  • I get the impression that with all the clips that count to 40, numbers up to 40 may have been added to the curriculum later in the run. When I was a little kid, all the counting stuff only went up to 10 or 20.

I learned Spanish numbers up to 20 from Sesame Street and remember amazing my grandparents and their friends by counting in Spanish when I was at their house at 3 years old.

I then learned Spanish numbers through the 70s from a bilingual caller in a bingo game a few years later.

  • The Sadd Family:

    Mr. Sadd: Jerry Nelson

    Mrs. Sadd: David Rudman

    Sally: Camille Bonora

    Sandy: Richard Hunt

  • 40, 39, 38, 37, 36, 35, 34, 33, 32, 31, 30, 29...

    *starts getting sadder and sadder*

  • Am I hearing Fran Brill?

  • And David Rudman towards the end?

  • Happy 40th Anniversary, Sesame Street!

  • WTH did i just watch?

  • ...Random bald guy at the end. Lol.

  • I'M SO HAPPY!

  • The zen of counting, heheh.. agreed on the bizarness.. but the bunch that made muppets great were an odd bunch, so it makes sense.. ;) I grew up on this wacky weirdness.. it's better than drugs, lol.

Love Jim Hensons work.. still wish that he would still be around. Who would ever have thought puppets would take over the world.. and make it a better place :) Just looking at this vid proves to me that dreams .. original dreams (with a heart of gold in the middle..) can rise above reason and rut.

  • I've been watching/seeing Sesame Street for 31 years..and I have 8 and a half years left? WTF sesame?

  • omigosh this is a bizarre skit!

  • Happiness begins at 40? That is just silly If fappiness begins at 40, What about the rest of your days 1-39 What is bad about them?

  • nobody said anything about age 40 lol :P

  • yeah

  • I'm guessing Jerry Nelson was Mr. Sad?

  • Sure was. And you can clearly hear Richard Hunt whining as Sandy.

  • Thanks! I've been looking for that.

  • I remember this one.Thank you, thank you, a million times thank you for posting this.

  • or thank you 40 times! hahahaha...*sigh*

  • Is this the only SS game show where confetti and balloons drop for a win?

  • NICE BALLON DROP!

  • Nice Balloon Drop

  • WHEE! Another new Guy Smiley episode!

  • meaning that you heard their voices? or meaning that you heard it from another user?

  • I heard it from their voices.

  • thanks for clearing that up.

  • Imagine if Guy Smiley did a promo for this?

    Something like:

Guy Smiley: Are you depressed, mad, furious or nevertheless unhappy?

Well, come on down and join us for our newest game show "Happiness Begins At 40" where we treat your unhappy emotions.

Can you imagine a promo like that?

  • I quess when you're mad, you count to ten and you'll be calm, but when when you're sad, you just count to 40.

  • When they did that Cyranose de Bergerac episode in Season 24, he tried countimg to 30 to control his anger. He was calm when he was finished, but he got mad again.

  • Who peformed the Sad Family.

  • I can't tell but I know I heard Jerry Nelson and Richard Hunt.

  • I hear Camille Bonora's voice when the crowd is counting.
