe). The war would have gone for years, and it is estimated that the Japanese death toll from an invasion would be MUCH MUCH MORE than the death toll from Hiroshima.

  • why didn't the US use the bomb on Germany?

  • Germany surrendered months before America bombed Japan. I don't believe the bomb was completed then, though I'm sure they would have bombed Germany as well if the war had continued.

  • Because Hitler shot himself and Germany surrendered before The Bomb was complete.

  • had Germany not surrendered would the US have contemplated using the atomic bomb?

  • I cant remember which one but one of them was meant for berlin

  • Well, I think that Big Boy (nagasaki) was originally intended for either Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich. And Little Boy was going to Hiroshima, Tokyo, Kyoto or Nagasaki.

  • because we knew we would have them by there balls but the japs. they would not surrender so we had to.

  • Both A-bombs where originally build for Germany. But Germany already surrendered before they where completed - so i guess they didn't want their miraculous new super weapon go unused. And besides they wanted to know what the effects of the bomb where if dropped on a real city with real people.

That's why they didn't firebomb Hiroshima - they wanted to see how much damage could be done.

  • Thank you. I'm glad someone finally said it.

  • An old comment but still...

The japanese were stubborn and would not be likley to surrender unless they were scared into doing so.

Fire bombings wouldn't do the trick (they did firebomb) and they lost a lot of men without the japanese showing signs of yielding.

To save american lifes and to quickly end the war they decided to use the nukes, which at blast killed as many as the firebombings in germany did (though unkown how many died later on).

  • but then again, the people had absolutely nothing to do with it. The government did not surrender until the second bomb was dropped in nagasaki

  • is the american life more valueble than others people's life? civilians what ever the nationality is should not be involved in the action of killing, a respected army should fight an enemy's army only, japan attacked pearl harbor for the milatary ships there not the civilians. yes japanese did horrible things to chinese, they are not angels for sure, but wrong is not to be corrected with another worng. peace

  • After accepting the Potsdam Declaration(Surrender)

United States attacked Nuclear Weapon to pretend they did not know.

The President Harry S. Truman knew the truth that Nuclear Weapon was completed.

So they tested weapon to Japan(surrenderd and too weak) .

  • The Potsdam Declaration 7/26

    Nuclea Weapon bobed 8/6(Hiroshima), 8/9(Nagasaki).

United States wanted to test Nuclear Weapon.

    Who is barbaric and uncivilized?

60 years ago "Weapons of mass destruction" was found in united States not Middle East. Just Laughing.

  • as you said YES THE BOMBS WERE TERRIBLE AND THEY WERE EVIL. but that should be it, if you put agendas and think like this, evil won't stop, you may be right and you maybe wrong, but it's not right to justify evil. even if it makes you feel better. thanks.

  • so true = )

  • @nadalele

so is it better just to stand by

and let a greater evil happen instead?

  • @nadalele that person was't justifying it, just explaining why it happened.

  • @nadalele THE AMERICANS HAD NO OTHER CHOICE, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT US TO DO? MOST OF THE JAPANESE PEOPLE AT THAT TIME STILL SAW HIROHITO AS A "GOD" AND WAS WILLING FIGHT TO THE DEATH LIKE KAMIKAZES.

  • @nadalele ...It's not propoganda. I am stating a statistical fact. If you look at every single battle that took place against the Japanese, applied the civilian/japanese percentage of the casualties of these battles, and applied them to a hypothethical invasion of the Home Islands (plus add in the fact that the Japanese culture favored suicide to occupation), then one would see that a manned invasion would lead to more casualties than Hiroshima and Nagasaki..

  • @nadalele This anime is telling how horrible that war was and how Nuclear bomb is. Have you learn basic human ethic valves, so in your point is that all Japanese are evil and American well I say the world is all the same you have good and evil among any person. If you choose to be good then your good if you choose to be evil or bad is what you are, the Taisho Democracy was end and end up being rule by happy gun lovin self madman Facist.

  • @nadalele Good is not always achieved by good. That is reality.

  • @FisHiNtHeReEF At last, someone with more common sense than a pig. This was a horrific situation and we can all pray nothing like it EVER happens again...but it was done to prevent a far worse situation. And blaming 'those filthy Americans' for it- now, years in the future, when it wasn't even us but our GOVERNMENT- just pisses everyone off.

  • @nadalele Are you saying one should not consider the alternatives? That America should not have thought about the many more people that would've died in a manned invasion, and instead refrained from the atomic bombings simply because they too were evil acts? That does not sound wise. For better or worse we are sometimes faced with evil decisions. If one must choose between thousands dieing and tens of thousands dieing, allowing the latter over the former would be in itself evil.

  • @historybuff5341 And yes, even if the bomb was terrible, people seem to forget all the atrocities that the japanese were doing in mainland Asia during the war, and what they did to Korea before.

  • @historybuff5341 that's only one way to view this event...

Some cold war historians claim that the bomb was used to threaten the USSR, also Japan and US was having peace negotiation so some have a doubt about the "war would have gone for years".

but we can never come up with unified interpretation for these kind of events, and I still think your interpretation does make sense too.

  • @historybuff5341 The after results of the bombs were propably much worse than you can imagine. Of course the people in US can't be blamed, but the leaders at that time didn't think so much about how EVIL the bombs were and how EVIL they would make USA look. It was a murder of people, civilizians, innocent who had nothing to do with the war. Just as much a murder of people as the holocaust. Can you justify it?

  • @rkrokberg But the bombs saved lives because the potential casualties of a maned invasion would have been worse.

  • @historybuff5341 There was a simple solution. Bombing the military targets to dust. Instead of that, American government ordered to destroy tens of thousands of civilians. It was a war crime. There's not debate about that. A pure war crime.

They could've bombed their fleet, their military factories. But not two cities full of civilians.

This was not a lesser of two evils. This was equal or worse, and can not be justified by a moral person, only a psychopath.

  • Why diddnt japan surrender? did they seriously think the americans were bluffing?

  • Combination: arrogant leaders, the incorrect belief that the Americans were only in the early stages of development, and that even if they did have a bomb, that they couldn't carry something so unstable over the entire pacific ocean. Atomic warfare is a commonplace idea now; it was only beginning to emerge then.

  • And that's even *after* the bomb dropped. There was actually a meeting over it and those excuses were used to say that it couldn't be an atomic bomb. The idea then would have been insane. The accounts they heard also didn't make sense or sound alarming (that it was a flash of light, a huge roar, etc.). It was something very difficult to comprehend.

  • then preaches to others like Iran about nuclear weapons

  • i love how america has this grand myth that flash frying hundreds of thousands was somehow justified

oh we had no choice but to barbeque you civilians sorry

    you forced our hand

  • Question for an American.

How do you think about an atom bomb of Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

    Pearl Harbor?

    dainipponteikoku is right.

  • I think it was just the baddest thing we could have done yet that was one of the option that we had to make to save american and jap. lives if we had not more people would have died.

  • War = nothing but sadness

Why we need to hurt each other.

  • Wise words, my friend, wise words...

  • Whatever.

  • I'm sure it will happen. But how can you say we don't have to worry? Didn't Jesus cry when Lasarus died. He did feel sorrow. And I fell sorrow for these people.

Everyone should see this, maybe we won't have so many wars then...

  • 1000 years? i scoff at that it would be for eternity. You know nothing of the catholic faith.

  • its good he found the rice. the officials were idiots not to surrender!
