Linda Rondstadt is most like me in that our tastes in music varies so widely. So she has places in all areas of my collection that are vocal. Thanks so much for posting this and thank you Linda for all the joy you've brought me for decades.
Put this immediately in a time capsule!! Linda's even ATTEMPTING this song, which few singers attempt, even back then...she put tears in my eyes and chills up my spine...if there was one song that proves that she could sing anything, and brilliantly, this haunting Monk tune should be the final vote. Kudos to Linda!!
Nelson Riddle dies too young, his death was a great loss to the music industry. Without him Sinatra,Ella Fitzgerald,Nat king cole wouldn't have had half the success they did. RIP Nelson.
Critics came down on Ronstadt for this albums, but this jazzy direction kept her range in check by not allowing her to scream out notes in cackles. When she sings softly in her low range, it was much more caressing and smoother, sexy.
Probably the most accomplished album of the 20th century. Maybe an accidental combination only experienced every thousand years or so..
I doubt if Amy Winehouse will ever meet ....
A writer of lyrics..
Even a writer of any language, her husband is already in prison for being an upper-class cunt, a four-letter word well bveyond either parties educational acheivements..
Upper-Class Fuckwits should be shot - on entering Eton, or Cambrige, or Oxford ....
Unendurable beauty... Ronstadt's near-perfect voice is, in fact, perfect here... who wrote the lyrics? I never knew this tune had lyrics, and they, too, are perfect... and the 'Bone player? Also perfect, and, at the end, performing with Rostadt in a... perfect... duet... Who?
Not my favorite version of this song: that belongs to Julie London. Hers is even darker, sadder, sweeter, more haunted. But then she was a very worldly woman, and Linda's more of an eternal girl. This version, though, is still brilliant. Linda's lovely voice is peerless, Riddle's arrangement exquisite. What a treasure he was....
Nelson Riddle's ear & Linda Ronstadt's voice - a perfect combination. He's her roots, she's his wings. I wish they could have gone on forever. Well, maybe, after a pause, they will.
Today's pop divas make nice photos and brief little glimmers on screens, but can't hold a candle to class songstresses like Ronstadt.
Perfect! Her voice is a bell

@tuxguys Round Midnight words by Bernie Hanighen. Original song copyright 1944, renewed 1971 but don't know when lyrics added.
