I'm a student of Aboriginal Politics at Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia. We can learn a lot from Aboriginal culture and politics as white people. Alcoholism, poverty, and underfunding by govts go hand in hand. I remember an Aboriginal Elder talking about getting their people "off the grog" as a priority; but it seems the way of life is a problem also.

I'm not sure about Darwin but most Aborigines are probably not much different than the white and Asian Australians other than the cultural differences and differences in appearance. Alcoholism, poverty, and underfunding by govts go hand in hand. I remember an Aboriginal Elder talking about getting their people "off the grog" as a priority; but it seems the way of life is a problem also.

I'm not sure about Darwin but most Aborigines are probably not much different than the white and Asian Australians other than the cultural differences and differences in appearance. The same thing they did all over the world, that's how such a tiny country controlled such a huge empire. Horrible?..yes, but that's what they did. Terrible!! we give them so much as Taxpayers, Dole Money, Schooling, they have it all, yet they throw it all away! seems to be nothing we can do for them thats not a bleak waste! I have been to these communities, It feels like a post-apocolyptic settlement, like the videogame Fallout! Trash Everywhere, Bored Kids, Passed out Elderly, I really feel there is no hope in these people, but ban selling them Alcohol, and make it mandatory to put them through Education!!

I live in an aboriginal community and watching this really annoys me, in the fact that the media plays the sob story that aboriginies have it so hard. I see thehard work that non locals put in every day and literally watch it get smashed in your face. They is so much violence, abuse and distruction. I came here wanting to help the locals but i'm leaving as an person who will never trust a full blood aboriginal person. talking to other people who have done the same, my story is not unique.
