@MrSetox33 The term practice makes perfect is just proven true. He's played enough that average gamers likely dont know the nuances of the game as well, not to mention he likely he many strategies from trial and error from his early experiences just like every other competent player.

@hankock1015 If you want to charge without your pila, hit "ALT," then right click on the enemy you want to charge. If you want to stop your men from using their pila when the enemies get close enough to them, disable the "Fire at will" button, which looks like a bow in the troop control panel. It always defaults to "Fire at will," so if any enemy gets close enough to them they'll release a volley of deadly spears.

Furthermore, I have OVER 20+ LOSSES posted on my channel. That's more losses posted than every YouTube Total War commentator combined.

Gauls were always good one-on-one with Roman legionaries but not as skilled as fighting as a unit. The Gallic infantry is no match with Legions head on.

Theoretically saving your best units for last while your weaker troops tire out the opponent may seem like a good idea, but in Total War series that doesn't seem to be the case. When you have advantage of numbers, you should always look to flank your opponent and surround them and undermining their morale. This is especially the case with RTW.

When you were out of the camp, he should've charged with chosen swordsmen and flanked with fanatics. Too bad he had no effective anti-cavalry.

if i were you i would do the same with those horses at the start to destroy them from behind but would put some really good defending troops in the gates do guard it. so their numbers wond be an advantage and let the archers shoot them over walls... oh well... just my opinion

As I said, the archers would've hit my own troops from behind since I couldn't maneuver them to the flank.

Also, if I just defended the bottleneck, my opponent wouldn't have been compelled to attack.

To beat humans, you have to think outside the box.

Furthermore, if you'll notice, I used MAJOR handicaps for both battles. That's WHY I did it.

You shouldn't underestimate the handicaps I gave myself. I'm a person who uses handicaps 90% of the time in my battles (for Rome Total War).

problem with this game is the factions aren't equally strong. Rome is the best in the game and owns everyone else unless you know what your doing and have good tactics

In my other battle, I gave my opponent 10,000 extra denarii.

Sure enough, Gaul sucks.  But I've beaten Romans as Gaul (on equal money)

you could have used your archers to shoot the chosen swordsmen in the climax of the battle, but it seems they were embroiled in the fight as well or very depleted and had routed to the fort centre. Besides, you did a great job with your cav so it wasn't a very big loss not to do that

There is two reasons: 1. The archers were already shooting the opponent's archers.

2. Friendly fire.

@debuxman Debuxman, actually no, if I let my archers fire, there was a strong chance they would hit my own soldiers since I was fighting from a fort (meaning I couldn't get flank shots on the enemy).

So what you say is a mistake was actually precision-military tactics. I could either let them rout my OWN troops or let them do something useful and fight.

So no, that wasn't a mistake at all. But if I let them kill my own guys, that would've been a HUGE mistake.
