If tongue is not speaking unto God then what does Paul means when he said in 1Cor. 14:2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God,? Is John Macarthur right in this respect.

Prophesying is best but does John M. allow for prophesying?

"When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a TONGUE or an interpretation. ALL of these MUST be done for the strengthening of the church. If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret."1 Cor.14:26

I believe the answer to this was found in part 3 or 4 of these videos. JM stated "prophesying" was translated to mean "speaking the Word of God," which is what he and all pastors do when they preach.

Here's an example of Biblical prophesying-

"You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish."

He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he PROPHESIED that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation,.."John 11:50-1

As you can see, Caiaphas was not quoting Scripture.

what do you think prophesy IS or is FOR?

are not the Biblical prophesies for the most part about Christ and events leading up to either His birth, or His return? And how does this (visual) kind of behavior a-edify God, or b-inform anyone of God's promises and will?

The Bible is closed because ALL that God will reveal is revealed IN THE BIBLE and the lies of the false cults of the world all say they have a "new revelation" including Mormons, JW, Islam, and the UPCI.

I have been in many meetings where people speak in tongues. I've not seen the behavior shown here although I've heard of it.

True prophecy will not bring about a "new revelation" . In Acts 11:28, we read that Agabus prophesied correctly about a severe famine coming.

Throughout the OT we read there were both true and false prophets-seemed like there were often more false ones than true ones. The only way to know if a prophecy is true or false is wait and see if it comes to pass (or doesn't)

Thank you Lord for the truth. And thank you brother for postings these videos. My wife and i were in bondage 'cause of this "speaking in tongues" thing. Thank God for John MacArthur, the Lord uses him to preach the truth of His Word. Jesus is Lord. Fellow believers, there is no reason why we should be in bondage, search the Truth, and be free.

I have been praying for the Truth to be shown to me trying to keep an open and teachable spirit. Now my whole teaching by the Pentecostal church has been opened wide and I am finding a lot of wrong teaching there. I have found that we are to compared everything we are taught to the Word of God that way we are not mislead. I cry for those that are beguiled and mislead! The Word says we are to STUDY to show ourselves approved..

a BIG problem is that many study to find passages to manipulate and distort, misrepresent and misquote in order to support their own preferences and justifications for the kind of ridiculous behavior which looks more like demonic possession than anything else.

If you read the opposition you will see how well the bases are covered and the nonsense justified. and the big problem is that nothing that is already right and just ever needs to be justified.

I would agree I love the video's. John Is always a self edification type of guy. He is a great messenger bringing God's message. If the world was more like him ...like christ we would have a true church like in Acts 2:42-27

How did I like it so far? Well, JMA is one of my favorite preachers out there, so, of course I did like it very much.... I was recently confronted with the doctrine of speaking in tongues on a very subtle level, so I cannot wait to listen to the other parts. Thanks for sharing it!
