he has a great memory , but anyone caourn get as good as him , just train ,train and train your brain... but it can take years to get as close as him ,, congratulations ANdi for the amazing memory
yeah but kim peek isnt 'normal' this guy is and has his own technique, yeah he wont be able to remember as much as kim peek but theyre different from each other
in my pov its not necessary to follow this method..there are many memorizing methods..pick one that suits ur memory...some people memorize melodies like me...BUT get the main idea behind memorizing which is linking and associating things together ;D
Does a person form more neural connections from using this technique (supposibly involving more different areas of the brain) than they would if there were to just memorise a sequence of card pictures?
If memory savants such as Kim Peek use more of their brains for memory storage, is what this memory champ doing sort of similar?

I have a fairly simple method of memorizing. I look over it... and I'm done. My brain does the connecting and patterns, analyzing, logic, interpreting, blah blah blah somewhere in between there. It just unfolds like a pop up book. I don't see what is so hard about it.
hun, it's great that you cud do that, but u can't apply your own abilities and experience to the whole of humanity. It'd be the same for a physics genius to say, well, yeah, physics is ridiculously easy, I don't get it why people don't understand it.
i know it's unbelievable, but I've tried it myself. it has taken me about an hour and a half to memorize 5 decks of playing cards. I still remember the order. That's a total of 260 cards.
by far, it gives u fame in school. Last week, i told my friends to shuffle a deck of 52 cards and they did, and I memorized them all about 14 minutes. They still think that i'm a genius lol.
prince, you have to equip each card with an action, person or object.
Hi everyone, I am a blackjack card counter, if you can do the speed cards in 2 minutes, let me bring you to the casinos , and win the money with your skill.
Very interesting. Does anyone know this tecnique in detail? Would he be able to tell the positions of a specific card just as rapidly, or would he have to "shuffle" through the memory? For instance tell the positions of all the aces of diamonds.
He probably could but its going to take a long time.. notice that the 520 cards are split up into seperate decks. In reference to the book by Tony buzan (the founder of world memory championships), "The average brain cannot hold more than seven major items of information in its short-term memory" thus, this explains the need for the seperation of decks for easier recall of information. To locate the aces of diamonds is time consuming since he has to start from the beginning of every such decks.
Subsequently, he associates these numbers from each deck with a picture and then to link them up to what i call as a story or the route method. Given the fact that the brain is highly efficient at recollecting pictures rather than words or numbers in accordance to Haber's experiment, it is without doubt that the card could be easily recalled and described.
"Andi Bell has 3 associations per card, a person, a verb, and an object. When he's memorising a pack of cards, each location will 3 cards that represent 3 things in the story.
So if he see's (four of clubs) as the first card, he translates that to the corresponding person of 4 of clubs. Say 6 of diamonds comes next, he translates that to the verb associated with that card. Finally, the last card, whatever it be, he translates it to the object."
Do some research on the method of loci. I originally found this method from a book by Dominic O'Brien who gives an excellent description of how it's done. It does take practice but any average person who may even have a poor memory can master this technique.
Interesting thing is, I learned about this technique (which is called the technique of Loci) in two different classes this semester. But I'm not good at using it.
@GodoftheGeeks not necessarily, there is something special that happens with a well training mind like this guys. These memory champions are able to acces a special state when the brain is taxed at memorizing allot of information, it releases special chemicals and neurotransmitters that speed up brain function to the point that focus and concentration and thinking speed is literally beyond normal human levels.
@GodoftheGeeks also allot of those guys have a level of focus and concentration that is really amazing compared to the average person.
In fact memory training is similar to meditation in its effects on the brain, in what meditation does in years, memory training can do in months. So you can get the focus/concentration/peace of mind just by training your memory and get to a level that those monks that meditate in the mountains get too, or even higher!
Well it cant realy be much developt its just a ability some type of skill, its not something you yourself cant learn to do! Its probably harder to learn so was hard to ride a bike for the first time, but its obviosly worth it!
wikipiedia works fine to, herigone's system works to. The replacement of a well known route is replaced here by an array of already memorized objects mapping to certain numbers.
To our point of view... no... there is no connection, but Andi taught himself to relate the cards to those specific items. Derren Brown's technique is similar.
I hate that guy with the moustache on those science programs as he is REALLY annoying by the fact that he ALWAYS look so smug by thinking that hes smarter than everyone else. Yes, we DO know what photosynthesis is, it's not the biggest secret in the world and hibernation. Pompous tool.
I'm using this kind of technique now for my exams, it makes revising so much easier. Especially for a subject like Psychology where you are basically just memorising a set of facts. What they said on the video about him using the Loci method can't be right, or he would have to go through the journey everytime to recall a card, surely he must be using some kind of peg system.

I know this technique.. is not very hard
I can remember a deck of cards after 3days I learn this technique
First each number is linked to a picture.. i know 100.. u just need to memorize this but for master like him he should have 1000 or more
then put them into places. let say number 1 is a ball. then u place the ball at the door in ur room in ur mind. and so on.....
then ur desk, bookshelf etc..

3 days for a deck... he did 5 decks in 20 mins. 3days for a deck is nothing. I could do 52 cars in like a hour tops.
dmanschaumbizzie 3 years ago
I use 3 days to learn the technique, not to memories the deck. I use about half an hour or less to remember the deck
kind18cch 3 years ago
He said he could _remember_ the order even after 3 days. He didn't learn the order in 3 days.
And by the way, it was 10 decks in 20 mins, not 5. Are you sure your reading and listening abilities are as good as your memory?
