  • How did we drink water back when we had none of this technology? Not even filters.

  • @maneatingtoilets Boiled it .

  • does any one know where i can get one of those green canvas bag?

  • that last makes the water taste like chlorine huh? :/

  • Throwing dead carcases (Human and animal) into the enemies' drinking water was the first biological warfare.

  • Always filter the water first and never use plastic for sterilizing water (boiling water). Stay away from waterways that have dead animals near them or in them or other toxic debris.

  • BEAR GRYLLS IS THE FUCKING MAN.... HIS TELEVISED ACTIONS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES

  • If you make your tripod with three levels of clothe and in the first you put straw or grass in the second you put gravel and sand that you have sterilized in your cook pot and basically roasted. and in the last you put ground charcoal you'll have made a filteration system nearly as good as the expensive katadyn. You can treat the water with iodine then pour it through this system and it will remove at least most of the iodine taste.

  • What about After a nuclera fall out? what water would you drink then!?

  • @sim0b Filter the water through a bit of rock salt, the radiation should be absorbed by it as well as the salt filtering out and killing bacteria. Thank you chemistry class.

  • D is for explosive diarrhea...

  • would some rocksalt in the water and a 9v battery do the same job?

another technique i know works fine is if you filter out the large lumps first then boil the water with a teaspoon of charcoal in it, works a treat and is freeeee!

  • Steripen or boiled is the best way to go.

  • orrrr... because it was raining in the video,

you could use the tarp or poncho (i.e. large plastic garbage bag or similar) that should be in your bush pack to collect the clean water,

needing no boiling thus wasting a lot less time, filtration, such as the tripod with the tee shirt, might be needed to remove the bugs that get in the bag... you didn't mention that

  • i would just bring a bottle of fiji

  • or just live in nz, harden up and drink the F@#^n water

  • @pistolknight07yer boi nz al the way we just drink the water up here

  • My name is Bob

  • i realy like your (a-z of bushcraft) videos, is it any chance that you could e-mail them ?

  • no way man this song (when the wind blows ) is great please dont change it please

  • please dont change the song.

and where is it you do these because its beautiful there

  • Don't change the song!

  • Make a recommendation for a new song which is copyright free and we will consider it.

  • DONT change it its great and fits!

  • Where coul you get a Nato canteen with the crusader cup??

  • You probably only get a NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) canteen through the military. I'm not sure about the crusader cup.

  • military surplus may carry them, i carry a U.S. Army canteen, got it for like 4 bucks

  • 2 W's? That's no big deal, with that logic, we should rename Camels, considering we've already got Cats.

Good information none the less, might eventually have to put bushcrafting techniques to use.

  • He's got 2 W's. I think he should've put water and food as a long video, called nourishment. or "essentials"

  • very good

  • Awesome informative video. Thanks for sharing this.

  • I thought W was for Whistle...

  • well, yes, but there are more than 26 things you should know in survival. so hes overlaped some

  • jhardia really sux. i was hikeing in the montana foot hills and drank from a rite from a stream and i paid for it lol. ill never do it again :D

  • A soap bottle for instance is a filter

    :O)

  • You can use a plastic bottle as long as the flames only touch the plastic that contains/in direct contact with water. Suspended over the flame, of course.

  • thats not allways a good idea. the fire could cause the bottle to release toxic chemicals into the water and they could make u even sicker than some parisite.

  • True, SurvivorMan did it and said it was a good idea. It must be true.

  • the toxic bottle thing is a hoax. a parasite is going to make you WAY more sick than a plastic bottle ever could.

  • water filters are so easy to make- you can make a basic one from a bottled water bottle

  • I don't think you can boil water to kill viruses. Some viruses are tough little bastards you just can't boil away or use chemicals.

  • Well the left over ones wouldn't be that effective to your immune system

But don't think for a second that you're 100% correct

  • I don't.

  • I agree. Tripods can be lashed together very quickly. This method is actually very simple and better is there happens to be a group of you and a lot of water is needed. Mill bank bags can be obtained from specialist bushcraft suppliers and even on ebay.

  • is it possible to build a pump?

  • nothing is imposseble but it isn't easy

  • What? Like, Swiss Family Robinson style?

  • as long as you have something airtight and something to use as like a plastic (actually a wax might be decent for sealing

you'd also need something to use as a tube

  • who the hell is going to sit there and lash a tripod together; why not just rubberband a piece of cloth 1/2 layers thick over the bottle opening

  • bottle opening is much smaller than the surface area created by the tripod, besides, a tripod is only 3 sticks and some string, not very hard to make

  • A tripod for now is a tripod for life

  • What about Potassium Permanganate! Its really versatile, can be used for water purification, antiseptic, anti fungal and fire making.

  • plain, simple, informative & worth watching, ive been using a millbank bag since 1983.then boil the water in a mess tin ..big bubbles no troubles..plus if its cold out you can use your water bottle to warm your sleeping bag.

  • does anybody know who sing's the song in the beggining of the film and what's it called

  • Seven little sisters is the band where the wind blows is song

  • Yeah, I hate it too.

  • boes boiling really kill ALL the bakteria, viruses etc etc??

  • it's very effective but it's not a given. like it says in the vid, after the water is boiled it is smart to use iodine or chlorine tablets. It's not a bad idea to bring along a portable filter (like shown in the vid) as well.

  • Where do I get a millbank bag in the USA?

  • Where would I get a mill bank bag in the usa?

  • wow interesting

  • Bear Grilles would have just drank the water and end up with the sh##s. Good to see someone knows what their talking about.

  • LOL!

  • @survivor308 bear grilles is a government shill sponsored idiot

lesson #1. humans beings are anatomically natural herbivores

we do not require meat in order to survive and it infact poisons us

  • @lukkbox I am sure the inuits of Alaska will have a different opinion.. but I think that the statement that meat is poisonous smells to me like some militant vegan BS. I am an expert in cold weather survival and I have never seen anyone able to sustain themselves for extended periods on a vegetable diet. To keep warm in cold climate you need FAT and MEAT in said order. My preferred travel ration when travelling in cold weather is Pemmican. I share the original recipe on my website

  • @khukurimasala

"In the next ten years, one of the things you're bound to hear is that animal protein is one of the most toxic nutrients of all that can be considered."

--Dr.T.Colin Campbell, director of the Cornell-China-Oxford Project on Nutrition, Health, and the Environment.

that is not militant vegan BS

that is a highly researched fact from an incredibly well respected scientist who has studied human biology and diet more than any other

in future, shut your stupid fuckin meat pie hole

  • survival trivia checkout my channel changes weekly

  • indeed that was very cool. good to see how a stand can be made to help with filtering

  • cool
