  • Notice the car deck was full, unusual usually only a few cars, use it or lose it. Problem was due to restricted hourly service, people don't want to wait an hour between ferries, hence Western cleaned up. The end of an era indeed, I can remember the little "Maids" in the 60's, coming in and out of Dunoon pier, cars were turned on a turntable, into position.

  • Wonderful little film which I hope can be on here for a long, long time. I came back specially to Dunoon for this event of the last sailing. When the Saturn backed out and turned to face the pier letting rip with her horn I could not believe there were grown men in tears, shows how much this service meant to people and the memories it must have evoked of the past nearly sixty years.

  • The people who made this decision totally lack sentimentality and it indeed a crying shame , the public wouldn't turn up if they thenselves didn't care. The SNP must be ashamed of themselves to give a pure momopoly to the private concern , Western Ferries. OK , the Saturn is quite elderly now but the Mirrlees Blackstone engines can live forever. Nothing , absolutely nothing is coming to the west , indeed , things are being taken away , like this wonderful Calmac service. A disgrace.

  • End of an era 1954-2011, Saturn was packed! My video's will be on later.
