my salute to general rommel. he was my role model, great soldier, professional, fair, genius, tactician, and most of all a "kind General." He was by par the great than eisenhower, montgomery, paton, mcarthur.

It is of course a complete nonsense to say that Rommel knew nothing of the extermination of people at death camps. As part of military command he would have been regularly informed of resoure deployment and security issues in Germany and occupied territories. As a close confidante of Goebels he would have been privvy to highly classified intelligence on propaganda, much of it concerned with keeping secret mass murder, death camps and fial solution activities.

Hello to all you Nazi-apologists and Rommel worshipers that comment here, trying to glorify or simply excuse an awful person;Rommel.
I am here to put the record straight.
Rommel was a military failure, a weak and vain general and above all a puppet fieldmarshal who grovelled to Hitler in good times and sought to extricate himself when the it got bad. He then commited suicide dishonouring his rank and position. A shameful man.
Look, I'll bite m toungue out of respect for the readers, but you'll here something from an expert historian from U of T. Rommel, like many germans, believed in Hitler's lies. He knew nothing about nazi attrocities (hitler said he'd remove the jews, he never said how) his military skills were great but hitler never gave hjim the materials to break to cairo. At this time rommel got to know the real hitler and nazism and thus joined the resistance, he was forced to commit suicide after july 20 44
Wasn't he the only German general in WW2 to have been complimented by Winston Churchil? That seemed very unusual for the time, especially right during the dark days of the way.
'desert fox' (Erwin Rommel) was one of the biggest generals of all time.He is a real legend for germans and those who have some interest for war history. He defeated british army several times in north africa despite he had not enough ammunation and logistic support. He was so intelligent and brave general.RESPECT.
Regardless of your views on the Germans, Rommel was an entirely different man. Considered to be the last Knight in warfare. Would cut rations of his troops to feed and care for his prisoners. He is one of the few commanders (on either side) to never be under suspicion of war crimes, besides the plot AGAINST hitler. If more men in power were like rommel, maybe things would be a bit better.
Yes, endeed. He was a real gentleman, in the middle of a cruel and inhuman war. Hitler order him to kill himself, because he knew that Rommel was the only man that could stop him. Fortunately for Hitler, Rommel was a very honorful man who was not capable to stain his honor because of a treason. RIP, SIR.
uuhhh that is not true. Not tht I don't admire rommel. I totally agree with "Notapeopleperson"'s comment. thing is rommel wasn't that much of a threat to hitler, although he was going to take place on the coup following hitler's dead (had stauffenberg succeeded) and he did choose suicide because if not he would have been tried, found guilty of high treason (the court had already made a verdict under hitler's orders giving rommel no chance to make any use of the truth) and his family wouldbedead
he also lived under the same conditions as his soldiers regarding places to sleep, food, water, baths and other stuff. He never gave himself any luxury beyond that of his soldiers. It is a real trgedy what happened to him
