The Doctor and River Song are traveling in opposite directions on the timeline. She loved him when he was older, but he will never be able to love her. He never knew they were in love because she is moving toward him being younger and he is moving towards his being older. So maybe one day they could be in love for a day when their timelines coinside, but it would only be for one day. That is the saddest thought ever.

Brilliant - I watched the episode again . first i didnt like season 4 that much - but when i heard River Song was in the future series i knew i had to find out what she said to him in episode 9 and I cant wait till the new doctor meets her in Series 5!
