I wonder if any of the original cast made a cameo in the recent Monster X Strikes Back parody. Too bad Peggy Neal only made 3 movies, was getting used to seeing her as Japan's most popular female gaijin of that era.
I LOVE THIS SONG! you know these have some really good talent. I have been listening to them for a year or two and I just love them. I would really like to see them in concert.
Usually, videos like this only showcase the favorite song of the guy who made the video, and have nothing to do with the movie or the subject matter itself.
They're just showcases for "someone's favorite song."
THIS song works-it has a very retro sound, and the lyrics stck to the subject matter.
It sounds almost as if it could be an opening theme song to an old 60's Japanese sci-fi movie. If A-A-B-GAMMA was a TV series, THIS would make a great theme song.
I literally just saw the new one and thought of this video. But, man o man is that new one funny! Everybody everybody needs to see it. Heck, I loved it so much I wouldn't mind if they serialed this bad boy! Or even go back to that thing Amemiya was gonna do of Gappa X Guilala or whatever.
if you look at it the right way, guilala is indestructible, he can be stopped, but not killed, and realize, the took only one pod back, imagine if the whole pod field landed on earth. then the world would be %$#&ed
Like the situation with the Gragantuas, Sanda and Gaira (War Of The Gargantuas). They were offshoots of the skin cells of Japanese Frankenstein from Frankenstein Conquers The World.
If the theory of regeneration into a whole being from one group of cells was right as they alluded to in the movie, the world would be screwed even worse!
Good movie though, I saw The X From Outer Space many times on UHF and on regular TV as a kid. Lots of fun and fun days back then!
I love the TV commmercials which feature some micrcro-sized and a normal-sized Guilala, who blows up a gas-station downtown with his plasma-bolts. Cool that a movie from 1967 I enjoyed on TV for 41-years is still retro-popular again, along with all such things kitsch, in 2009!
They did make a 2008 sequel. Set during the G8 summit in Japan. It looks pretty funny, in a grade B kind of way of course. search for "The Monster X Strikes Back"
"Blah What A Joke?!Another B Movie Gonna Try To Claim Godzilla Likeness..What Garbage!Cant they Find something Better To creayte Now A Days Whata Shame. This Looks As Bas As Gamera The brave Thumbs Down Japan For crap Like This!!
they're remaking a lot of the same movies that the ten cent rentals sing about. X from outer space, G.I.Joe the movie, clash of the titans, akira, the bad seed
thats odd, I only know what a couple of those movies are, and i haven't heard anything about reviving those. Well, the new guilala sure but... who's doing clash of the titans? It sure the fuck better not be Peter Jackson, he'll have the kraken fall head over heels for pegasus and then forget their names.
Saw this for the first time last night and it ROCKS!This is like the archetype of Japanese monster movies...it has everything, bad acting, goofy monster, jet pilots that fly so close to a relatively small creature that it can bat them out of the sky..who trained those pilots, anyway? At least the people in Tokyo of that generation were used to evacuating their city while it was being menaced by a guy in a rubber suit! This movie is perfect!!
Good post...I *did* see it as a kid. Now, seeing it thirty yrs later, am cursing my former self for thinking he was just as menacing as God-friggin-zilla.

I'm hoping you could put up the entire sequence with the jets attacking Guilala and returning it to its egg form. Goopy mess! XD

this power pop song fits the 60's Japanese pop culture of "X" very well; if it had been Shonen Knife, it would have been perfect.
