The Dukes inspire the desire to fire up your creativity. What a band, what an album...I remember the first time I heard it as a young man! I hope one day to duplicate the effort! Wahi'
I remember hearing the interview on the radio whilst driving back home from the west country when the album was released. I was smoking then ( :-)) and it was completely surreal driving along stoned with this and other tracks blaring out.
At least i think i remember it ..... in a passing hallucination.
I had my stereo stolen with this LP on the turntable in 1986. Framed the cover after that in honor of the missing disk. I am so tickled to see the entire video after all these years. I have often said that the 80's were made more bearable by following XTC. Loved their look back to the 60's- absolute genius.Thank you for sharing this.
@ventoefoglie You bet your sweet bippy, kid!! Psych is THEE MOST creative music there EVER was!!!! Sounds like you'd be interested in hearing, The Enpsychlopedia! It's a work in progress of nothing BUT really great psych. It's just shy of 19 CD's long, so far, but I suspect it'll be at least 125 by the time I'm done with it. I'm REALLY glad to find more people like you, these days. I'm SOOOO sick of all the heartless music of today!! Keep your psych flag waving proud!!
Thanks KPCMediaUK for posting this. Amazingly well done video. The debut album by Dukes of the Stratosphere was brilliant, definitely one of the best and most convincing psychedelic albums of all time.

@paisleybabee Thank you so much for your comment. Glad you have found the full video at long last. I posted it, because it was such a shame there were only just short clips on here. As I made the video with Andy and co, I thought everyone should be able to see the full version. Cheers, Nick
Neil Innes must have been proud. It takes a honest effort and a love of the genre to produce such satire that is not only amusing, but technically excellent. I like projects such as the Rutles and the Dukes for revisiting these classic forms of rock music. It not only gives an appreciation for the era of which it is influenced, but is good music production in its own right. Not just a mere ephemeral offering for the serious audiophile.
I'm trying to figure out why I have never seen this before. Ever.
Next time someone asks me what "Magical Mystery Tour" is like, I'll just point to that video and say "Like this, only longer and with more of Ringo's fat Aunt Jessie.
And people ACTUALLY like Lady Ga Ga,Brittney Spears,Katy Perry,etc....... dumb sheep!!! This music will live on LOOOOOOOOONG after they they find themselves on Has Been Lane.
How is it possible that I've had the Dukes' albums for 15 years and never knew official music vids existed? Perfect vid for the song, KPCMediaUK you just made my year!
Its amazing how XTC changed their style so much. Compare this song to their earlier songs Heatwave and Generals And Majors, Its a really huge difference and all the songs are great.
@lumpytwangage Yes. I think its important to take after The Beatles in this manner, I think its healthier for a mind to write different music than to stick to one style.
This is great - I've known this song for 25 years, but this is the first time I've seen the video. Hilarious!! Everyone's commenting on the very obvious Beatles thing going on here, but is it just me that thinks the chorus sounds very, very like Gilbert O'Sullivan? And there's nothing wrong with that.

I was 10 years old in 1967. I cannot tell you how much this sort of thing made an impression on me. Hopefully young people will still open their minds to the abstract and explore the possibilities of the universe.
This is fantastic. I remember seeing this before although it was an incomplete clip and I think it stopped after the horse fell over. That was before I grew to appreciate XTC and their alter egos as well.
These guys wish they were the Beatles. They are clearly trying ti emulate them. The lead singer is deliberately trying to mimic Paul McCartney's voice.
Actually, this song was intended as a tribute to the Beatles psychedelic period. In fact, the whole "25 O'Clock" album by The Dukes was intended as a tribute to the various psychedelic English bands of the late 60's - Pink Floyd, The Move, etc.
This was the aim, their other work sounds nothing like this. You should look up one of their more famous songs like 'Making Plans For Nigel' to see them in a different light.
I love trippy music and this is no exception. Very impressive stuff. The Beatles in their psychedelic heyday could not pull it off better than this. Wonder what the reaction that the remaining Beatles had to this.
there's an early 1920s experimental film they're clearly giving a nod to in the end with the backwards floating bowler hats. I wish I could remember the name. :)
This is incredible! I bought the original record back in 1985 purely because the cover sleeve was so mind-blowing, and the music inside was equally so. I had no idea that it was XTC.
But this is the first time I've seen the video and it's amazing -- totally the spirit of '67! Thanks for posting.
Just bloody brilliant all the way through! Nice resolution and sound too! It's nice Andy & Colin didn't get sued for plagiarism - it's a testament to the artfulness of their tributes to the 60s psych greats.
I really liked your video. Youtube can be a great asset for you. If you need any help getting your video exposed i use a site called Tubeviews . Net It has really done wonders for me, Keep in touch
